Andy Knowles (born Andrew John Knowles, 22 June 1982, in Bolton, Greater Manchester, England) is an artist, director, producer and musician.
Knowles started his drumming career with Skuta, and then in 2003 formed the cult group I Love Lucy out of the Glaswegian Art rock scene. Touring as drum tech with Glaswegian band Franz Ferdinand, Knowles met Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger of the New York band The Fiery Furnaces and was invited to join the group. After extensive touring and recording drums on the album Bitter Tea, Knowles left the band and has since rejoined Franz Ferdinand as a live drummer/keyboard player. Knowles is currently not playing with Franz Ferdinand at present, thus working on other projects in the meantime.
Andrew Knowles is a graduate of the Glasgow School of Art and continues to work extensively with artists David Shrigley and Martin Creed. He also played a minor role in the film Morvern Callar in 2002 and performed for a few live shows with The Cribs as a keyboardist.
Andy has also played drums for the beatboxer Killa Kela and more recently for Johnny Marr's band The Healers in 2011. He and Nick McCarthy from the band Franz Ferdinand work as a music production team called The Nice Nice Boys. He's directed music videos "Bullet" by Franz Ferdinand, "Leather Jacket Love Song" & "Glitters Like Gold" by The Cribs, "Miss You" by Clinic, "Turn it on" by Peaches & also starred in "I Won't Come Back" by Box Codax. Knowles recently filmed a short documentary about Franz Ferdinand called "Come Home, Practically All, is nearly Forgiven”
