John Parrott / Achievements
This list shows the sporting achievements of snooker player John Parrott . Parrott was a professional player from 1983 to 2010 and won a total of 17 tournaments and was in the finals of 22 others. His most important successes include victories at the Snooker World Championship and at the UK Championship . However , he was denied winning the Masters , the third triple crown tournament .
Born in Liverpool in 1964, Parrott won several amateur tournaments in the early 1980s and reached the final of the English Amateur Championship in 1983 . In the same year he became a professional player and was able to celebrate his first successes in the late 1980s. In 1989 he won his first ranking tournament, the European Open . In the same year he lost in the final of the Snooker World Championship against Steve Davis with a score of 3:18, the highest defeat in the final in tournament history. Two years later Parrott was able to win the title and also win the UK Championship . 1989, 1990 and 1992 he reached the final of the Masters , 1992 again the final of the UK Championship.
In the following years, Parrott was able to win other professional tournaments and thus occupied second place in the world rankings over a period of three seasons . In March 1998 he reached the Thailand Masters , which he lost 6: 9 to Stephen Hendry , the last time the final of a ranking tournament. Two years later he won the Nations Cup with the English team . In the following years Parrott could not keep his top positions in the world rankings and ended his professional career after the 2009/10 season . Not long afterwards he began commenting on snooker television broadcasts. In 2015 he was inducted into the Snooker Hall of Fame .
