Emotional Arithmetic is Paolo Barzman film based on the novel by Matt Cohen. The film stars Susan Sarandon , Gabriel Byrne , Max von Sydow , and Christopher Plummer. The film does not have a release date set for the U.S , but it is scheduled for 2007. The film will open at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada on September 15, 2007.
Emotional Arithmetic tells the story of three people who formed a bond in a concentration camp during World War II. The three are Jakob Bronski (Sydow) who saw goodness in two children in the camp. They are Melanie (Sarandon) and Christopher (Byrne). When the three are separated during their housed days in the camp , emotional wounds conflict their lives in different ways. Years past , and Melanie now in her 50's is married to David Winters (Plummer). Jakob now a senior citizen is working in a psychiatric hospital and Christopher is a novelist. As the film goes on the three will meet again. The film unfolds into a state of jealousy , love , and fatal consequences and the characters struggle to face the past and move on.
