Local transport in Lübeck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The transport in Lübeck consists of the bus lines of the city traffic Lübeck and Lübeck-Travemünder public transport company , the regional bus of car power , Dahmetal and Grevesmühlener bus operations as well as the rail regional transport the Deutsche Bahn on the urban area of the city of Lübeck .

Historical

Lübeck was first connected to the railway network in 1851 with the Lübeck – Lüneburg line. The railway lines to Hamburg , Bad Kleinen and Travemünde followed by 1882 . These railway lines were the first to connect some of the numerous rural districts of Lübeck to local transport. However, there can be no talk of city traffic in the true sense of the word, because in the actual core city there was only one way to access rail traffic with the main train station . This meant that it was only possible to reach the city center by train from districts far outside such as Niendorf or Travemünde .

Kohlmarkt with tram around 1908

The history of the actual Lübeck city traffic begins with the opening of the horse tram on April 30, 1881. In 1894 the horse tram routes were electrified and from then on an electric tram was operated. The first bus line in Lübeck's city area was established in 1924 between Lübeck and the (then) Lübeck exclave Nusse . Other lines soon followed, for example between the tram terminus Kücknitz and Travemünde, from Lübeck to Ahrensbök , to Utecht or the airbus , a feeder line that ran in the 1920s from Lübeck main station to the then airport on the Priwall. From 1935 buses were also used for the first time in city traffic. With their introduction, they displaced a tram route for the first time: They replaced the tram in the Breite Straße. From then on, the city bus network was continuously expanded at the expense of the tram. After a brief "bloom" during the war and in the immediate post-war period (the existing buses were sometimes used differently, so some tram routes were reactivated) the tram network shrank more and more, until finally a tram through on November 15, 1959 Lübeck rolled.

Hence, the Lübeck local transport consisted from now on of the buses of the Lübeck-Travemünder Verkehrsgesellschaft (LVG, between Lübeck and Travemünde) and the Stadtwerke Lübeck. A special feature in Lübeck was the small border traffic , as part of which there was a line connection of the Lübeck municipal utilities across the inner-German border from 1973 . Local transport in Lübeck experienced a decisive turning point with the establishment of the Lübeck tariff community (TGL) in 1992. This was the first time there was a tariff community between the municipal utilities and the LVG, until then it was not possible to travel from Travemünde (which was only served by the LVG) with one To travel beyond the city center. In 1993, DB joined TGL with the Lübeck Hbf - Travemünde Strand line. The TGL existed until 2011 and was then integrated into the Schleswig-Holstein tariff .

Rail transport

Lübeck Central Station

Lübeck has been reached by rail since 1851. From Lübeck there are today railway lines in all directions. The largest and most important train station is the Hauptbahnhof , which is also served by ICs and ICEs . The railways play a not inconsiderable role in Lübeck's city and suburban traffic. The RB 86 line from Lübeck Hauptbahnhof to Travemünde runs exclusively in Lübeck's urban area. The RE83 line has stopped at Lübeck Airport since 2007 and in the university district since 2013, which guarantees quick access to the university and the technical college . In addition, the RE4 from Lübeck to Bad Kleinen stops in the Sankt Jürgen district.

In 2020 Lübeck will be served by the following lines:

Bus transport

ZOB at the main station

The Lübeck city area is covered by the bus network of SL and LVG . There are also some regional bus routes that connect the city with the surrounding area. The 8720 bus line occupies a special position, although it is purely a regional bus line, but at the same time serves the Kronsforde district, which is the only district not connected to the city bus network.

The central hub at which most city and regional bus routes in Lübeck stop is the ZOB at the main train station.

City buses

In Lübeck city buses operate on 16 lines of Stadtverkehr Lübeck (SL) and on 8 lines of LVG . Some lines leave the urban area and serve the neighboring communities of Stockelsdorf , Bad Schwartau , Sereetz , Warnsdorf and Herrnburg . Line 18 is the only line that does not touch the Lübeck city area, it only runs in Bad Schwartau. In a common numbering scheme, the lines of the SL bear the numbers 1 to 29 (currently only assigned up to 21), those of the LVG bear the numbers 30 to 40. The following lines operate in 2016:

Regular taxi

Line taxi (in Hellenthal ): This form of operation is also used in Lübeck

Some lines in Lübeck operate on less frequented sections as a line taxi, i. That is, a large-capacity taxi is used instead of a bus. This is partly criticized as in some cases the taxis were full and could not take waiting passengers. Line 35 is the only scheduled taxi that operates on the Teutendorfer Weg - Teutendorf section as a collective call taxi (ASTi) only after prior notification.

The line taxi was first introduced in 2006 on what was then Line 12 between Schlutup Markt and Selmsdorf . To this day, line 12 runs outside school traffic as a regular taxi, but now between Gothmund Normannenweg and Selmsdorf An der Trave , the section into the center of Selmsdorf is no longer served by Lübeck city traffic. Following the example of line 12, Bad Schwartau city line 18 became a regular taxi in 2007, after a major line network reform in 2012, line 1 between Bad Schwartau and Groß Parin followed on weekends. The latest line taxi connection is the 35th. After this was extended to Warnsdorf in 2014 , the operation of the former route to Travemünde-Teutendorf was switched to ASTis .

Regional buses

Lübeck is also served by some regional bus routes from all over the surrounding area, with some of these trips not going to the city center, but ending at a transfer stop for city traffic in a suburb.

“LÜMO” - on-demand ridepooling offer

In the off- peak times of low demand, the SL in Lübeck has been operating an on-demand ridepooling offer since 2018 . The electric vehicles used started as a pure night shuttle and currently run every Friday, Saturday and before public holidays from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Ticket holders (subscription customers, monthly tickets, semester tickets, etc.) only pay a convenience surcharge for use. The shuttles run as a door-to-door service, i.e. a fixed route schedule and without stops.

Ferries

Passenger ferry Priwall IV

In addition to the bus routes, the SL also operates two ferry connections from Travemünde to the Priwall peninsula. The passenger ferry only runs from May to September, while the car ferry operates all year round. The ferries are not integrated into the regular city bus tariff, so a SL season ticket does not entitle you to use the ferry. A ferry surcharge is also due for passengers on line 38 who use the ferry on their way from Gneversdorfer Weg to Priwall.

car sharing

In Lübeck there is a well-developed car sharing offer with Stattauto HL . In the Lübeck region there are over 140 cars at locations in Lübeck, Stockelsdorf and Bad Schwartau. Even if Stattauto HL and Stadtverkehr Lübeck are completely independent companies, they cooperate with each other. In order to be attractive as a supplement to the public transport offer, Stattauto HL grants subscription customers of urban transport a price reduction.

Rates

Lübeck is within the scope of the Schleswig-Holstein tariff (SHT) . All city bus routes, all regional bus routes leading into the Schleswig-Holstein region and the regional trains of the DB are integrated in this transport association. Far-reaching transitional tariffs are offered to the HVV.

The NAHBUS Nordwestmecklenburg GmbH bus routes to Mecklenburg are integrated in the Verkehrsverbund Verkehrsgemeinschaft Westmecklenburg , but there is no collective bargaining agreement with the buses of the SL and LVG or Autokraft.

Planning

There were demands to introduce a regional S-Bahn system in Lübeck with lines to Travemünde, Neustadt, Eutin and Ratzeburg. Instead, the state-owned company NAH.SH plans to split the fast regional express trains from Hamburg from December 2022 at Lübeck Central Station and continue to Travemünde and Neustadt in Holstein without changing trains .

A new stop is also to be built in Moisling on the railway line to Hamburg.
