Fan Bingbing ( Chinese  范冰冰 , Pinyin Fàn Bīngbīng ; born September 16, 1981 in Qingdao , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese actress and singer . As in previous years, she topped the Forbes list of the highest paid Chinese in 2015.

Career

Fan was born in Qingdao . She grew up in Yantai and attended Shanghai Xie Jin Film and Television Art College and the Shanghai Theater Academy . She made her first experience in front of the camera in 1998 in the popular TV series My Fair Princess , in which Fan played the role of Jinsuo. In 2003 she starred in the drama Cell Phone , which became the best-selling film of the year in China. In 2006, Fan won the Golden Bauhinia Awards for her role in A Battle of Wits . The following year she received the Golden Horse Award for her role as Xu Manli in the horror film The Matrimony . In 2009 she appeared in Bodyguards and Assassins , for which she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress by the Hong Kong Film Awards . In 2014 she played the mutant Blink (Clarice Ferguson) in X-Men: Future is Past .

Since the end of 2014 she played the main role of Wu Zetian in the television series The Empress of China (武 媚娘 传奇Wu Mei Niang chuan qi ) on Hunan TV . The series is considered the most expensive Chinese TV series to date.

In 2016, she won the Acting Award of the Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián for the lead role in Wo Bu Shi Pan Jinlian (English-language festival title: I Am Not Madame Bovary ) , while the film was awarded the main prize of the Golden Shell . The film adaptation of a novel by Liu Zhenyun focuses on the young woman Li Xuelian, who agrees with her husband to fake a divorce in order to get a second apartment. When her ex-husband married another woman six months later, she began to sue her husband out of anger and went on to crack down on the Chinese legal system for ten years.

In 2017 she was appointed to the competition jury at the 70th Cannes Film Festival . In the same year she was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars annually.

In the summer of 2018, media reported that fans had not been seen in public since July 1, 2018. After a CNN TV report about her disappearance was hidden in China on September 22, 2018, China's stock exchange newspaper reported that investigations were underway against her on suspicion of tax evasion . Fan Bingbing was accused of hiding her real income by having two contracts drawn up for each of her engagements, one real and one "adapted" for submission to the tax authorities. On October 3, 2018, Fan Bingbing asked for forgiveness for her tax fraud via the Chinese short message service Sina Weibo , followed by 62 million fans. The official Xinhua news agency announced that Fan Bingbing could avoid charges for around 883 million yuan in back taxes and fines.

Private life

She has been engaged to actor Li Chen since September 16, 2017 .
