Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a 1995 video game based on the Power Rangers film of the same name. It was released for SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy, and Sega Game Gear. It was released around the same time as the the movie itself, at the peak of Power Rangers popularity.

SNES version

The first level in the SNES version of the game.

The SNES version of the game does not follow the plot of the film though the Ninja Megazord does appear at the end of the game. Other than Ivan Ooze all the enemies in the game are either taken from the second season of the show or made up. The game is a side-scrolling action game. All six Power Rangers are included: Adam, Kimberly, Billy, Aisha, Rocky, and Tommy. They each have signature abilities and moves. Unlike the previous game, the player doesn't morph from human to Ranger halfway through the level but instead morphs once a "Thunder Meter" is filled. This happens by picking up ThunderBolts that are dropped by destroyed enemies. If the meter if half-filled while unmorphed the player can unleash a special attack. If the meter is filled while morphed the player can use a weapon or unleash an even more powerful attack. The player can jump from the foreground to the background by a press of a button. There is a multiplayer co-op mode which allows two players to play.

Bosses

  • Stage-1 Mirror Maniac
  • Stage-2 Cannon Top
  • Stage-3 Skelerena
  • Stage-4 Magnet Brain
  • Stage-5 Silver Horns
  • Stage-6 Main Frame
  • Stage-7 Ivan Ooze

Genesis version

First level from the Sega Genesis version of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie.

The first two levels and final level of the Genesis version focuses on the movie, then the third, fourth, and fifth levels focus on the episodes, "White Light", "A Ninja Encounter", and "The Power Transfer" from the second season of the television series. Its gameplay is similar to other games such as Final Fight or Double Dragon. The game has Zord battles and the Rangers start off morphed. The game has a 2 player coop mode. Recently 5 prototype versions of this game were released onto the internet.

Game Boy version

Other than the Rangers' ninja costumes and the bosses, the Game Boy version has nothing to do with the movie. You fight the Putties from the show in the game. The Yellow, Black, Pink Rangers in the game are faster and can jump higher but are weaker. The Blue, Red, White Rangers are stronger but slower and can't jump as high.

The Game Boy version contains similar gameplay to the SNES version, though it is a completely different game. The morphing meter is retained but there are no unmorphed or weapon attacks. Unlike the SNES version, the Game Boy version has a password system instead of continues, and the 2-player simultaneous gameplay isn't featured. You also can't jump from the foreground to the background.

Game Gear version

The plot of the Game Gear version is an adaptation of two episodes of the television series, followed by an adaptation of the movie plot. This game does not feature the "Thunder Meter" as characters begin each level as Power Rangers/Zords and it also does not feature the two-layered levels. The game plays a bit like a fighting game, the levels are small and more like arenas in a fighting game than the full levels in a scrolling beat-em-up. In the single player story mode you usually have to defeat multiple weak enemies before fighting your main opponent. Just like the previous game, the game also has a VS mode and a 2 player link mode. Recently a prototype version of this game was released onto the internet.
