Monaco (or Montecarlo) is a small state in Western Europe, an enclave in the territory of France bordering the Mediterranean Sea.

It is a principality, ruled by the Princes of Monaco of the Grimaldi House since 1297.

Its fame is mainly due to its special tax system (once a tax-heaven), the casino, the Formula One Grand Prix.

Monaco became of international notoriety in the 1950s when the famous actress Grace Kelly married the current prince Ranieri.
