Template:Infobox Internet celebrity Smosh is a video-creating duo that has established fame on YouTube that consists of friends Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox. As of August 2007, Smosh is the most subscribed channel of all time on YouTube, with over 156,000 subscribers, 54,000 more than second place.[1] Smosh's videos have been viewed by millions of people and have appeared on mainstream television. Padilla and Hecox both attend American River College and live in Carmichael, California, a city near Sacramento.

Smosh.com

Smosh.com began in mid-2002 as a free forum for a group of high school friends in Carmichael, California. The forum now has over 80,000 members. As an extra for smosh.com members, extra videos can be viewed, showing off bloopers and commentary from Smosh. The website also offers high-quality versions of the videos. Anthony used to flash videos made by him on the Smosh website, until September 2006 where smosh.com collapsed from a hard drive failure causing all acounts to be deleted along with the flash videos.

Video distribution

Smosh releases their videos on YouTube as well as their own website, smosh.com. (In November 2006 until March 2007, Smosh's videos were "powered by livevideo.com". During that period, Smosh was on a contract to release two videos per month. Sixteen Smosh videos are on livevideo.com.)

Removed videos

Ian and Anthony have removed videos from either the Smosh website and YouTube account for various reasons.

  • "The California Stereotype Experiment"cannot be found on smosh.com, but it is still on youtube.
  • "The Evil Chain Letter"was one of Smosh's first videos. It made fun of internet chain letters. The video can still be found on youtube from other users.
  • "Garret's Blog" was a video that mocked video bloggers. It is no longer on smosh.com or youtube.
  • "I-Dawg announcement 'bout YT Awards" was a video released by Smosh to make people aware that they were nominees for the YouTube awards and to tell the viewer to vote for them. The video was only online for about a week, and was removed after voting was closed and Smosh had won.
  • "Pokémon Theme" is Smosh's most famous video. In June 2007, the video was removed due to a copyright claim by the Japanese company Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd.. The video received 24,732,537 views before its removal.[2] The video can be found on smosh.com.

IanH

Smosh's alternate account, IanH, contains videos of what Anthony and Ian do in their spare time and "submit side projects and other content not deemed worthy for the masses"[3]. Their most watched video is the original video, "A Day in the Life of Smosh", with 450,000 views as of August 2007. It is also the #62 most subscribed channel on youtube with over 16,000 subscribers. This account includes a two part blog of Los Angeles, California, where they filmed their award winning Smosh short, "Stranded".
