Fredrik August Dahlgren (September 20, 1816 - February 16, 1895) was a Swedish writer, playwright and songwriter.

Dahlgren was born in the Nordmark parish of Värmland and went to school at Tingvallagymnasiet in Karlstad. He was the son of Barthold Dahlgren and Anna Carolina Svensson, his children were named Erik Wilhelm Dahlgren and Lotten Dahlgren.

Dahlgren is primarily known as the author of the well-known folk song Jänta och jag (the gal and I) and the comedy drama Wermlänningarne (The Vermlendians) (1846). He was a member of the Swedish Academy (1871 - 1895), where he occupied seat 6.
