Dan Abrams (born May 20, 1966) is the host of Verdict with Dan Abrams Weekdays at 9pm ET on MSNBC and chief legal correspondent for NBC News.
Abrams hosted The Abrams Report until he accepted a managerial position at MSNBC.[1] Abrams held the position of General Manager of the MSNBC corporation from June 2006 until October 2007. He stated that the motivation behind his departure was to concentrate on his 9pm show "Live With Dan Abrams". "As a manager, you are constantly putting out fires. Did I love that part of the job? No." He has since continued his legal reporting on MSNBC.[2]
Before joining MSNBC, Abrams worked as a reporter for Court TV where he covered pivotal trials including the OJ Simpson case, International War Crimes Tribunal from The Netherlands, and the assisted-suicide trials of Dr. Kevorkian from Michigan. Abrams' first job, however, was working as an intern for the President of the Manhattan Bureau.[3]
Education
Abrams graduated from Riverdale Country School in 1984 and from Duke University with a degree in Political Science in 1988. While at Duke, he anchored newscasts on local channel Cable 13. He went on to graduate from law school at Columbia University in 1992.
Accomplishments
Abrams has also published articles in the New York Times, USA Today magazine, The American Lawyer, and the Yale Law and Policy Review. On June 12, 2006, He was named General Manager of MSNBC, following Rick Kaplan.[4]
Family
Abrams' father is Floyd Abrams, a First Amendment attorney and his mother is Efrat Abrams. Abrams is Jewish and was born in Manhattan.
Personal
He dated actress Elisabeth Röhm from 2003 to 2005. The two were briefly engaged. In 2003, he was diagnosed with and treated for testicular cancer[5] avoiding chemotherapy through a series of surgeries.[6] In 2007, he began dating British actress Jaime Murray known for her roles in Hustle and Dexter.[7] He is a vegetarian.[8] Abrams also owns an extensive wine collection, he is said to house over 400 bottles in his personal cellar.
