Plot

Template:Spoiler The film tells a story in the Warring States Period of China. The state of Zhao invaded the state of Liang. A Mohist came to Liang in order to help them protect the city. Ge Li (Andy Lau) was a Mohist warning the dangers of surrendering to an invading Zhao army that intends to conquer Liang. The king of Liang was worried about Ge Li inciting war amongst the public, but decided to allow him to temporarily aid in defending Liang. Ge Li was given high clearance to do as he pleased to defend Liang. Under his plan, he created a bulwark and created various forms of traps to slow down the invading army. The Prince and Generals of Liang questioned his leadership and skills as a tactician, but time after time, his tactics were right. The Prince of Liang eventually developed a high level of respect for Ge Li's wisdom and experience. After Ge Li successfully defended the kingdom from superior numbers, he gained high reverence upon the local population. So threatened was his popularity the king of Liang plotted a means to have him deposed of rank and have him executed on trumped up charges. Ge Li returned from a scouting mission and was charged with starting a war under false pretenses as a means to arrest him. The Prince of Liang faked a fight against Ge Li so that he can use himself as a hostage to help free Ge Li. Using the very improved arrows Ge Li help defend Liang, they were used against him to kill him. The Prince of Liang was killed in the incident and everyone else following Ge Li were killed except Ge Li himself. Trumped up charges were also made against those that were loyal to Ge Li within the kingdom. Sympathizers were accused of being part of a rebellion against Liang. Various men were tortured and killed in order to gain respect out of fear for the king. The King of Liang was too foolish to believe the Zhao army left and suffered for it when the Zhao army raided the city in a surprise attack. Ge Li returned with a surviving group of the Liang army to attack and restore power to the people of Liang. After the conflict, Ge Li left with orphans of Liang to promote peace among kingdoms. The King of Liang would be killed five years later and eventually the Qin army united China and became the first dynasty. Template:Spoiler end
