David Ling

David Ling (born January 9, 1975 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a professional ice hockey player who currently plays for Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League. July 9, 2007 GM John Ferguson Jr. announced a one year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He played 93 games in his NHL career, mostly for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Ling as a junior player played for the Kingston Frontenacs, where he recorded 135 points in 1994-95, winning the Red Tilson Trophy as the MVP for the Ontario Hockey League. Ling's # 17 was retired by the Frontenacs in a ceremony on September 21, 2007 [1].

Ling grew up in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. His first competitive hockey came with the Charlottetown Abbies, of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, at age 15, where he scored an incredible 75 points in just 30 games. His brother, Jamie, was also a professional hockey player. Jamie spent the majority of his career between the East Coast Hockey League & the International Hockey League, and holds the 9th spot in all-time assists in an ECHL career.

In 2005-2006 season he played for HC Spartak Moscow and in 2006-2007 season he played for HC Dynamo Moscow in Russian Super League.

For the 2007-2008 season, Ling is playing with the Maple Leafs' farm club, the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

As of November 2, 2007 Ling leads his team in scoring, and has scored at least one point in each game. He is currently third in points in the American Hockey League.
