Brent Woods

Brent Woods (1855 – March 31, 1906) was a Buffalo Soldier in the United States Army and a recipient of America's highest military decoration—the Medal of Honor—for his actions in the Indian Wars of the western United States.

Biography

Woods joined the Army in Louisville, Kentucky, and by August 19 1881 was serving as a Sergeant in Company B of the 9th Cavalry Regiment. On that day, he participated in an engagement in New Mexico where he "[s]aved the lives of his comrades and citizens of the detachment." Thirteen years later, on July 12 1894, Sergeant Woods was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the engagement.

Woods died at age 50 or 51 and was buried in Mill Springs National Cemetery, Nancy, Kentucky. His grave can be found in section A, grave 930.
