Kya is about a girl named Kya and her brother Frank who went into a their basement’s secret passageway and accidentally end up transported into a whole new universe, and are separated while going through the passage to the new universe. While Kya looks for her brother, she meets creatures called Nativs, who befriend her and help her look for her brother. Kya later finds out that the Nativs are being attacked by Wolfens, which are Nativs transformed into evil wolfens by the Wolfens' evil ruler Brazul. Kya soon finds out that Brazul is her father, who disappeared years ago.

Kya: Dark Lineage begins with the protagonist Kya and her half-brother Frank home alone. In her upstairs bedroom, Kya hears a suspicious noise and follows it downstairs to finds Frank in a previously unknown room in the basement. While speaking about Kya's father, Frank unwittingly finishes a mysterious puzzle on a table, opening a portal which sucks in both Kya and Frank. Kya awakens with three Nativs (animal-like creatures) looking down on her. They are then ambushed and chased through a jungle by feral werewolves called the Wolfen/Wolfun. All but one of the Nativs were captured during the chase. Kya and Aton eventually reach a strange village, called Nativ City, and meets the village leader Atea.
Kya is realized by the Nativs that she can save the Nativs. The Nativs give Kya the power of exorcising to free the Wolfens and turn them back into Nativs. In return for freeing the Nativs, the Nativs will help find Kya’s brother and build shops for Kya so she can buy new items for her quest. Besides finding her brother, she must find the medallion, which will bring Kya back to her universe. The medallion can be and is split into seven pieces called Runes that are made out of pure energy. The seven runes that form the medallion are put into a holder called a Receptacle that Kya must find before she can find the pieces of the medallion. In any case, Kya will have to confront Brazul and find all about her dark lineage.

Atea explains that the Wolfen/Wolfun are merely Nativs mutated by Brazul (formerly Alan), Kya's father. Kya resolves to save Frank and is introduced to Akasa, who teaches her how to fight using mystical bracelets which greatly enhance her strength. Kya is blessed with a power which allows her to exorcize unconscious Wolfen/Wolfun and transform them back into Nativs.
Characters
*Kya is a teenager from Brooklyn, New York and the heroine of Kya: Dark Lineage.
*Akasa is a Nativ that trains Kya in hand-to-hand combat with the help of magic fighting bracelets.
*Area is a Nativ that usually tells kya about somehing she does not know and will be useful to her. Area tells Kya about nooties, Nativ City's currency. He also tells her about exorcising wolfen.
*Atea is the chief Nativ and helps Kya on her missions, telling her where to go and how.
*Aton is a Nativ that helps Kya on her missions. Kya first meets Aton when she is awoken by a few Nativs while they are in the world, The Roots. Aton brings Kya to Nativ city.
*Atea's bird is Atea's pet and says something witty when Kya goes on a new mission.
*Brazul (Alan) is the ruler of the parallel universe and the creator of evil wolfens. Brazul is Kya's father and the reason why Kya is in the parallel world.
*Frank is Kya’s brother. He is the one who found Alan's secret room and the earth's medallion. Upon arriving in the new universe, he is taken away by wolfen to Brazul’s laboratory.
*Nativs are a gentle tribe that are snatched by Brazul and turned into wolfens. They live in Nativ City.
*Stuff is a rare species of animal that allows Atea to contact Kya by telepathy while Kya is on a mission.
*The Snore is an unseen character that the Nativs talk about. They tell Kya that he is so boring that she shouldn't let him talk to her.
*Wolfen are former Nativs mutated by evil and comprise the army of Brazul. Kya can transform a Wolfen back into a Kativ by knocking one out in a normal fight and exorcising it.

In return for freeing the excorcized Nativs, Atea agrees to help Kya find her half-brother. Kya learns she must find a magical medallion which will allow her to return to her own universe. The medallion was split into seven runes, emblems made of pure energy, which must be housed in a special amulet. During the course of tracking down the runes, Aton leads Kya to an industrialized area dedicated to mining magical amber. Aton betrays Kya, allowing Brazul to ambush her. During the course of the fight Kya collapses part of the mine to escape.
Setting
Eventually she discovers that Frank is being held in Brazul's laboratory, and she assaults the complex to rescue him. Upon arriving in the lab proper, she is horrified to learn that Brazul has turned Frank into a Wolfen/Wolfun. Kya defeats the Wolfen/Wolfun Frank and performs the exorcism ritual which returns him to his human form. Kya goes on to gather the last runes required to return home though she is ambushed again by Brazul, who takes the seven runes from her. Kya learns that she is a half alien and she escapes her imprisonment.
<!---The worlds are ordered in the order that kya visits them for the first time. Please do not change it.--->

Kya journeys to Brazul's fortress, she fights and knocks out Aton who is now a Wolfen/Wolfun but when she gets the chance to exorcise him she doesn't because of falling, heavy crystals. Kya then heads for Brazul and the runes. After a difficult battle, Kya defeats Brazul and returns victorious to a cheering Nativ City, where she activates the portal and finds herself in a desolate place which is not her home. Kya and Frank are in a desert island and are attacked by a creature.

The universe is the area Kya travels around in and consist of different worlds.

The story ends here, but if all the wolfens are all exorcised it cuts to the credits.
The Roots
The Roots is a forest world. The Roots is the world that Kya accidently transported to when the talisman was activated, Kya meets Aton and other nativs that are running away from wolfen, Aton helps Kya run from the wolfen, when Kya and Aton are no longer being chased by wolfen Aton brings Kya to the entrance to nativ city, but first Kya and Aton take care of a wolfen gaurding the entrance to Nativ City, Kya and Aton then go to Nativ City.

Gameplay
The Roots is one of the two worlds that are connected to Nativ City and is accessible from Nativ City.

*Kya is able to go to The Roots right away once she gets a weapon.
Kya: Dark Lineage focuses on action-adventure platforming gameplay, with the player guiding Kya through a variety of stages. During the game the player can earn "nooties", allowing them to return to the Nativ city to purchase items required to progress through the game. The player can purchase several items which allow Kya to increase her mobility, including the ability to climb slippery surfaces, perform wall jumps or ride fast-moving lizards called Jamguts. Whenever the player suffers damage, Kya can recover energy by draining it from big amber shards.
*Kya later returns to retrieve a rune that is in the world of The Roots.
*The Roots have 4 shell elevators.
*There is one rare animal in The Roots, this is a yellow micken.

The game focuses strongly on the element of air, featuring various sequences in which Kya must use strong wind currents to her advantage (although these can also prove to be a disturbance in certain points). It also features several freefall sequences during which the player must control Kya's speed and the direction of her descent, which usually ends when Kya lands on a big flower called Amortos, serving as an air bag. The player will suffer damage by touching objects while freefalling, or instantly lose a life by landing on the ground (at which point the freefall sequence will be restarted).
Nativ City
Nativ City is the world where the nativs live.In Nativ city Aton introduces kya to Atea,Atea tells Kya about how brazul is capturing nativs and turning the nativs into wolfen,he tells her that frank is with brazul and tells kya that in order to return to her world she must collect the receptacle and 7 runes in order to make the talisman that will bring kya and frank back home.

Complementing the player's mobility is Kya's "Boomy", a magical boomerang-like weapon which allows Kya to cut ropes and attack enemies. The Boomy can be upgraded twice in the Nativ city, first allowing the player to aim it in a first-person perspective (Silver Boomy) and later (Golden Boomy), which allows the player to activate switches or attack normally unreachable foes. The player can also purchase explosive or electrifying bombs to damage foes. Additionally, there are purchasable traps that can be used to capture rare monsters for the Nativ zoo.
*Nativ City is where Kya meets Atea and Akasa.
*Kya can talk to other nativs, buy items, fight wolfen dummies and play minigames in nativ city.
*In Nativ City there is a giant amber stone that Kya can heal herself with, without the use of mana balls.
*Nativ city contains a zoo where Kya can catch rare animals with a trap bomb and find each of them on any of the worlds of Kya: Dark Lineage and give it to the zoo for nooties (money), *Nativ city contains a giant tree with all of the shell elevators to the other worlds.
*More shops open up in Nativ City as Kya frees more nativs from Brazul.
*Nativ City contains one rare animal, a blue micken, that Kya can capture and give to the Nativ City Zoo.

Puzzles, which often rely on items or creatures within the immediate environment to solve, are another part of the game. Other puzzles might require creative use of Kya's mobility or use of her fully upgraded Boomy's ability to be directed as the player wishes. Some may only be solved when the player has acquired the correct equipment for Kya from Nativ City.
Flying Forest
Flying forest is a flying forest full of plants, animals and monsters, board slopes and free falling winds.
The flying forest is the first world kya goes to, kya first goes to the flying forest to retrieve a blue egg that contains a flying creature called stuff that allows atea to talk to kya from nativ city, then when she buys a magic board at nativ city she goes back to the flying forest to go to an unaccessible area only accessible by a magic board, the new area contains the receptacle which will allow kya to find and equip the runes to her belt, allowing her to gain more magic and be a little bit closer to going back to her universe, the flying forest also has a wolfen base that kya must go to in order to get to the hunters domain and the air post. Before going to hunters domain kya finds a rune before the entrance to the hunters domain, but before she can go to the hunters domain kya has to fight a giant fire wormlike creature The flying forest is the most scenic world of Kya: Dark Lineage

In the flying forest there is one rare animal, a red sinoc monster that kya can capture and give to the nativ city zoo. The flying forest has 4 shell elevators.

Beyond the beginning portion of the game the player's advancement is based on three factors: The equipment they have purchased, the number of Wolfen/Wolfun Kya has turned back into Nativs and ultimately, the collection of all seven Runes. A total of 260 Nativs can be rescued throughout the course of the game, though the player is not required to rescue them all in order to confront Brazul and complete the game.
Hunters Domain
Hunter’s domain is a world full of rocky terrain, it is also the first world where kya rides a jamgut which is a two legged creature that can jump very high, kya uses a jamgut to jump across cliffs. When kya enters hunters domain atea communicates with stuff and tells kya that the hunter wolfen has kidnapped him, kya then goes through hunters domain looking for atea, and when she finds atea she has to fight the hunter wolfen, after she defeats the hunter wolfen it falls of the cliff to never been seen of again.
Kya can find two rare animals in the hunters domain she can find a red dog and a gray white bone creature called a shooter. There is also a rune in hunters domain that kya can get anytime she goes to hunters domain. In hunters domain kya can get to the world, the quarry. Hunters domain has 6 shell elevators.

A hand-to-hand combat system which is very similar to modern brawlers is included, during which Kya is unable to use her ranged weapons and must instead engage her foes in melee with punches, kicks and throws. The player will engage in this form of combat whenever a Wolfen/Wolfun is near. Players start with only a few simple moves Kya learns from Akasa, though players can acquire more powerful bracelets in Nativ shops which increase the strength of Kya's attacks and allow her to use a greater variety of combat moves, such as grabbing Wolfen/Wolfun by their tails and spinning them around, or even riding on top of them to ram against others. Whenever a Wolfen/Wolfun is knocked unconscious, the player can exorcize it back into its original Nativ form, assuming Kya has enough Mana spheres.
The quarry
The quarry is a world full of mountains and mist.
When kya visits the quarry she needs to get to the amber mine because there is a cannon there that can bring kya to the fortress where brazul lives , aton helps her get their but kya finds out that aton was on the same side as brazul, when she finds this out she goes into a battle with brazul, after the battle kya heals herself with the amber but when she does that it causes the amber mine to start to collapse, brazul says that he will only save kya if she hands him all of the runes that she has, kya declines his offer and runs off to a nearby shell elevator. There is one rune in the quarry. There is also only one rare animal, a white micken. The quarry contains the only way to get to the world wolfen city besides using a shell elevator. There are 4 shell elevators in the quarry.

Further adding to the diversity of the game are Magic Boards which allow Kya to rapidly descend across rocky or otherwise treacherous terrain. These sequences greatly resemble snowboarding games, though Kya initially is forced to simply slide down slippery areas on her feet. Later sequences require players to initially purchase and then upgrade Kya's Magic Board so that she can gain the ability to jump or rapidly increase her speed.
The Air Post
The air post is a big rocky floating island. Kya goes to the air post to get the rune that is there, and to get to the forgotten island.
The air post has 4 shell elevators.

Trivia
*The game was originally to have a sequel, but due to the poor ratings, the idea was scraped.

--all below are found in the game---

*Kya is the only female in the entire game, excluding some of the monsters you fight.

*Because there are no females in the game (besides Kya), it is unknown how Nativs reproduce (if possible), unless the female nativs are hidden or are in an alternate town.

*In nativ city there are only two nativs that walk around on each floor, besides the main character nativs and nativs in shops or the nativs that are building shops.
* Kya has to free 260 wolfen.
* There are 260 wolfen that Kya can turn back into wolfen and yet you only meet around 20 or less nativs in nativ city, in the entire game.
* Kya dark lineage has two endings one ending can be obtained when Kya rescues all of the nativs and the other is when Kya does not rescue all of the nativs. The counter seems to be glitch-prone, however, as there are instances where the "260" ending has been shown while there are still wolfen left--and vice-versa. The proper "ending" with less than 260 is merely a black screen with white text asking "THE END?", while the "260" ending is a cliffhanger taking place in a rather desolate, grey place populated by at least one creature of a seemingly hostile and/or predatory nature.
*In the anime Naruto, the character called Tenten is a weapons expert. In episode 43, Tenten takes out a scroll full of weapons and shoots an array of different weapons at an enemy. Two of the weapons resemble Kya's boomy, except they were both metal and one did not have a handle.

Kya: Dark Lineage is a third-person platforming action-adventure game for the PlayStation 2, developed by Eden Games and published by Atari.

Though initially set in the present, Kya: Dark Lineage throws the title character and her half-brother Frank into a strange new world. Kya finds herself separated from her brother, with the burden of protecting a friendly tribe of creatures called the Nativs from the predations of the evil overlord Brazul and his minions, the Wolfen.

Plot[edit]

The titular character, Kya

The story ends here, but if all the wolfens are all exorcised it cuts to the credits.

Gameplay[edit]

Artwork of the Kya: Dark Lineage world.

Release[edit]

Kya: Dark Lineage was released exclusively for PlayStation 2 in North America on November 18, 2003,[1] in Australia on December 19, 2003,[2] and in PAL territories the following year on April 2, 2004.[3]

Reception[edit]

Kya: Dark Lineage received mixed reviews. GameRankings gave it a score of 72.98%[4] and Metacritic gave it 69 out of 100.[5] While well received by some (including GameSpot[11] and PSM) it was critically panned by several major publications, including Electronic Gaming Monthly[7] and Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine.[15]

Common complaints include the game's spotty camera and imprecise controls,[17][10] while other reviews cited the game's poor script and entry into an oversaturated market as reasons for disliking the game.[8]
