Selected picture
Hi there, just to let you know that an image you uploaded has been chosen as a selected picture over at the Amusement Parks Portal! If you have any similar images that you feel would also be appropriate then feel free to suggest it on the nomination page. Many thanks, Seaserpent85 19:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Photo Galleries
Hey, I've noticed you have added a lot of images the past couple of days to roller coaster pages. I feel that the pages with the "Galleries" are a bit much to have within the article and should be moved to the bottom in its own section. Otherwise images within an article should go along with the text being discussed. You may also want to look into creating pages on Wikimedia Commons and linking to that page. Here is some of the research I found: Photo Galleries Again, I have no problem with the galleries themselves besides the placement (it can become a bit much), but I feel other editors who are not familiar with roller coasters may come in and delete them.

Issue II - January 2008 Got any suggestions? - Add them here |
Welcome!
Welcome to the second WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! December has seen some real progress in terms of bringing up the quality of roller coaster related articles on Wikipedia. Assessment and tagging of articles is almost completely done and efforts are now being focussed on quality and improving articles. This month also sees the start of the new B-class drive, a brilliant way to get involved with the WikiProject and achieve something together. |
Articles and Assessment
As far as assessment goes, the backlog from last month was cleared almost immediately after the last newsletter went out, almost single-handedly by Alton! A progress chart can be seen on the assessment page that shows we are slowly dragging up the quality of the articles covered by the WikiProject.
The following articles reached B-class quality during December: |
Amusement Parks Portal
The Amusement Parks Portal has been significantly expanded over the past month and is currently a candidate for featured portal. Any suggestions for featured articles and pictures can be put forward on their respective sections. |
Membership News
During December the WikiProject was joined by 2 new members, bringing the total number up to 49 after 2 inactive users were removed from the member list. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments. |
B-class Drive
This month's B-class Drive: Arrow Dynamics
So here is the first article improvement drive for the WikiProject, Arrow Dynamics. There isn't a huge amount that needs doing apart from the addition of references, formatting and a copyedit. For any outstanding contributions there are barnstars available which can be given to and by anyone! Any suggestions for February's B-class Drive can be brought up on the talk page, so if there's a particular article you feel could benefit from more input then feel free to suggest it. |
...and finally...
Once again, thanks for reading! As always suggestions and offers of help are much appreciated. |

Welcome!
Welcome to the WikiProject Roller Coasters Newsletter! January has seen a number of milestones being passed in the WikiProject. We've achieved our first good article, brought a portal up to featured portal status and successfully collaborated together on the first Article Improvement Drive, amongst other achievements. Let's carry on with the good work and continue bringing up the standard of all articles covered by the WikiProject! |
Articles and Assessment
We hit a milestone in January with our first GA-class article, Speed Monster! This shows just how easy it is improve articles by including references and increasing readability. Collaboration has got off to a good start, with the first chosen article, Arrow Dynamics, improving enough to reach B-class. The following articles reached GA-class or B-class quality during January: |
Amusement Parks Portal
The Amusement Parks Portal reached featured portal status during January! You can still nominate articles for the selected content sections on the portal. |
Membership News
During January the WikiProject was joined by 6 new members, bringing the total number up to 55. A very warm welcome to Etf, CPGACoast, RickMarkestein, Emackert, Onewayroad2home and Suttna08. The to do list continues to serve as a place for flagging up articles in need of attention, review or comments.
A discussion is taking place regarding the best way to organise information about roller coaster records and the history of roller coasters. All members' opinions are welcomed; the discussion can be found here.

Article Improvement Drive
This month's Article Improvement Drive: Roller coaster
Why not start at the top?! The main article is already at B class and, with a little help, isn't too far away from GA class. Please see the collaboration page for further information. Any suggestions for March's Article Improvement Drive can be brought up on the talk page, so if there's a particular article you feel could benefit from more input then feel free to suggest it. |

Sources of roller coaster data
I'd normally ask the head of the roller coaster wikiproject this, but he's on a long wikibreak. I've seen you around quite a bit, so maybe you'll have some insight on my question.
Currently, we use RCDB as a reliable source for roller coaster data. But what if a coaster's data on RCDB doesn't match up with its data on the park's official website? I've seen this happen in several cases. Which should be used as a more reliable source?
Perhaps the park that owns the coaster would know best -- then again, their website might be more concerned with marketing and "round numbers" than accuracy.
I know RCDB is concerned with accuracy, but there are probably still mistakes if they've acquired numbers second-hand: their site says, "The rcdb's data was compiled from a plethora of sources: Usenet, Internet, amusement parks, roller coaster manufacturers and enthusiasts."
Is there a consensus on this? Please reply on my talk page. I've posed the same question to a few other active editors of coaster articles, so I can get several people's input and not just one.
Thanks!

Proposed deletion of Carolina Cyclone
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Carolina Cyclone, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Top gun logo.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Top gun logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:51, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:EPMap.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:EPMap.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
