The Journal of Medicinal Chemistry is a peer-reviewed medical journal covering research in medicinal chemistry. It is published by the American Chemical Society. It was established in 1959 as the Journal of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry and obtained its current name in 1963.[1] The editors-in-chief are Gunda I. Georg (University of Minnesota) and Shaomeng Wang (University of Michigan). They succeeded Philip S. Portoghese (University of Minnesota) in 2012. Portoghese had served as editor-in-chief from 1972-2011.[1] According to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2011 impact factor of 5.248, ranking it third out of 59 journals in the category "Chemistry, Medicinal".[2]
