Series one: 2006

Three girls, Cleo Sertori, Emma Gilbert and Rikki Chadwick, accidentally find themselves on Mako Island where they are tranformed into mermaids by the full moon in a pool of water under a volcano. They discover their amazing powers over water - Cleo can control the shape and volume of water, Emma can freeze it, and Rikki can boil it. Lewis McCartney, a friend of the girls, helps them avoid being exposed. The season is mainly about the girls' learning to control their powers well, learning about love, and dealing with everyday problems, such as pesky siblings. In the final episode of the season, Rikki's boyfriend, Zane, helps to capture the mermaids without realizing one of them is his girlfriend. When he realizes what he's done, Zane works with Lewis to release the girls, who trick the scientists into believing they've given up their powers to the lunar eclipse while they have actually only gone for twelve hours.
