History

The Codona family originally moved to Scotland from Italy early on in the 19th century. The family were described as a circus family who went from place to place in Scotland as entertainers. In the early 1900's One group of the Codona family left Glasgow to move to the United States of America. After this, they then moved to Mexico and from there formed the world famous trapeze act "The Flying Codonas", International Stars and featuring in the film Varieté (1925).[1][2]

The creation of Cinematograph, allowed the members of the family whom remained in Scotland to open a "Travelling picture show". This idea eventually led to the family opening cinema halls across the East of Scotland. In the early 1900s, stream driven rides began to be created and the family owned a variety of these, with which they toured Scotland. These popular rides consisted of The Galloping Horses, The Dragons, The Mont Blanc, The Switch Back, The Cake Walk, The Jungle Ride, Auto Scooters and The Wall of Death.
