'''Homecoming''', welcoming back of former residents and alumni, is a tradition in many [[university|universities]], [[college]]s and [[high school]]s in North America. It usually includes activities for students and alumni, such as sports and culture events and a parade through the streets of the city or town.

Hi, could you ask TinucherianBot nicely to create categories for [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Biota of Great Britain and Ireland]]. Cheers, [[User:Jackhynes|Jack]] ([[User talk:Jackhynes|talk]]) 16:41, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
==United States==
Homecoming is an annual tradition of the [[United States]]. People, towns, high schools and colleges come together, usually in late September or early October, to welcome back former residents and [[alumni]]. It is built around a central event, such as a [[banquet]] or a game of [[American football]], soccer, [[basketball]], or [[ice hockey]]. When celebrated by schools, the activities vary widely. However, they usually consist of a football game played on the school's home football field, activities for students and alumni, a [[parade]] featuring the school's [[marching band]] and sports teams, and the coronation of a Homecoming Queen (and at many schools, a Homecoming King). Related "Homecoming Dances" should always be boy ask girl style (the girl should not have to ask the guy ever).

===Origins===
Both the [[University of Missouri]]<ref>[http://www.columbiamissourian.com/stories/2006/10/20/traditions-beginnings-mysterious/ Columbia Missourian - Tradition's beginnings mysterious<!-- Bot generated title -->]</ref> and the [[University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign]]<ref>http://www.admin.uiuc.edu/homecoming/history.pdf</ref> lay claim to establishing the tradition of homecoming on college campuses. In 1909, [[Baylor University]] was the first university to hold an organized alumni event whose focus point was a varsity sports match; however, the event was an isolated event that wasn't replicated again at Baylor until six years later. As a result, Illinois and Missouri are generally given credit for establishing the annual tradition that has become known as homecoming. The University of Missouri has received the most recognition, as it was recognized by the [[NCAA]], [[Trivial Pursuit]] and [[Jeopardy]] as being the birthplace of the tradition.<ref>http://www.argosy.ca/view.php?aid=40677</ref><ref>http://www.active.com/football/Articles/The_History_of_Homecoming.htm</ref><ref>http://media.www.unewsonline.com/media/storage/paper953/news/2007/09/28/News/Homecoming.History.Is.Rooted.In.Alumni-3000239.shtml</ref>
Additionally, Missouri remains home to the largest student-run homecoming event in the United States and includes the largest blood drive on a college campus.<ref>http://columbiatribune.com/2007/Oct/20071016News011.asp</ref><ref>http://www.mizzou.com/homecoming/</ref><ref>http://www.americanredcrossblood.org/News/NewsReleases/NewsReleaseViewer/tabid/97/ArticleID/125/CBModuleId/428/Default.aspx</ref>

:::Thanks for that, [[User:Jackhynes|Jack]] ([[User talk:Jackhynes|talk]]) 11:44, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign credits two senior members of the class of 1910 with establishing the tradition of homecoming at Illinois. These two men were Clarence F. Williams and W. Elmer Ekblaw. According to recollections Williams in 1930, the idea came to the two men in 1910 while they were sitting on the steps of the [[YMCA]] discussing ways of contributing to their alma mater. The men's idea culminated in Illinois' first homecoming event on October 15, 1910. The event celebration centered around the football game against the [[University of Chicago]], and it also included various alumni reunions, initiations, and banquets.<ref>http://www.admin.uiuc.edu/homecoming/history.pdf</ref>

[[Image:Homecoming1911.jpg|right|330px|thumb|First Homecoming game at the University of Missouri in 1911]]
The history of the University of Missouri Homecoming can be traced back to 1891, when the [[Missouri Tigers]] first faced off against the [[Kansas Jayhawks]] in football in the first installment of the [[Border War (Kansas–Missouri rivalry)|Border War]], which is also the oldest college football rivalry west of the [[Mississippi River]]. The intense rivalry originally took place at neutral sites, usually in [[Kansas City, Missouri]], until a new conference regulation was announced that required intercollegiate football games to be played on collegiate campuses. To renew excitement in the rivalry, ensure adequate attendance at the new location, and celebrate the first meeting of the two teams on the Mizzou campus in [[Columbia, Missouri]], Mizzou Athletic Director Chester L. Brewer invited all alumni to "come home" for the game in 1911. Along with the football game, the celebration included a parade and spirit rally. The event was a success, with nearly 10,000 alumni coming home to take part in the celebration and watch the Tigers and Jayhawks play to a 3-3 tie. The Missouri homecoming model, with it's parade and spirit rally centered around a large football game is the model that has gone on to take hold at colleges and high schools across the United States.<ref>http://www.dailyemerald.com/home/index.cfm?event=displayArticlePrinterFriendly&uStory_id=3b6196ac-c8ed-4620-a9c9-439789ddd7cc</ref><ref>http://www.mizzou.com/homecoming/history.html</ref>

===Traditions===
====Homecoming queen and king====
The Homecoming Court usually consists of seniors. In high school, 17- or 18-year-old students in their final year are represented; in college, students who are completing their final year of study, usually between 21 and 23 years old.

Hey Praveen, Thanks for bringing this to my notice. For those who opted for just a link only content, I delivered this in the month of June 2008: <br>
Classmates traditionally nominate students who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to contribute to their school. Other times, students vote for the nominees. Once the Homecoming Court candidates are announced, the entire student body votes for the Queen and King (by [[secret ballot]]) or by some other means determined by the school.

<nowiki>==[[WP:INDIA]] {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}} Newsletter==
Local rules determine when the Homecoming Queen and King are crowned. Sometimes, the big announcement comes at a [[pep rally]] or school assembly one or more days before the game. Other schools crown their royalty at the Homecoming [[American football|football]] game or dance or Basketball game. Still, some other schools crown their King and Queen at a second assembly during Homecoming week called Coronation Assemblies. Some schools have the coronation after school in the evening for the public to see.

</nowiki>

Often, the previous year's Queen and King are invited back to crown their successors. If they are absent for whatever reason, someone else – usually, another previous Queen or King, a popular teacher, or other designated person – will perform those duties. Usually, the Queen is crowned first, followed by the King (for schools that have both kings and queens). The crowning method also varies by school.

I had used the <nowiki>{{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}</nowiki> , which shows the current month , I should have better substitued it {{tl|subst}}
Homecoming court members who are not crowned king or queen are often called escorts or royalty . They are often expected to participate in the week's activities as well. At some schools, a Homecoming Prince/Princess, Duke/Duchess etc. (often underclassmen nominated by their classmates) are crowned along with the King and Queen; sometimes, middle school and junior high students may partake in the high school activities.

Btw what is happening to the next issue? It has been a long time :) -- [[User:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000"> Tinu</em>''']] [[User talk:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000">Cherian </em>''']] - 07:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
====Parade====
Many Homecoming celebrations include a [[parade]]. Students often select the grand marshal based on his/her service and support to the school and/or community. The parade includes the school's [[marching band]] and different school organizations floats created by the classes and organizations and most of the sports get a chance to be in the parade and show off their fierceness! Every class prepares a float which corresponds with the Homecoming theme. In addition, the Homecoming Court takes part in the parade, often riding together in one or more convertibles as part of the parade. The [[parade]] is often part of a series of activities scheduled for that specific day, which can also include a [[pep rally]], [[bonfire]], [[snake dance]], and other activities for students and alumni.

::Okay, good that it is sorted out now. Oh well, just when I thought it was about time, a new month started. Usually Gppande is very prompt on this. Do you think we release these anyways after putting in some work? Maybe Gppande gets pinged about this. What say? [[User:Mspraveen|Mspraveen]] ([[User talk:Mspraveen|talk]]) 15:22, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
====Tailgate====
At most major colleges and universities, the football game and preceding [[tailgate party|tailgate]] are the most widely recognized and heavily attended events of the week. Alumni gather from all around the world to return to their Alma Mater and reconnect with one another and take part in the festivities. Students, alumni, businesses, and members of the community set up tents in parking lots, fields, and streets near the stadium to cook out, play games, socialize, and even enjoy live music in many instances. These celebrations often last straight through the game for those who do not have tickets but still come to take part in the socializing and excitement of the homecoming atmosphere. Most tents even include television or radio feeds of the game for those without tickets.

====Picnic====
== Thanks! ==
Sometimes during the school week, a picnic could occur. The picnic is very similar to the tailgate party, but it occurs after school or during the school's lunch period.

I appreciate your message! And like they say in the USA: vote early and vote often! :) [[User:Ecoleetage|Ecoleetage]] ([[User talk:Ecoleetage|talk]]) 12:19, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
====Dress-up days====
: Thanks for leaving a note back. Best wishes again -- [[User:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000"> Tinu</em>''']] [[User talk:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000">Cherian </em>''']] - 05:02, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Throughout the week, schools (particularly high schools) engage in special dress-up days, sometimes called "Spirit Week", where students are allowed to wear clothing suitable to the theme (e.g., [[toga]] day, [[nerd]] day, [[pirate]] day Rat Pack Day) leading to the homecoming. Students traditionally wear clothing with their school's name, or clothing and makeup of their school's colors on Friday.

== Nominations for the Military history WikiProject coordinator election ==
At many high schools, especially in the southern United States, homecoming dates exchange "mums" on Homecoming Friday, to wear to the game and the dance. These are very elaborate [[corsage]]s (for the girls) or [[Sleeve garter|garter]]s (for the boys, worn on the arm) that consist of a large flower (usually a [[chrysanthemum]]) surrounded by a ribbon ruffle. Long ribbons, decorations and trinkets are hung from the mum which indicate the students' date of birth, name, class, interests, and messages towards other people.

====Rallies====
Many schools hold a rally during Homecoming week, often one or more nights before the game. The events vary, but may include skits, games, introduction of the homecoming court (and coronation of the King and Queen if that is the school's tradition), and comments from the football players and/or coach about the upcoming game.

== WikiProject Films [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Outreach/August 2008 Newsletter|August 2008 Newsletter]] ==
At some schools, the Homecoming rally ends with a bonfire (in which old wood structures, the rival school's memorabilia and other items are burned in a controlled fire.) Many colleges and high schools no longer hold bonfires because of accidents that have occurred surrounding these events in the past. The most well known accident took place in 1999, when 12 students were killed and 27 others were injured at [[Texas A&M]] when a 40-foot tall pile of logs that had been assembled for a homecoming bonfire collapsed.<ref>http://thedartmouth.com/2006/10/13/news/safety/</ref>

====Homecoming dance====
The Homecoming Dance – usually the culminating event of the week (for high schools) – is a formal or in-formal event, either at the school or an off-campus location. The venue is decorated, and either a disc jockey or band is hired to play music. In many ways, it is a fall [[prom]]. Homecoming dances could be informal as well just like standard school dances. At high schools, the homecoming dances are sometimes held in the high school gymnasium. Many of the song that are heard at the dance are songs you can actually dance to, no matter what the theme is.

== WikiProject Films roll call and coordinator elections ==
Since most colleges are too large to facilitate a campus-wide dance, these events are usually handled instead by student organizations such as fraternities, sororities, and residential colleges. Because football and alumni events are the focal points of collegiate homecoming, dances often take place during a different week when schedules are more permitting, or not at all.

===Competitions===
While at the high school level, students generally compete by grade level in events such as the spirit days and parade floats, the competition at the collegiate level is mainly between Greek-letter organizations and, to a lesser degree, residence halls. At most larger schools, fraternities and sororities compete on parade floats, house decorations, skits, talent competitions, and even service events such as blood drives or food drives. Sometimes on coronation night, some schools have games that they play between classes. Such events include the pyramid, the 3 legged race, the pop chug, and tug of war.

== Have a nice day ==
===Smaller school homecomings===
While most schools schedule their Homecoming activities around [[American football|football]], smaller schools that do not field a football team or whose football program is weak plan the annual event at another time of the year. In these instances, [[basketball]] or [[ice hockey]] serves as the "big game" for students and [[alumni]]. Often in smaller towns with smaller populations, the parade is omitted.

Thanks for the best wishes. I have a feeling I'll need it. :) '''''[[User:Bibliomaniac15|<font color="black">bibliomaniac</font>]][[User talk:Bibliomaniac15|<font color="red">1</font>]][[Special:Contributions/Bibliomaniac15|<font color="blue">5</font>]]''''' 04:41, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
At schools without athletic programs, the centerpiece event is usually a [[banquet]], where [[alumni]] are recognized. This format is also used for alumni events of high schools that have either closed or consolidated with other high schools; the high school classes continue to meet and celebrate their years at their now-defunct [[alma mater]].

===Courtwarming===
== Jammu Kashmir ==
In some parts of the country, high school basketball has gained a homecoming celebration of its own. Often referred to as ''Winter Homecoming'' or ''Courtwarming'' (the latter is especially prominent in parts of Missouri), it usually includes rallies, dress-up days, special dinners, king and queen coronations, and other winter-friendly activities typically associated with football homecoming.

==Homecoming outside the United States==
===Canada===
Homecoming celebrations are uncommon at universities across Canada. The best-known and largest homecoming weekends are held by [[Queen's University]] and the [[University of Western Ontario]] each year. Canadian homecoming weekends are often centred around a football game but are also filled with events such as "pancake keggers" and parades. However, in Newfoundland and Labrador, communities have a "Come Home Year" where people who have moved away from their town come back from across Canada. In 2000, there was a provincial "Come Home Year", where many people came back to visit their various communities. Homecomings are not popular among Canadian highschools, and rare to find one that celebrates homecoming. Newmarket Highschool is the only school in Ontario that takes part in the event. The weekend before the Canadian Thanksgiving, all graduates and alumni come back and play drinking games with the students that are above the legal drinking age.[http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20050926/queensbrawl_reaction_20050926/20050926?hub=Canada]

The idea of homecoming was adopted by the Scottish government in their campaign to encourage Scots, or those with an affinity for Scotland, to return to the country.

Hello! I'll explain you everything what was happened. I uploaded the image from [http://www.bollywoodsargam.com/hollywood_celebrity_photos.php?poster=9183719-262244836-1-latest-The_Mummy_Returns_Movie_desktop_wallpaper_images_pictures.html this page] as a fair use. First, it did mislead me when I saw the text "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License" at the bottom of the page. Then, I realized that it was a fair use. The image having a source and a license, the only thing that was missing was a fair use rationale. At this step I didn't know what to do, but consulting Wikipedia help I found the template {{tl|Non-free fair use rationale}}. So I added. On the propose for the use of this image, I wrote that it was for illustrating the movie ''[[The Mummy Returns]]''. [[User:Yamla|Yamla]] said that this image didn't show anything about the movie, so nominating the image as for fair use rationale dispute. I did link the image in the article about the movie and articles of [[Patricia Velásquez]] and [[Arnold Vosloo]], appearing in this image. I may understood his opinion by removing the image of those biographical articles but I didn't understand why he removed it from the article ''[[The Mummy Returns]]''. So I undid his edits and for that I was claimed as a vandal and blocked for violating the rules. Now, I saw that in article section ''[[The Mummy Returns#Cast]]'' has an image similar with the image I uploaded and, by checking [[User:Yamla|Yamla]]'s contributions, I found the [[:Image:Kareena in K3G.jpg]] and the [[:Image:Kapoor JabWeMet.jpg]], which are movie screenshots, linked to the biographical article [[Kareena Kapoor]]. And thinking that I was blocked for using a fair use image on a biographical article and reverting removal edits. The uploader of those images wasn't block and you can see at [[:Image:Kareena in K3G.jpg]] that [[User:Yamla|Yamla]] reverted a vandalism edited of a copyrighted image for a biographical article, the reasons he used to block me at February 2008. It may passed awhile but seeing this I think that there wasn't a reason to block. Even I remember [[User:Yamla|Yamla]] saying that I was a copyright violator, even on Commons. I just want to clear my "name". Do you understand that? I hope that I had explain all things to you! Regards, [[User:Sdrtirs|Sdrtirs]] ([[User talk:Sdrtirs|talk]]) 14:29, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou for the Barnstar.........</br>Actually, I had started editing these 2 articles right from the beginning. I think the Image issue has been resolved after the non free use rationale. Featuring [[Mangalorean Catholics]] won't be easy. Although, I'll try to get it to GA status. In between I was also interested in [[Christianity in India]]. But Annons have destroyed the article. Thanks for pointing out. I had disabled autosave and was experimenting something on Regexp tester but didnt realise it actually saved it.
OK, anyways let me tell my issue is , I was able to add music=yes with advanced setting of 'Find and replace' for {{tl|WP India}} for banners in single line like <br>
{{tlx|WP India|2=class|3=kerala=yes}}

like <br>
<nowiki>
Find : {{WP India(.*?)}}
</nowiki><br>
<nowiki>
Replace: {{WP India$1|music=yes}}
</nowiki>

But I am not able to do for banners in multiple lines like <br>

<nowiki>{{WP India</nowiki> <br>
<nowiki>|class=</nowiki> <br>
<nowiki>|kerala</nowiki> <br>
<nowiki>}}</nowiki>

I tried using <br>
<nowiki>
Find : {{WP India\n(.*?)}}
</nowiki><br>

and many combinations , but it didnot work . Any idea how to do this ? -- [[User:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000"> Tinu</em>''']] [[User talk:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000">Cherian </em>''']] - 02:53, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

== SAVE [[POK]] ARTICLE ==

please save [[POK]] article from deletion
[[Pakistan occupied Kashmir]] article has been posted for deletion..i have made the following appeal there:
* '''do not delete''' : PLEASE allow editing to take place in this article so that it gets balanced; disabling editing and then crying unbalanced is hypocrisy!!!..As we all know we didn't delete european union article just because there was an "england" article or "france" article or "germany" article (which are part of EU nevertheless) ... Similarly we did not destroy soviet union article just because it is divided into 15 parts..Further it is very very clear that POK is not the same as "azad k ONLY" or "northern areas ONLY" as pok also includes trans karakoram tract, gilgit and baltistan (from 1947 till now)...pok term is used by most if not all non pakistan media.so ip and soman contention invalid.. i think it is not "fork" since contents are not identical, verifiable, has reliable sources and differs from the other articles like "[[trans-Karakoram tract]]" or "[[Northern Areas]]" (at the maximum, there is a passing reference in the summary(if this is considered fork) style with redirect links to sub regions).So, i am opposing this high handed move based on ignorance..rather i suggest that those who suggest it as non neutral contribute towards making this neutral, if it is not already neutral..pahari sahib's contention of inflammatory not substantiated both in talk page of pok or otherwise..so DO NOT DELETE[[User:Kashmircloud|Kashmircloud]] ([[User talk:Kashmircloud|talk]]) 10:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
if you can improve this article or if you believe that the article can be improved by removing the edit ban(say, exampple: semiprotect) and if you also concur that pok not equal to ajk, please help in saving this article from deleters with nationalistic (pakistani)/ religious(islamist?) motives for POK article removal(example: [[User:paharisahib]] is pakistani)..please save the [[POK]]article...[[User:Kashmircloud|Kashmircloud]] ([[User talk:Kashmircloud|talk]]) 10:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

== Assessment ==

Hi Tinu,

I was assessing articles for the Mumbai project. It's time-consuming, so I was wondering if your bot could do this:

;Task 1a
# Read [[:Category:Unknown-importance Mumbai articles]]
# List them out as comma separated values on a subpage A.
# List corresponding data such as importance and class on subpage A
# List the article titles (without the Talk: prefix) on subpage B

Subpage B is for popups, to get a rough idea of the content. I can skip stub articles from full loading. Once this is done, I will populate the csv file with my assessment. It is now ready for Task 1b.

;Task 1b
# Use AWB and Ganesh's CSV plugin
# Read the CSV file (the header line corresponds to the parameter eg maharashtra-importance, class, image-needed
# Update the banners

This should speed up review work.
Ensure that all locations mentioned in the following are tagged with wikiproject mumbai and maharashtra?
# {{tl|Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Western}}
# {{tl|Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Central}}
# {{tl|Mumbai_-_Suburban_Railway,Central_-_Harbour}}

Do let me know. [[user:Nichalp|<font color="#0082B8">=Nichalp</font>]] [[User Talk:Nichalp|<font color="#0082B8">«Talk»=</font>]] 16:49, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

: Hi Nichal, I am extremely sorry for not replying to you in time . Was busy in real life. Unfortunately my bot doesnt have the 1st task capability. I see that you have already assessed all the WP:MUMBAI articles. I can do the task 1b this way, collect all articles that transculdes {{tl|Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Western}} , {{tl|Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Central}} , {{tl|Mumbai_-_Suburban_Railway,Central_-_Harbour}} and tagg them for Maharashtra and mumbai , what say ? -- [[User:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000"> Tinu</em>''']] [[User talk:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000">Cherian </em>''']] - 05:28, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

== Adoption ==

I was wondering, you say that I am a fast learner, which got me thinking. In the present situation, I'm not really able to edit that much on Wikipedia, logging only only to check up on friends. Do you think I would make a suitable adopter? I would like the opportunity to help out newer and more inexperienced users, fullfiling all the criteria listed on the ''Adopter's programme'' page. Do you think I'm up to it? I know more-or-less how Wikipedia works now, where inexperienced users could get help if I cannot provide it and etc. I like meeting new people, showing them to projects where they would be best suited to improve, and get joy from doing so. Would it be worth a gamble? == Hello ==

:Hi there. You are quite right about Juliancolton. I have a few questions for you, alright?

:One, I would like to go to the page and express my opposition but it is almost a foregone conclusion that he will be swept into adminship. The only way I can see to have him defeated would be if you or someone else expressed the following. Two, I would be attacked on that page for expressing my sincere opposition to him and others who are his ilk. His nominator, Hink, is pretty terrible at the same things.

:There is way too much emphasis now on having people become administrators who are heavy handed. These people often are guilty of spending huge amounts of time in nearly useless editing. Not that anything can be totally a waste but there are priorities of course. They also have pet projects and can even be a bit dictatorial and ban-happy. Here is where I ran afoul of Julian, Hink, Plasticup, Profilaes, etc. These guys are just going crazy and anyone who dissents must be a troublemaker of course. Never mind that I have been on Wikipedia longer than any one of them and perhaps longer than a couple of them put together.

:I see Wikipedia as having some serious problems now. If a user is only interested in being a minor piece of something or hidden as it were behind trees and rocks in a forest scene, he or she won't have trouble. Let this same person decide to express an opinion and all kinds of wrath ensues. Anyway, I am also a Christian. I don't appreciate such things. I would like to see Julian defeated and Wikipedia brought back to a more normal society. Let's start a discourse and see what we can accomplish as far as bringing a bit more intelligence to how people conduct themselves on here. There is a bias on here as to those who can spend more than five hours a week up to twenty or whatever versus those who only spend ten to fifteen minutes a day. That should not occur. People do have busy lives and not everyone can dedicate such a huge part of their lives to this endeavor. Talk to you later! [[User:Moonlight25|Moonlight25]] ([[User talk:Moonlight25|talk]]) 10:22, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

:: Altough I dont agree with some of your comments, I thank you for leaving a note on my talk page. I vote for/aganist admin hopefuls at RFAs based on their merits and demerits. Sincerely I dont see any concerns regarding Juliancolton and obviously I have supported him by now. "I have been on Wikipedia much longer than these guys" , I guessed you have a master account. If you need I can provide u a list of ALL subcategories of [[:Category:United Arab Emirates]] , which you can carefully inspect and remove all possible wrong categories before the tagging -- [[User:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000"> Tinu</em>''']] [[User talk:Tinucherian|'''<em style="font-family:Kristen ITC;color:#ff0000">Cherian </em>''']] - 04:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
::: Excellent! Turns out that there already is a Wikiproject for the UAE, but hasn't really got going, so I will still be planning on doing what I outlined above. I'll need to cleanup the project page first and then start focusing on categories. I could definitely use a list of all sub-cats under [[:Category:United Arab Emirates]] at that point. Will ping you in a day or so when the Wikiproject is in a better shape. Thanks again! [[User:AreJay|AreJay]] ([[User talk:AreJay|talk]]) 14:53, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

== Racism faced by Bihari community in India ==

Hi Tinucherian

The article [[Racism faced by Bihari community in India]], has been systematically altered to change the voice of the article. A similar edit was done in the past as well. Kindly refer the discussion here - [[Talk:Violence_against_Hindi-speaking_migrants_in_India#cleanup]] .

A systematic attempt has been made to change the voice (and not the tone) of the article which I feel is equivalent to deleting the article, which was protested at [[Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India]] and writing a new article all together. The out come of the discussion ( [[Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India]] )was clearly against the deletion of the article.

I would request you to protect the article to it's previous edition titled " [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Violence_against_Hindi-speaking_migrants_in_India&oldid=241751588 Discrimination against Biharis in India] " till a agreement is reached. == Article on Religious violence in Orissa ==

Hi, I am the original contributor to the article [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Religious_violence_in_Orissa on violence in Orissa]]. I have been seriously provoked by POV pushing and I need good and experienced editors to help me with how and what I need to be doing as well as help with the manner to properly present facts. As far as I know I have used extremely good citations (wsj, ToI, Reuters, Time etc.) and even put in a picture which was released on Commons that was supported by Times and Reuters. All has been shattered into pieces. Most admins coming into the picture are unaware of the topic and are trying to be neutral but falling into the provocative statements. The case is under cabal but nothing has progressed. Can you give an opinion and if possible contribution? If you have the time. The current protection is totally POV. Thanks, [[User:Recordfreenow|Recordfreenow]] ([[User talk:Recordfreenow|talk]]) 18:56, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Details of my block

Hello! I'll explain you everything what was happened. I uploaded the image from this page as a fair use. First, it did mislead me when I saw the text "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.5 License" at the bottom of the page. Then, I realized that it was a fair use. The image having a source and a license, the only thing that was missing was a fair use rationale. At this step I didn't know what to do, but consulting Wikipedia help I found the template {{Non-free fair use rationale}}. So I added. On the propose for the use of this image, I wrote that it was for illustrating the movie The Mummy Returns. Yamla said that this image didn't show anything about the movie, so nominating the image as for fair use rationale dispute. I did link the image in the article about the movie and articles of Patricia Velásquez and Arnold Vosloo, appearing in this image. I may understood his opinion by removing the image of those biographical articles but I didn't understand why he removed it from the article The Mummy Returns. So I undid his edits and for that I was claimed as a vandal and blocked for violating the rules. Now, I saw that in article section The Mummy Returns#Cast has an image similar with the image I uploaded and, by checking Yamla's contributions, I found the Image:Kareena in K3G.jpg and the Image:Kapoor JabWeMet.jpg, which are movie screenshots, linked to the biographical article Kareena Kapoor. And thinking that I was blocked for using a fair use image on a biographical article and reverting removal edits. The uploader of those images wasn't block and you can see at Image:Kareena in K3G.jpg that Yamla reverted a vandalism edited of a copyrighted image for a biographical article, the reasons he used to block me at February 2008. It may passed awhile but seeing this I think that there wasn't a reason to block. Even I remember Yamla saying that I was a copyright violator, even on Commons. I just want to clear my "name". Do you understand that? I hope that I had explain all things to you! Regards, Sdrtirs (talk) 14:29, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I saw that you sent me this message: May be if you wish to tell me what had happened, I can try to help out to know what went wrong. WP is still a better place but people gets dishearted when they dont understand the policies. Was it before or after reading the above?--Sdrtirs (talk) 14:53, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou !!!

Thankyou for the Barnstar.........
Actually, I had started editing these 2 articles right from the beginning. I think the Image issue has been resolved after the non free use rationale. Featuring Mangalorean Catholics won't be easy. Although, I'll try to get it to GA status. In between I was also interested in Christianity in India. But Annons have destroyed the article. If you have any good Christian article in mind, then we can try to elevate it to FA status. Kensplanet (talk) 12:49, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

I don't think {{PD-India}} can be used there. Since, I am not sure the Image was published before 1948. It's quite possible that the Image may be of 50's or 60's since he died in 1979. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 13:57, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Bot issue

See duplicate tagging on Talk:Abraham Mazumdar. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 22:20, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out. I had disabled autosave and was experimenting something on Regexp tester but didnt realise it actually saved it. OK, anyways let me tell my issue is , I was able to add music=yes with advanced setting of 'Find and replace' for {{WP India}} for banners in single line like
{{WP India|class|kerala=yes}}

like
Find : {{WP India(.*?)}}
Replace: {{WP India$1|music=yes}}

But I am not able to do for banners in multiple lines like

{{WP India
|class=
|kerala
}}

I tried using
Find : {{WP India\n(.*?)}}

and many combinations , but it didnot work . Any idea how to do this ? -- Tinu Cherian - 02:53, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Tinu...Regexes is on my to-do list of things to learn. :) I will add music parameter to the Kingboyk's plugin. That should help you out. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:01, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

. I just needed to Tick the box named SingleLine in the find & replace screen. Got the answer from WT:AWB -- Tinu Cherian - 04:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Great! Thanks for letting me know. It will be use for me next time. May be there should be a place to consolidate these regex hacks. There was one that updates the class parameter across all the banners on the talk page. That was cool too. Regards, Ganeshk (talk)
Do you mean like this ? See my latest BRFA. It basically updates |class for a particular banner (one at a time) based on the highest |class= of other already assessed banners on the talk page -- Tinu Cherian - 11:50, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes, that's one I was talking about. Please post that code somewhere for future reference. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 03:36, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
I borrowed the code with permission from User:Richard0612 . You may see the code at User_talk:Stepshep/Archive_4#Wikiproject_templates . -- Tinu Cherian - 05:18, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
That should do it. Thanks! Ganeshk (talk) 01:25, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

SAVE POK ARTICLE

please save POK article from deletion Pakistan occupied Kashmir article has been posted for deletion..i have made the following appeal there:

  • do not delete : PLEASE allow editing to take place in this article so that it gets balanced; disabling editing and then crying unbalanced is hypocrisy!!!..As we all know we didn't delete european union article just because there was an "england" article or "france" article or "germany" article (which are part of EU nevertheless) ... Similarly we did not destroy soviet union article just because it is divided into 15 parts..Further it is very very clear that POK is not the same as "azad k ONLY" or "northern areas ONLY" as pok also includes trans karakoram tract, gilgit and baltistan (from 1947 till now)...pok term is used by most if not all non pakistan media.so ip and soman contention invalid.. i think it is not "fork" since contents are not identical, verifiable, has reliable sources and differs from the other articles like "trans-Karakoram tract" or "Northern Areas" (at the maximum, there is a passing reference in the summary(if this is considered fork) style with redirect links to sub regions).So, i am opposing this high handed move based on ignorance..rather i suggest that those who suggest it as non neutral contribute towards making this neutral, if it is not already neutral..pahari sahib's contention of inflammatory not substantiated both in talk page of pok or otherwise..so DO NOT DELETEKashmircloud (talk) 10:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

if you can improve this article or if you believe that the article can be improved by removing the edit ban(say, exampple: semiprotect) and if you also concur that pok not equal to ajk, please help in saving this article from deleters with nationalistic (pakistani)/ religious(islamist?) motives for POK article removal(example: User:paharisahib is pakistani)..please save the POKarticle...Kashmircloud (talk) 10:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Role of the adoptee

I was wondering, what am I actually meant to do as an adoptee? I know many people expect adoptees to just turn to their adopters when the need for explanations arises, but is there more to it? As an adopter, I have seen another user, Agrippa (I think) set specific tasks for his adoptees. Do you do something similar? I suppose the object of these tasks is to just get the adoptee more familiar with various aspects of Wikipedia. Just wondering, because we havn't really been in contact much as of late. Dear Tinucherian...You are invited to come back to discuss WikiProject Media franchises. Since you participated in one or more discussions of the project, possibly when it was known as WikiProject Fictional series, I hope to see you return to it. The project needs your participation. Bot request

Out of curiosity, would your current bot approvals allow you to send {{Meetup/Utah/Invite}} to members of Category:Wikipedians in Utah, Category:Wikipedians in Nevada, Category:Wikipedians in Idaho and Category:Wikipedians in Wyoming? If so could you send out that notice to the category members? (FYI, the template does not include a header, you would have to add a header as well) Thanks! --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 02:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Not a problem. I have the task approved for my bot. When Should I send ? -- Tinu Cherian - 07:01, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Could you send it now? Also, will you be able to see if they already have the alert (its not subst'ed so you can use the what links here if you need to). --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 07:30, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Ok. I will do it today. I guess u dont want it to substed , but transcluded as below -- Tinu Cherian - 08:10, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

RFA for Dougweller

Tinu, I popped onto this RFA intending to support, and noticed that you had done so already - twice. So, I indented your second support. As I note at the RFA, good candidates are worth supporting twice - but I wanted to let you know in case there was confusion. Best, UltraExactZZ Claims ~ Evidence 11:30, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

OMG ! Well thanq , ya Good candidates like him are worth supporting twice. :) My bad..I had researched on the candidate sometime back and found no concerns. When I came back today, I didnt see my support vote :( ( and wondered I didnt support yet) and hence added again. Thanks again -- Tinu Cherian - 11:40, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Assessment

Hi Tinu,

I was assessing articles for the Mumbai project. It's time-consuming, so I was wondering if your bot could do this:

Task 1a
  1. Read Category:Unknown-importance Mumbai articles
  2. List them out as comma separated values on a subpage A.
  3. List corresponding data such as importance and class on subpage A
  4. List the article titles (without the Talk: prefix) on subpage B

Subpage B is for popups, to get a rough idea of the content. I can skip stub articles from full loading. Once this is done, I will populate the csv file with my assessment. It is now ready for Task 1b.

Task 1b
  1. Use AWB and Ganesh's CSV plugin
  2. Read the CSV file (the header line corresponds to the parameter eg maharashtra-importance, class, image-needed
  3. Update the banners

This should speed up review work. Ensure that all locations mentioned in the following are tagged with wikiproject mumbai and maharashtra?

  1. {{Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Western}}
  2. {{Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Central}}
  3. {{Mumbai_-_Suburban_Railway,Central_-_Harbour}}

Do let me know. =Nichalp «Talk»= 16:49, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Nichal, I am extremely sorry for not replying to you in time . Was busy in real life. Unfortunately my bot doesnt have the 1st task capability. I see that you have already assessed all the WP:MUMBAI articles. I can do the task 1b this way, collect all articles that transculdes {{Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Western}} , {{Mumbai - Suburban Railway,Central}} , {{Mumbai_-_Suburban_Railway,Central_-_Harbour}} and tagg them for Maharashtra and mumbai , what say ? -- Tinu Cherian - 05:28, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

I was wondering, you say that I am a fast learner, which got me thinking. In the present situation, I'm not really able to edit that much on Wikipedia, logging only only to check up on friends. Do you think I would make a suitable adopter? I would like the opportunity to help out newer and more inexperienced users, fullfiling all the criteria listed on the Adopter's programme page. Do you think I'm up to it? I know more-or-less how Wikipedia works now, where inexperienced users could get help if I cannot provide it and etc. I like meeting new people, showing them to projects where they would be best suited to improve, and get joy from doing so. Would it be worth a gamble? Regards, Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 12:51, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

I am not really sure whether you are actually ready for taking adoptions yourself , but may I suggest something ? Try this : Wikipedia:New contributors' help page and Wikipedia:Help desk . See how you can help others here. Also do keep a watch on Wikipedians looking for help to help out. Once you gain some experience here and feel comfortable , you may post yourself as an adoptor. I also appreciate your interest in meeting new people, but please do remember that Wikipedia is not a social network such as MySpace or Facebook . Btw did you get a chance to look into some of the links I gave you. -- Tinu Cherian - 05:20, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

No actually, sorry, I've been down throughout the weekend with a very irritating throat infection. Wasn't able to do any homework, let alone check up on Wikipedia :(. Though I did have a quick skim through them before, if it was only a breif glance. Thanks much for your own opinions, I'll commit myself to more projects and etc provided I can keep myself above the assignment level (XD). Blooded Edge Sign/Talk 17:00, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Hi there. You are quite right about Juliancolton. I have a few questions for you, alright?
One, I would like to go to the page and express my opposition but it is almost a foregone conclusion that he will be swept into adminship. The only way I can see to have him defeated would be if you or someone else expressed the following. Two, I would be attacked on that page for expressing my sincere opposition to him and others who are his ilk. His nominator, Hink, is pretty terrible at the same things.
There is way too much emphasis now on having people become administrators who are heavy handed.
I see Wikipedia as having some serious problems now. Moonlight25 (talk) 10:22, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Altough I dont agree with some of your comments, I thank you for leaving a note on my talk page. I vote for/aganist admin hopefuls at RFAs based on their merits and demerits. Sincerely I dont see any concerns regarding Juliancolton and obviously I have supported him by now. "I have been on Wikipedia much longer than these guys" , I guessed you have a master account. Which one ? :) If you have concerns regarding them, why dont you discuss with them or try ANI? . If there is anything that I can help otherwise, please let me know. Thanks -- Tinu Cherian - 11:57, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
what could you possibly not understand or agree with? I was speaking about his demerits. he is a major disruption. Moonlight25 (talk) 00:02, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
If you such serious concerns about Julian, you should raise them at his RFA. -- Tinu Cherian - 14:53, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: TinucherianBot

Hey, can you teach me how you make a tagging bot? I'm interested in quickly clearing up unassessed articles in WP:UNI and WP:ROBO. Could I ask you to merge it into one of the operations TinucherianBot does or do I need to file for a BRFA? Technically it's part of Operation 5 of TinucherianBot... Anyways, thanks for your help. - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 13:26, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

I could do it for you for your project per task5 of TinucherianBot ( see the bot page for more details) . Well, I dont mind sharing the code for you , if you want to do it urself...Need a detailed writeup for this, I will respond regarding this by tommorrow ( IST )..-- Tinu Cherian - 13:53, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Task 5 seems like a better idea. If you could do that for those two WikiProjects that would be awesome. Thanks a lot! :D - Jameson L. Tai talkcontribs 14:11, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
 Doing... Autoassessment for WP:UNI and WP:ROBO . -- Tinu Cherian - 07:12, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
 Done 34 of 376 unassessed articles of WP:ROBO were autoassessed based on already done assessments by other projects. -- Tinu Cherian - 08:08, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
 Done 10 of 110 unassessed articles of WP:UNI were autoassessed based on already done assessments by other projects on the same talk page . Let me know if you are still interested in making the bot, are you familiar with using AWB ?-- Tinu Cherian - 09:07, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: Assessing

With 2 tagging, can you bot also assess the articles? Say if I mention that all schools get a mid rating? Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 14:06, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

It can assess only "|class=" based on other already done assessments on the same talk page , not the importance scale. If you want category:Schools in Mumbai to rated as mid importance, I can probably do with WP:AWB for you or if you want large scale for different categories, I need to code with regexp in AWB and file a BRFA too -- Tinu Cherian - 09:17, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

OJS

When I looked up the OJS page, it seems like it needs a lot of work. It's in the Computing Wikiproject. How can I find the people that can improve it? --MahaPanta (talk) 00:14, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Post it at Computing Wikiproject talk page and may be at WP:FREE SOftware also . I have assessed it for WP:COMP project.-- Tinu Cherian - 15:58, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. The article is in real bad shape. I hope the assesment you gave it will let people know it needs improvement. --MahaPanta (talk) 17:09, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

vandalism on Bihar article

Hi Tinucherian

Someone has restored to vandalism on Bihar page using IP - 125.63.112.149 . Please Check his edits. Manoj nav (talk) 16:29, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Good to see that you have restored the page yourself. Thanks. I have left a warning on User talk:125.63.112.149. -- Tinu Cherian - 04:28, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. We are trying to improve articles related to Bihar. We plan to write new articles on Bihar covering specific topics like flood, famine, agriculture, economy, rivers, transportation systems, languages, naxalism, politics etc. I knew about Wikipedia:INBR, but I have not used it. Many of the editors who edit pages related to Bihar don't even know about it.
I am looking for a peer review of the article - Racism faced by Bihari Community in India. Even though the article is not yet complete, neutral feedbacks can help to improve it further. Manoj nav (talk) 08:17, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Script for automatic banner placement

Hi Tinu, hope you're doing well. I intend to create a Wikiproject for articles related to the UAE soon. I remember that you were able to run a script a while back to automatically tag India-related articles a while back. If I can go through and review categories and sub-categories (with their member articles) under United Arab Emirates, how easy would it be to run a script to automatically tag them with the proposed Wikiproject banner? Thanks AreJay (talk) 01:02, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Ya. Hope the same over there. Let me know once the Wikiproject is setup ( dont hesitate to ask me if u need any help , especially creating banner, WP 1.0 Assessment categories etc) . If already done, let me know of the project page , the banner and the categories to tag, My bot TinucherianBot will be happy to tag the articles in the categories. If you need I can provide u a list of ALL subcategories of Category:United Arab Emirates , which you can carefully inspect and remove all possible wrong categories before the tagging -- Tinu Cherian - 04:38, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Excellent! Turns out that there already is a Wikiproject for the UAE, but hasn't really got going, so I will still be planning on doing what I outlined above. I'll need to cleanup the project page first and then start focusing on categories. I could definitely use a list of all sub-cats under Category:United Arab Emirates at that point. Will ping you in a day or so when the Wikiproject is in a better shape. Thanks again! AreJay (talk) 14:53, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
I guess Wikipedia:WikiProject United Arab Emirates is what u r refering to. Btw as of now the project articles uses WP:Western Asia unified banner with UAE parameter. -- Tinu Cherian - 14:58, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Racism faced by Bihari community in India

Hi Tinucherian

The article Racism faced by Bihari community in India, has been systematically altered to change the voice of the article. A similar edit was done in the past as well. Kindly refer the discussion here - Talk:Violence_against_Hindi-speaking_migrants_in_India#cleanup .

A systematic attempt has been made to change the voice (and not the tone) of the article which I feel is equivalent to deleting the article, which was protested at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India and writing a new article all together. The out come of the discussion ( Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Racism_faced_by_Bihari_people_in_India )was clearly against the deletion of the article.

I would request you to protect the article to it's previous edition titled " Discrimination against Biharis in India " till a agreement is reached. Thanks Manoj nav (talk) 17:51, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Article on Religious violence in Orissa

Hi, I am the original contributor to the article [on violence in Orissa]. Thanks, Recordfreenow (talk) 18:56, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
