John Masius (born July 30, 1950; Scarsdale, New York) is an American writer and producer of television series, credited for creating the series Touched by an Angel (1994-2003), Providence (1999-2002) and HawthoRNe (2009-present).

Career

His credits include Hawthorne, Touched by an Angel, Providence and Dead Like Me.

"Time Heals...centers on Christina Hawthorne (Jada Pinkett Smith), a strong but caring director of nursing at Charlotte Mercy Hospital in North Carolina, a single mother who always puts the pain of others first.

In addition to starring, Jada Pinkett Smith will executive produce "Hawthorne" with Masius and Jamie Tarses. Sony TV is producing in association with Jada Pinkett Smith's 100% Woman. As a procedural with a strong female character at the center played by an A-list actress, Hawthorne fits nicely with TNT's crime dramas The Closer, starring Kyra Sedgwick, and Saving Grace, starring Holly Hunter.

Awards and nominations

Masius has won two Emmy Awards for his work as a writer on the drama St. Elsewhere.

Personal

Masius married actress Ellen Bry, who was a series regular on St. Elsewhere. They divorced in 1999. They have three children named Hannah, Max, and Sam. Sam and Max both have autism.
