Felix Jeffrey "Jeff" Farrell (born February 28, 1937 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former American swimmer who was 1960 Olympic champion with both relays.

Farrell was a member of his age group's US selection when he was in high school. He became one of the world's best freestyle swimmers while studying at the University of Oklahoma and Yale University .

The five-time US champion at AAU championships won the 100 m freestyle in 56.3 seconds at the Pan American Games in 1959 . When he won the AAU championship in 1960, he came close to the world record of the Australian John Devitt with 54.8 seconds to two tenths of a second . One week before the US Olympic qualification (Trials) he had to undergo an operation on his appendix. With a bandaged scar, he entered the trials and qualified third over 100 m and fourth over 200 m for the Olympic Games. For a single start, however, he should have been in the top two.

At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, Farrell was back in shape and swam the final stretch in both the 4 × 200 m freestyle relay and the 4 × 100 m relay relay . In both seasons he struck in world record time.

After graduating from Yale University in 1963, he spent twenty years swimming in various countries as a swim coach. He returned to the United States in the 1980s. After undercutting 25 US records in his active time, including the world records with the relays, he was able to increase this mark as a senior swimmer, where he regularly beat US and world records in various age groups.

In 1968 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
