The club was formed in 1997 after the demise of Goole Town, and play their home games at the ageing Victoria Pleasure Grounds. Plans to upgrade the VPG to Conference standards are being put together at the moment.

On the field, they became champions of the Northern Counties East League in 2005 and are currently playing in the Northern Premier League Division One

Their best performance in the FA Cup was reaching the 2nd Qualifying Round on two occasions, most recently being season 2006/07 after beating Bradford Park Avenue (5-3) and Spennymoor Town (4-1) they lost out to Fleetwood Town (2-4).

Goole's best season in the FA Vase was getting to the 4th Round before losing out to Bemerton Heath Harlequins 0-1 in front of 592 supporters.

Goole's top attendance in any game since formation was against a Leeds United side in 1999, when 976 turned up to cheer them on Leeds won the game 5-3.

At the start of 2006/07, Goole made a major signing in Chris Tate who had been playing in Sweden last season after being released from Leyton Orient. Other big-name signings since formation are:-

    • Andy Saville
      ANDY PARTON
      Carl Fothergill
      Clint Marcelle
      Leigh Jenkinson
      Andy Flounders
  • The team's colours are strongly reminiscent of Arsenal's traditional kit of red shirts and white sleeves, with white shorts and socks. June 2006 saw the club announce that they had changed their name to Goole Town. However, and embarrassingly for those associated with the club, just two months later the West Riding Football Association rejected the name change and the club had to perform a very public u-turn and revert to Goole AFC. It is expected that Goole AFC will revert to the GOOLE TOWN name for the start of the 2007/8 season. The 2006/7 season has been a rollercoaster so far but the club enjoy 12th place at present, with an impressive away win at Gresley 4-1, plus impressive wins away at Cammell Laird 3-2 and at home to Colwyn Bay 4-0. The club have managed to attract Andy Parton to the club who has repaid the club with 19 goals with the help of Duncan Bray 14 goals Goole AFC have one of the most potent strike forces in the Unibond Division One.
