Alice Hoogstad (born 13 October 1957) is a Dutch illustrator and writer of children's literature.

Biography

Hoogstad studied graphics and painting at the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam. She lives and workes at Bergen in North Holland. [1] She started illustrating children’s books in 1987 and has as of 2023 illustrated over 200 books.[2][1] She illustrated books of among others Guus Kuijer, Sjoerd Kuyper and Tjibbe Veldkamp. She wrote and illustrated her first own book in 2005 entitled “Monsters”.[1] With this book she won the Dutch annual prizes for the children's book with the best illustrations the Silver Brush [nl][3] and Gouden Griffel.[4][5]

For the 2022 book “De nachtlantaarns van meneer Makkelie” she made fourteen illustration. Thirteen known children’s book writers including [[Paul van Loon], Sjoerd Kuyper, Dolf Verroen, Bette Westera, Annet Schaap and Jan Paul Schutten wrote stories about these illustrations.[6][7] An exposition about her works is held at Museum Kranenburgh [nl] from 1 October 2023 to 10 March 2024.[1][2]
