Wohlde ( Danish : Volde ) is a municipality in the Schleswig-Flensburg district in Schleswig-Holstein .

geography

Wohlde is located in the Stapelholm landscape on an elongated and heavily forested Geest island in the boggy Eider-Treene-Sorge lowland .

history

The place, which used to be called "in de Wold" (= in the forest), was first mentioned in 1426.

The Holmer Schanze, which is part of the Gottorf fortifications, is located in the municipality .

The largely preserved forest in the municipal area is represented in the coat of arms by the three trees. The location of the place at the height of the Geestinsel, which is significant in terms of settlement history, is indicated by the staggered arrangement of the trees. In the times before the water balance was controlled by dike and drainage, in Stapelholm settlements could only be established on the Geest islands, called Holme. The two rivers Treene and Sorge , whose lowlands extend to the foot of these holms, are indicated by two silver wave beams.

Economy and Infrastructure

The community is mainly structured agriculturally.

The Schleswig - Friedrichstadt line of the Schleswig District Railway, opened in 1905, ran through Wohlde . However, passenger traffic on the Wohlde – Friedrichstadt section was stopped as early as 1934. From 1942, this section of the route was dismantled after freight traffic had also come to a standstill. From 1950 the Hollingstedt - Dbodstedt - Wohlde section was also dismantled.

Today weekdays operates the bus line 1,512 transport companies Schleswig-Flensburg route and connects Wohlde with the Schleswig station on the railway line Flensburg-Neumünster (- Hamburg ) and the railway station Friedrichstadt at the Marschbahn Westerland - Elmshorn (- Hamburg).
