This is a list of characters in the anime and manga series Bleach who are hollows. Hollows are the central antagonists of the series. Series creator Tite Kubo uses many Spanish motifs in regards to hollows and their variants.

Hollows are departed human souls that have not been sent to Soul Society in due time, leading to their corruption. Once corrupted, they gain a skull-like mask, a drastically different physical appearance, and a very animalistic level of intelligence. Hollows crave other human souls, living or dead, to fill their empty hearts and ease their pain, starting with the persons it loved the most in its past life. They reside in Hueco Mundo when they're not scouring the human world for souls to consume. They will continue to search for and consume souls until they are slain by a Soul Reaper, at which point their souls are purified and they are allowed to pass on to Soul Society.

Some hollows have an unusually strong thirst for souls which leads them to consume other hollows. These hollows gather naturally, fighting to the death, and finally merging with one another, evolving into stronger and more intelligent forms known as . Within the menos, there are three levels of evolution. The first of these is the , large and powerful but possessing very low intelligence and no individuality, the result of the merging of hundreds of hollows. In the rare case a gillian retains its consciousness, it can continue to consume other gillians and eventually evolve into an , gaining a smaller body and superior strength, speed and intelligence, compared to their previous form. From there, some adjuchas have the potential to evolve into a . Vasto lorde are more humanoid in size and appearance and possess battle strength comparable or superior to a Soul Reaper captain, to the point where captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya speculates that Soul Society would be doomed if Sōsuke Aizen managed to get ten vasto lorde under his command.
Low German or Low Saxon (in Germany: Plattdüütsch or Nedderdüütsch; in Netherlands: Nedersaksisch or Nederduuts; see nomenclature) is any of the regional language varieties of the West Germanic languages spoken mainly in Northern Germany and eastern parts of the Netherlands.

As hollows evolve they gain access to unique skills and abilities, fueled by the souls they have consumed. The most basic of these abilities is , high-powered energy blasts that can be fired from various body parts, such as the mouth or hand. There are at least two additional variants of the cero, which are more powerful and faster than normal ceros, though less commonly used.
Geographical extent
Low German in Europe
Hollows
Dialects of Low German are spoken widely in the northeastern Netherlands and written there with a Dutch orthography (v., Dutch Low Saxon).
Almost all antagonists in Bleach are, by definition, categorized as hollows. The following are those hollows that have not attained the further classification of arrancar. Many of the hollows shown in the series have few, if any, speaking lines and are killed shortly after their introduction.

Bawabawa
Variants of Low German were widely (and are still to a far lesser extent) spoken in most parts of Northern Germany, for instance in the states of Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg. Small portions of northern Hesse and northern Thuringia are traditionally Low Saxon speaking too. Historically, Low German was also spoken in formerly German parts of Poland as well as in East Prussia and the Baltic States of Estonia and Latvia. The language was also formerly spoken in the outer areas of what is now the city state of Berlin but in the course of urbanization the language vanished (the Berlin dialect itself is a northern outpost of High German).
Bawabawa is a giant, eel-like hollow whose mask consists of a simple plate on his head with a pair of horns. He acts as both pet and transportation for Nel Tu and her companions. Bawabawa tends to get upset for not being included in the group's Super Sentai-styled introduction sequences. It is initially explained that Bawabawa can't survive without sand, which is why he can't accompany Nel into Las Noches. Dondochakka later reveals that Bawabawa is stored inside his stomach along with other combat-based insects. Despite his fearsome appearance, Bawabawa is actually rather emotional and not evil, but will fight if necessary.

Arrancar
Today, there are still speakers outside of Germany to be found in the coastal areas of present Poland (minority of ethnic German Pommersch speakers who were not expelled from Pomerania, as well as the regions around Braunsberg). In the Southern Jutland region of Denmark there may still be some Low German speakers in some German minority communities, but the Low German and North Frisian dialects of Denmark can be considered moribund at this time.
are hollows that have had their masks almost completely removed and have gained the powers of a Soul Reaper. In the process they gain a human appearance and strength, speed and intelligence beyond the level of a simple hollow as well as , skin so hard they can fight swords bare-handed. Arrancar become major antagonists during the second half of the series as they start being led by Sōsuke Aizen who uses the Hōgyoku to create and perfect the arrancars. According to Tite Kubo, many of the arrancar are named after real life architects and designers.

Like Soul Reapers, arrancar possess . Unlike Soul Reapers, whose zanpakutō are manifestations of their owner's soul, arrancar's zanpakutō are manifestations of their former hollow selves. With occasional exceptions, an arrancar's zanpakutō resembles a regular sword in its sealed state. When released through a process called , part of their original hollow form is restored, changing their appearance, giving them greater strength, and granting them access to their original abilities.
Low German outside Europe and the Mennonites
Espada
There are also immigrant communities in several places of the world, such as Canada, the United States, Mexico, South Africa, Central Asia, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, where Low German is spoken. In some of these countries, the language is part of the Mennonite religion and culture . There are Mennonite communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, Canada which use Low German in their religious services and communities; the people are largely ethnic Germans whose ancestors had moved to newly acquired Russian territories in Ukraine before emigrating to the Americas in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The type of Low German spoken in these communities and in the midwest United States has diverged since emigration. The survival of the language is tenuous in many places and has died out in some places where assimilation has occurred. Mennonite colonies in Paraguay, South America and Chihuahua, Mexico are said to have made Low German a "co-official language" of the community, in addition to the countries' official language, Spanish.

The are the ten strongest arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's army. They are ranked in order of their strength. The members are listed according to their known rank. The first three hold the top three ranks although their specific ranks haven't been revealed.

Nomenclature
Stark
* Rikiya Koyama

Stark appears to be very lazy; he is seen sleeping when the Espada learn of Aaroniero Arruruerie's death, and does not appear overly concerned by the news. Lilinette, his young female Fracción, typically shows the concern that Stark does not. When he is shown to be serious, however, his personality changes completely; he comes off as reluctant but nonetheless willing to do what needs to be done to complete the task at hand. He almost seems to be the Espada equivalent of Captain Kyoraku. The remains of Stark's hollow mask consist of a bottom jaw that is positioned like a necklace. His hollow hole is on his sternum, right below the tip of his mask. While his combat abilities have not been shown, he is at the least very fast, as he manages to kidnap Orihime Inoue while Kenpachi Zaraki and Ichigo Kurosaki are only a few feet away.
Low German is called Plattdüütsch or Nedderdüütsch by its native speakers in Germany, and Nedersaksisch or Nederduuts by most of its native speakers in the Netherlands.

Halibel
Officially, Low German is called Niederdeutsch (Low German) by the German authorities. In the Netherlands, the Dutch authorities call it Nedersaksisch (Low Saxon). Plattdeutsch/Niederdeutsch and Plattduits/Nedersaksisch are seen in linguistic texts from the German and Dutch linguistic communities respectively.
* Megumi Ogata

Halibel is the only current female Espada. She is very calm and rarely speaks, and when she does it's fairly serious, such as when she tells her three female Fracción Apache, Mila Rose, and Sun-Sun that being afraid of an Espada's released form is a natural reaction. The remnants of Halibel's hollow mask are partially covered by her collar, but it is clear that she at least has pieces of mask on both sides of her cheeks. She carries her zanpakutō on her back in a manner similar to Soi Fon; the sword itself is notably broad and short compared to those of other Espada.
In Danish it is called Plattysk.

Barragan Luisenbarn
“Low” refers to the flat plains and coastal area of the northern European lowlands, contrasted with the mountainous areas of central and southern Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, where High German is spoken.
* Shōzō Iizuka

is a stout, older, and grumpy arrancar. The remnant of his mask takes the form of a five-pointed crown. He bears large visible scars on the left side of his chin and across his right eye, and wears a large rope-like sash with a sun-crested buckler attached to it in addition to the regular obi sash. He appears to hold a position of power over the other Espada, or at the very least thinks somewhat highly of himself, as he begins giving orders from a skull-adorned throne once Aizen is trapped, instructing Halibel "not to underestimate him." <!-- he is not espada number 1 until explicitly stated--> He has six Fracción: Charlotte Cuuhlhourne, Abirama Redder, Findor Carias, Pō, and two who have yet to be named.
The ISO 639-2 language code for Low German has been nds since May 2000.

Neliel Tu Oderschvank
Disambiguation
There are three different uses of the term “Low German”:
<span id="Nel Tu"/>
* Tomoko Kaneda

Neliel Tu Oderschvank, commonly known as Nel Tu, is a good-natured, child-like arrancar when first introduced. The remains of her hollow mask make up a cartoonish skull on the top of her head. Nel and her companions believe Soul Reapers, not hollows, to be evil, and as such are afraid of them. In spite of this, she develops an attachment to Ichigo Kurosaki and starts following him around after her introduction. She is a self-proclaimed masochist. Nel's true form is that of a fully-grown woman, her mask appearing less cartoonish with a pair of curved horns. A large "3" tattooed on her back indicates that she was previously the third Espada. Tired of her superiority over him, Nnoitra Jiruga snuck up on and attacked Nel in the past, causing her to turn into her child-form, giving her amnesia, and allowing him to expel her from the Espada. When Nel runs into Nnoitra years later and he begins to torture Ichigo, she turns into her adult form with her memories restored. Though considerably more mature than her child form, she retains her affection for Ichigo, as she comically hugs him without realizing that her strength is causing him personal injury. As she is about to defeat Nnoitra, Nel reverts back to her child form, with no apparent memory of what had just occurred.
#A specific name of any West Germanic varieties that have neither taken part in the High German consonant shift nor classify as Low Franconian or Anglo-Frisian; this is the scope discussed in this article.
#A broader term for the closely-related, continental West Germanic language family unaffected by the High German consonant shift, nor classifying as Anglo-Frisian, and thus including Low Franconian varieties such as Dutch.

In her child-state, Nel's vomit (which she believes to be saliva) acts as a rather weak, but useful, healing agent. In both her child and adult form, she can swallow cero attacks and fire them back. In her adult form, she can also add her own cero to this blast, doubling its power. Nel's zanpakutō, which manifests when she transforms, is named . Its release command is "declare". Her released form is that of a ibex-like centaur with longer curved horns, a thick tail, and armor over her shoulders and hands. Her sword transforms into a double-ended lance, giving her the appearance of a medieval knight or a jouster. One of her attacks is called Lanzador Verde (Spanish for "green lancer"), in which she throws her lance directly at her opponent. The lance moves at high speed and rotates extremely fast, drilling through anything it hits.
The colloquial term "Platt" denotes both Low German dialects and any non-standard variety of German; this use is chiefly found in northern and western Germany and is considered not to be linguistic .

Ulquiorra Schiffer
* Daisuke Namikawa

Ulquiorra Schiffer is the fourth Espada, signified by the "4" tattooed to his chest. His name stems from that of a furniture designer named Patricia Urquiola. He has a largely stoic appearance, rarely even changing his facial expression, and does not allow the actions of others to impede the tasks set to him by Sōsuke Aizen. He will attack his comrades to get them to pay attention to him, and deems anyone he does not find of particular interest to be "trash" and therefore expendable. The remainder of Ulquiorra's hollow mask forms a broken helmet with a curved horn and rests on the left half of his head. His hollow hole has moved since his first appearance; when first introduced it is at the base of his neck, but in later appearances it has been moved onto his chest.
Many people in northern Germany are unaware that the use of Low German does not abruptly stop at the German-Dutch border, but in fact continues on into the eastern Netherlands. Among those who are aware of it, a measure of estrangement (especially Dutch versus German influences and Dutch versus German based spelling), besides alleged sensitivities remaining from the German occupation in World War II, is often used as an argument in favor of ignoring the dialects of the Netherlands. The general attitude among Low German speakers in the Netherlands, however, is that the Dutch Low Saxon varieties belong to a continuum with the Low German varieties of Northern Germany. Many Low German speakers in the Netherlands are willing and happy to participate in activities organized on the German side of the border, and Dutch people have won prizes in Low German literature contests in Germany.

Though Ulquiorra has yet to fight with his full power, he has displayed a number of unique tendencies. He usually keeps his hands in his pockets when in a combat situation, only bringing them out to deflect attacks. Grimmjow Jeagerjaques notes that he tends to stab opponents in the chest, the same location as his hollow hole, whenever he is particularly interested in a battle, though it is unclear if Ulquiorra is conscious of this habit. He is very analytical; he almost accurately theorizes the means behind Orihime Inoue's abilities, and recognizes that Ichigo Kurosaki's power constantly fluctuates between comparatively very weak and far stronger than his own. He also seems to refrain from killing a person unless necessary, twice sparing Ichigo and proclaiming he would not harm Orihime because he had not been ordered to. He can replay events he has seen to others by removing and crushing his left eye, which then turns into dust and flows around those Ulquiorra is relaying information to. Ulquiorra is a firm believer in absolute materialism and has stated that what his eye cannot see does not exist. The name and released state of Ulquiorra's zanpakutō have not been revealed. Aizen leaves Ulquiorra command over Las Noches when he invades the false Karakura Town

Nnoitra Jiruga
*Nobutoshi Canna
European view

Nnoitra Jiruga is the fifth Espada, signified by the "5" tattooed to his tongue. He wears a large eye-patch that covers most of the left side of his face, as well as the remnants of his hollow mask (a small set of jawbones and teeth) and his hollow hole, both located around his left eye socket. He is very rude and lecherous, and firmly believes in male chauvinism. Nnoitra hates the idea of a woman being stronger than or outranking a man, and longs to give any woman in such a position their "deserved" inferior rank. This mindset led to his attack on Nel Tu, who frequently defeated him in battle though never killed him. He gave her amnesia and kicked her from the Espada, hoping to be stronger by the time they met again. Nnoitra longs to be able to prove his strength as the strongest Espada, and takes advantage of any weakness to achieve this end; however, he generally does not bother attacking opponents who appear unconscious or incapacitated. He does this so that he can experience the artificial high of near death experiences more often; saying the only time he feels alive is when he's gurgling on his own blood.
The question of whether Low German should be considered a separate language, as opposed to a dialect of German or Dutch, has been a point of contention. Linguistics offers no simple, generally accepted criteria to decide this question, as it is of little academic interest. However, scholarly arguments have been put forward in favour of classifying Low German as a German dialect.
In flashback conversation with Nel Tu, it is revealed that he feels indebted to Aizen for giving him the ability to push himself to his limits, referring to Aizen's ability to artificially create arrancar using the Orb of Distortion.

Having the self-proclaimed toughest skin of any Espada, Nnoitra can deflect powerful attacks without any sign of injury. He also has the ability to track and measure sources of spiritual power by touching his fingertip to the ground. His zanpakutō, , takes the form of a giant ax-like weapon bearing two crescent moon blades fused together at their backs. Its release command is "pray". When released, Nnoitra gains two additional sets of arms, and each of his hands gains an identical scythe-like weapon. He grows a pair of horns on his head, one longer on one side than the other, mimicking the crescent shape of his sealed zanpakutō. Nnoitra's wounds heal almost instantly in his released state, and he can also regenerate severed limbs.
Some such arguments are:

Nnoitra is drawn to the site of the battle between Ichigo Kurosaki once the latter has defeated Grimmjow Jeagerjaques. While he tortures the exhausted Ichigo, his companion Nel Tu returns to what is revealed to be her adult form and attacks Nnoitra to protect Ichigo. Though she almost defeats him yet again, her amnesia kicks back in and she is left at his mercy. Kenpachi Zaraki soon arrives to help them, and he and Nnoitra exchange increasingly more devastating blows, each finding great enjoyment in the fact that they can survive one another's attacks and therefore prolong the battle. However, once Zaraki realizes that death is rapidly becoming a very real possibility for him, the captain uses both hands rather than one to deliver a massive blow to the Espada. Nnoitra dies what he believes to be a "warrior's death;" his life ending a split second before his body hits the floor.
* Low German lacks any meaningful standard form regarding grammar, orthography, or other aspects, that would bridge the immense regional differences within Low German and form an equivalent to the standard forms of German, French, or other generally accepted independent languages (although Northern Low Saxon serves as a common intelligible language in TV and radio programmes);

Grimmjow Jeagerjaques
* Low German is not used widely anywhere, and especially not outside of colloquial oral communication. It is spoken on a daily basis by a small minority in Northern Germany. Use in the media is limited to small columns or segments that typically are specifically intended to foster and promote the language;
* Junichi Suwabe

Grimmjow Jeagerjaques is the sixth Espada, signified by the "6" tattooed to his back. His name stems from that of an architect named Nicholas Grimshaw. Grimmjow is very disrespectful, never using honorifics and having little respect for authority figures. He is often openly insulting to such people save for Sōsuke Aizen, and even this respect is quickly abandoned when Aizen is out of earshot. Grimmjow has an overly violent lust for battle, always seeking out the strongest opponent in a given area. He is confident in his abilities, believing himself to be equal, or even stronger than the fourth Espada, Ulquiorra Schiffer. Though he shows little regard for his allies or anyone who would get in his way, Grimmjow has some sense of honor; he rescues Orihime from two arrancar torturing her in return for healing his arm, and first has Ichigo's wounds healed before their final rematch. Grimmjow hates being looked down on, becoming infuriated beyond consolation when he feels that someone does so and has stated that he will readily crush anyone who looks down on him, be it friend or foe. The remains of his hollow mask consist of the right jawbone, and his hollow hole is located on his abdomen.
* Written Low German is used almost exclusively for belletristic literature, but not for technical documents, administrative or legal texts, etc.

Before becoming an arrancar, Grimmjow was a panther-like adjuchas-class menos who wandered Hueco Mundo. He eventually met and led a group of other hollows in their mutual quest for power. As time passed and Grimmjow became the only one who grew stronger, he ate pieces of the others' flesh so that their evolution would not regress and so he could become even stronger. These hollows later became his fracciòn. When his zanpakutō, is released with the command "grind", he regains some of his former panther appearance. He takes on more animal-like features such as jagged teeth, feline ears, clawed hands, and a tail that can be used as a powerful whip. This state augments his speed drastically and gives him animal-like agility and movements to match. His roar can create shockwaves in the air, and he can also fire a large number of "darts" from his elbows and create energy claws called Desgarrón from his fingertips.
In contrast, Old Saxon and Middle High German may have met enough of these criteria to be considered separate languages in their own rights.

Luppi
Claims to the contrary have also been made, ascribing to Low German the status of an independent language on par with German, Dutch, Danish, etc. They are often motivated by efforts to paint an uplifiting, positive picture to combat the perceived image of Low German as a dying and irrelevant idiom, and show comparatively little interest in establishing objective criteria and measuring Low German by these. Instead, they focus on different points such as:
* Daisuke Kishio

Luppi temporarily replaces Grimmjow Jeagerjaques as the sixth Espada, signified by the "6" tattooed to his right hip. He has a youthful and feminine appearance, and tends to be rather demeaning to opponents or those of lower ranks. The remains of his hollow mask (a top row of teeth) rests on the left side of his head. Luppi's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "strangle". In his released state eight tendrils sprout from a carapace mounted on Luppi's back, which he can control independently to combat a group. The tentacles can also grow spikes to cause additional damage. After Grimmjow's arm is restored, the reason for his demotion, he promptly kills Luppi to regain his rank.
* The great differences between High and Low German; these are examined as absolutes and not compared to the differences between High German and other extreme, but established dialects (such as Swiss German), or between Low German and Dutch.
* The ostensible successes of very recent efforts (in the 1980s and 1990s) to revive Low German in the media, the schools, and in language societies.

Zommari Leroux
Low German has been recognised by the Netherlands and by Germany (since 1999) as a regional language according to the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages. Within the official terminology defined in the charter, this status would not be available to a dialect of an official language (as per article 1 (a)), and hence not to Low German in Germany if it were considered a dialect of German. Advocates of the promotion of Low German have expressed considerable hope that this political development will at once lend legitimacy to their claim that Low German is a separate language and help mitigate the functional limits of the language that may still be cited as objective criteria for a mere dialect (such as the virtually complete absence from legal and administrative contexts, schools, the media, etc.).
*Taiten Kusunoki

Zommari Leroux is the seventh Espada. He is a quiet, reverent figure that praises Sōsuke Aizen and despises Soul Reapers for arbitrarily judging hollows. The remnants of his hollow mask take the form of a necklace made out of teeth and a ridge of spikes running down the center of his forehead. Zommari has the self-proclaimed fastest sonído among the Espada, referred to as . He can leave up to five afterimages in his stead when using it. His zanpakutō, , is released with the command "suppress". In his released state he gains a total of fifty eyes, each of which can be used to gain complete control of whatever or whoever they look upon; this technique is called . His legs are also replaced by a pumpkin-like structure that he can hide within as a defensive measure. When Zommari tries to avenge Aaroniero Arruruerie's death by killing Rukia Kuchiki, he is stopped and killed by her brother, Byakuya Kuchiki.

Szayel Aporro Grantz
Low German is a part of the West Germanic dialect continuum.
* Kōsuke Toriumi

Szayel Aporro Grantz is the eighth Espada. He is an intellectual and the scientist of the Espada, thinking highly of himself and following his plans down to the finest detail. He is quite sadistic and views others as little more than research material. He thinks poorly of non-hollows, and hopes that Sōsuke Aizen will someday eliminate all entities that aren't hollows. Szayel has a variety of methods for analyzing an opponent's abilities, such as studying the damage done to their former opponents. Once doing so, Szayel can nullify the effects of their abilities, making him virtually immune to their attacks. In addition to the immunities gained from studying his opponents, Szayel has his own group of subordiantes. He has personally modified each so that he can heal his wounds by eating them. Those so devoured can be recreated later. The remains of his hollow mask take the form of rectangular-framed glasses.
To the West, it blends into the Low Franconian languages which distinguish two plural verbal endings, as opposed to a common verbal plural ending in Low German.

Szayel's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "sip". In his released state, Szayel grows a pair of wings, his lower body transforms into a flock of long tentacles, and a blood-like liquid drips from all over his body. If one of these droplets comes into contact with an opponent a doppelganger of them is created that Szayel can control to use their abilities against them. By wrapping an opponent in his wings, Szayel can create voodoo dolls of them. Any damage done to the dolls' internal organs is done to the original, debilitating them from the inside. Should he be eaten, Szayel's body will fuse with its opponent's nervous system, allowing him to gain complete control of their body. The last of his many abilities, known as Gabriel, allows him to be reborn if he is injured beyond repair by impregnating an enemy. He then devours his way out of their body, killing them in the process.
To the South, it blends into the High German dialects of Central German that have been affected by the High German consonant shift. The division is usually drawn at the Benrath line that traces the maken – machen isogloss.

Szayel engages Renji Abarai and Uryū Ishida in battle, during the course of which he nullifies each of their abilities and damages them enough to be in a non-combative state. Just as he loses interest in them and is about to finish them off, Mayuri Kurotsuchi arrives to help them. Being of equal scientific and analytical ability as Szayel, Mayuri is able to render all of Szayel's abilities useless. After Mayuri kills him Szayel reconstitutes himself inside of Nemu Kurotsuchi, ingesting a large dosage of poison stored in Nemu's body in the process. This poison greatly increases his reaction time to the point where one second seems like a century to him. With his physical body unable to compensate for his over-enhanced mental state, Szayel is effectively paralyzed. Mayuri stabs him through his hand and heart and breaks the blade off, leaving Szayel to suffer for what seems as an eternity to him, while begging for a quick death.
To the East, it abuts the Kashubian language (the only remnant of the Pomeranian language) and, since the expulsion of nearly all Germans from Pomerania following the Second World War, also by the Polish language. The Low German dialects of Pomerania are included in the Pommersch group.

Aaroniero Arruruerie
To the North and Northwest, it abuts the Danish and the Frisian languages. Note that in Germany, Low German has replaced the Frisian languages in many regions. The Saterland Frisian is the only remnant of East Frisian language and is surrounded by Low German, as are the few remaining North Frisian varieties, and the Low German dialects of those regions have Frisian influences from Frisian substrates.
* Toshihiko Seki<!-- In every appearance, credit has been solely given to Toshihiko Seki. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THIS!!-->

Aaroniero Arruruerie is the ninth Espada, signified by the "9" tattooed to his two faces. He has an unusual glass capsule filled with red liquid and two floating masks in place of a head, which he usually covers with a tall white mask. The two masks tend to talk in tandem when revealed, giving the effect of two people speaking in turn. The upper mask speaks with a deep voice while the other speaks in a high-pitched, child-like voice, and appears to have a level of individuality. He is the last of the first-generation Espada. Aaroniero possesses the ability to broadcast information of whatever he is currently seeing or experiencing to other arrancar, which he does prior to his death at the hands of Rukia Kuchiki.
Some classify the northern dialects of Low German together with English, Scots and Frisian as the North Sea Germanic or Ingvaeonic languages. However, most exclude Low German from that group often called Anglo-Frisian languages because some distinctive features of that group of languages are only partially observed in Low German, for instance the Ingvaeonic nasal spirant law (some dialects have us, os for ‘us’ whereas others have uns, ons), and because other distinctive features do not occur in Low German at all, for instance the palatalization of /k/ (compare palatalized forms such as English cheese, Frisian tsiis to non-palatalized forms such as Low German Kees or Kaise, Dutch kaas, German Käse).

Aaroniero is unique in that he can absorb other hollows in their entirety, not only giving him their power but their unique abilities and memories as well. Once a hollow is absorbed in this fashion, Aaroniero can manifest any aspect of them at will, including their physical form. Through an unusual series of events, he also absorbs the Soul Reaper abilities of Kaien Shiba. The weakness of this power is sunlight, which nullifies it on contact and reveals Aaroniero's true form. Aaroniero's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "devour". It is unclear what its sealed form is, but Aaroniero seems to imply that it is a deformed tentacle-ridden appendage that replaces his left arm. In his released state the lower half of his body turns into a huge, purple, octopus-like mass with dozens of tentacles and cartoonish mouth-like mask pieces. With Glotonería released, Aaroniero can access the full range of his abilities at will, as opposed to the single ability limit imposed on him when it is sealed. While he is initially able to trick Rukia by assuming Kaien's form to break her sword, she uses her Third Dance to regenerate it through his head, shattering the glass and killing him.

What remains of his hollow mask is the jawbone, which rests on his chin. He is the largest, but not the brightest, of the Espada, as he relies upon Ulquiorra Schiffer to explain things and give him orders while in battle. Yammy relies primarily on his brute strength and cero blasts in battle, taking little interest in using his sword until he is overpowered. Aside from his fighting abilities, Yammy can suck the souls from living humans en masse using . It affects a wide area, but any individual with even slight spiritual power is able to resist it to some degree.

Privaron Espada
History
History of Low German
The were once Espada, though after Aizen acquired the Hōgyoku they were demoted in favor of his own artificially-created arrancar.
Old Saxon
Old Saxon
Old Saxon, also known as Old Low German, is a West Germanic language. It is documented from the 9th century until the 12th century, when it evolved into Middle Low German. It was spoken on the north-west coast of Germany and in Denmark by Saxon peoples. It is closely related to Old Anglo-Frisian (Old Frisian, Old English), partially participating in the Ingvaeonic nasal spirant law.

Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio
Only a few texts survive, predominantly in baptismal vows the Saxons were required to perform at the behest of Charlemagne. The only literary texts preserved are Heliand and the Old Saxon Genesis.
* Kōji Ishii

Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio is more goofy when compared to other Espada, being similar to Don Kanonji. He is much more serious in battle, however. During his battle with Ichigo Kurosaki, Dordonii tries to goad Ichigo into using his bankai and hollow mask, hoping to earn his former position back by defeating Ichigo at full power. He is defeated once Ichigo complies, and thanks Ichigo for the favor by fighting against the Exequias to buy Ichigo time to escape. He is implied to have been killed by the Exequias. Dordonii's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "whirl". In his released state, Dordonii grows armor that starts at his feet, wraps around his calves, and juts out at his waist with two more spikes. While released, two enormous cyclones come from exhaust spouts on the armor covering his legs, which keeps him hovering in the air and add extra force to his kicks. In addition, two beak-like extensions jut out from these cyclones, which are used to execute long-range strikes, though Dordonii is also capable of manifesting many more if the need arises.
Middle Low German
Middle Low German
The Middle Low German language is an ancestor of modern Low German. It was spoken from about 1100 to 1500. The neighbour languages within the dialect continuum of the West Germanic languages were Middle Dutch in the West and Middle High German in the South, later substituted by Early New High German. Middle Low German was the lingua franca of the Hanseatic League, spoken all around the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Based on the language of Lübeck, a standardized written language was developing, though it was never codified.

Contemporary
Cirucci Thunderwitch
* Hōko Kuwashima

Cirucci Thunderwitch has an unusual sense of style; her outfit consists of a frilly dress, large poofy sleeves that cut off at her shoulder, short purple-colored hair, teardrop markings on each cheek, and knee-high boots. The remains of her hollow mask are positioned in her hair right above the left side of her forehead and resemble a spiked hairpin. Despite her rather odd appearance, she has no qualms about pointing out when others have similar fashion, as she does to Uryū Ishida. After Uryū defeats her, she is implied to have been killed by the Exequias. Cirucci's zanpakutō, , takes the form of a whip with a large, spinning, Yo-Yo like disk looped into it. When released with the command "rip off", Cirucci sprouts large wings with ten moon-shaped blades in place of feathers. These blades vibrate at a high frequency, making an audible humming noise in the anime. Cirucci can remove these blades and fire them through the air or summon them back at her own will. Her arms also become long and she gains sharp claws on each hand, and she forms a long, thick tail. Her released state rapidly consumes her spiritual energy, but she can get around this problem by ripping off her wings and long claws, instead fighting with an energy blade at the tip of her tail.
After mass education in Germany in the 19th and 20th century the slow decline which Low German was experiencing since the end of the Hanseatic league turned into a free fall. Today efforts are made in Germany and in the Netherlands to protect Low German as a regional language. Various Low German dialects are understood by 10 million people, and native to about 3 million people all around northern Germany. Most of these speakers are located in rural villages and are often elderly. However, the KDE project supports Low German (nds) as a language for its computer desktop environment.

Gantenbainne Mosqueda
Sound change
* Masato Funaki
As with the Anglo-Frisian languages and the North Germanic languages, Low German has not been influenced by the High German consonant shift except for old /ð/ having shifted to /d/. Therefore a lot of Low German words sound similar to their English counterparts. One feature that does distinguish Low German from English is final devoicing of obstruents, as exemplified by the words 'good' and 'wind' below. This is a characteristic of Dutch and German as well and involves positional neutralization of voicing contrast in the coda position for obstruents (i.e. t = d at the end of a syllable.)

Gantenbainne Mosqueda has an afro-style haircut with thick sideburns and a goatee. The remains of his hollow mask are a sunglasses-shaped plate on his forehead with four teeth coming out above each eye. After he is defeated by Yasutora Sado, Gantenbainne is spared in thanks for fighting with all of his strength. As Chad leaves, Gantenbainne warns him of an approaching Nnoitra Jiruga who easily silences him with one hit. After Chad is also defeated, both he and Gantenbainne are found by the Exequias. Retsu Unohana intervenes before they can be killed and heals their wounds. Gantenbainne's zanpakutō, , takes the form of a pair of two-pronged punching daggers attached to Gantenbainne's wrists by hinges. In its released state, Gantenbainne's arms grow longer and become covered in dome-shaped armor plates, and the punching daggers come to resemble dragon heads. Similar plates also extend down his back and form a tail. He pulls his mask fragment over his eyes at certain points in combat. When attacking, he can shoot various blasts from his fists. His strongest attack involves him gathering and concentrating energy from his tail tip to his fists and firing a large blast. Dragra does not appear to have a release command; Gantenbainne simply releases it by saying its name.
For instance: water [wɒtɜ, watɜ, wætɜ], later [lɒːtɜ, laːtɜ, læːtɜ], bit [bɪt], dish [dis, diʃ], ship [ʃɪp, skɪp, sxɪp], pull [pʊl], good [gout, ɣɑut, ɣuːt], clock [klɔk], sail [sɑil], he [hɛi, hɑi, hi(j)], storm [stoːrm], wind [vɪˑnt], grass [gras, ɣras], hold [hoˑʊl(t)], old [oˑʊl(t)].

Other
Low German is a West Germanic language of the lowlands and as such did not experience the High German consonant shift. The table below shows the relationship between English and Low German consonants which were unaffected by this chain shift and gives the modern German counterparts, which were affected by the sound shift.
The following are those arrancar that have never received a position as an Espada. Most are , foot soldiers sent to do Aizen's bidding or to fight alongside the Espada. Others are , subordinates that directly serve a specific Espada.

Grand Fisher is, when first introduced, a hollow that has evaded the Soul Reapers for over fifty years. During this timeframe he killed Masaki Kurosaki in her efforts to protect her son, Ichigo Kurosaki. Grand Fisher's hollow form resembles that of a giant hamster with bird-like hands and feet. A "lure" (similar to those of angler fish) hangs from his forehead, which can take the form of anyone he wishes. He typically uses this ability to lure spiritually aware people into his grasp, making them easy meals (hence his name). In battle the lure can be used to take the form of someone close to the opponent, keeping them from attacking him. This lure also serves as a second body in case his larger one is wounded and needs to recuperate. After Ichigo is able to defeat Grand Fisher in battle he is converted into an imperfect arrancar, giving his hollow-form a more humanoid appearance. He carries a large zanpakutō on his back, which when released transforms him into a huge, monstrous creature with bull-like horns. When he tries to use this form to have a rematch with Ichigo, he is killed by Ichigo's father, Isshin Kurosaki.
Note: The words shown are phonetic cognates. The semantic values of some of these words have shifted over time. For example, the correct equivalent term for "wife" in modern Dutch and German is vrouw and Frau respectively; using wijf or Weib for a human is considered archaic in German and derogatory in Dutch, comparable to "bitch". There is no phonetic equivalent to Frau/vrouw in English.

Grammar
Rudobōn
* Taro Yamaguchi
Generally speaking, Low German grammar shows similarities with the grammars of Dutch, Frisian, English and Scots, but the dialects of Northern Germany share some features (especially lexical and syntactic features) with German dialects.

Rudobōn is the leader of the , a group responsible for dealing with rebels and intruders in Las Noches. Unlike most arrancar, his face is hidden. He carries a zanpakutō, but its name and released state have not been revealed. He and his subordinates clean up after each battle, collecting data for Szayel Aporro Grantz before killing any survivors: they kill two of the three Privaron Espada off screen for failing to beat their opponents, and prepare to do the same with the third before being stopped by Retsu Unohana. Surprised by the arrival of a Soul Reaper captain, Rudobōn and the rest of the Exequias withdraw in order to avoid conflict. Later he and the rest of the Exequias attempt to bar the progress of Ichigo, but they are intercepted by attacks from Ichigo's comrades.
Nouns
Low German declension has only three morphologically marked noun cases, where accusative and dative together constitute an objective case.

Shawlong Qufang
Dative dän
Shawlong Qufang is an intellectual, or at least an analyst, able to confidently state the nature of his opponent's powers. What remains of his mask is on the top of his head, but a portion drops down covering part of his face. Before becoming arrancar, Shawlong was a member of a group led by Grimmjow Jeagerjaques that scoured Hueco Mundo in search of power. When Grimmjow eventually became the only one who continued to gain strength, Shawlong and the others offered themselves to Grimmjow so he would get stronger and so they would not regress. They worked for Grimmjow once he became an Espada, and in his service Shawlong is killed by Tōshirō Hitsugaya. Shawlong's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "snip". When released, Shawlong grows armor covering his arms and upper chest with his hands transforming into long claws, his mask extends down to cover the left side of his face and his queue becomes a tail with claws.
In most modern dialects, the nominative and the objective cases are primarily distinguished only in the singular of masculine nouns. In some Low German dialects, the genitive case is distinguished as well (e.g. varieties of Mennonite Low German.) It is marked in the masculine gender by changing the masculine definite determiner 'de' from de to dän. By contrast, German distinguishes four cases; nominative, accusative, genitive, and dative. So, for example, the definite article of the masculine singular has the forms: der (nom), den (acc), des (gen), and dem (dat.) Thus case marking in Low German is simpler than German's.

Verbs
Edorad Leones
* Taiten Kusunoki
In Low German verbs are conjugated for person, number and tense. Verb conjugation for person is only differentiated in the singular. There are five tenses in Low German: Present tense, Preterite, Perfect, and Pluperfect and in Mennonite Low German the Present Perfect which signifies a remaining effect from a past finished action. For example 'Ekj sie jekomen'-'I am come'-means that the speaker came and he is still at the place to which he came as a result of his completed action.

has a high amount of pride as an arrancar, as he is ashamed to draw his zanpakutō against an enemy. The remains of his hollow mask are merely the eye holes, which rest on his nose, and it essentially looks as if he wears unusual glasses. Despite his large, brutish appearance, he is a skilled tactician; he recognizes that Ikkaku Madarame fights him for sport, something he personally despises. Before becoming arrancar, Edorad and Shawlong Koufang were members of a group led by Grimmjow Jeagerjaques that scoured Hueco Mundo in search of power. They worked for Grimmjow once he became an Espada, and in his service Edorad is killed by Ikkaku. Edorad's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "erupt". When Volcanica is released, his mask disappears and his arms are covered in what looks like volcanic rock, becoming much longer and wider in the process. An exhaust spout is located on each shoulder. He is able to shoot fire from his fists in this form.

Ilfort Grantz
Unlike Dutch, German and southern Low German, the northern dialects form the participle without the prefix ge-, like the Scandinavian languages and English. Compare to the German past participle geschlafen. This past participle is formed with the auxiliary verb hebben 'to have'. It should be noted that e- is used instead of ge- in most Southern (below Groningen in the Netherlands) dialects, though often not when the past participle ends with -en or in a few often used words like west (been).
* Kōichi Tōchika

Ilfort Grantz is the sarcastic, effeminate older brother of Szayel Aporro Grantz. What remains of his hollow mask is on the top of his head, and looks like a broken helmet. Before becoming an arrancar, Ilfort was a member of a group led by Grimmjow Jeagerjaques that scoured Hueco Mundo in search of power. They worked for Grimmjow once he became an Espada, and in his service Ilfort is killed by Renji Abarai. Ilforte's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "skewer". When Del Toro is released, Ilfort's upper body enlarges and is covered in bull-like armor, while his mask seems to completely regenerate, giving him horns. In this form, he walks on four legs and uses his horns to skewer opponents.
The reason for the two conjugations shown in the plural is regional: dialects in the central area use -t while the dialects in East Frisia and the dialects in Mecklenburg and further east use -en. The -en suffix is of Dutch influence.

D-Roy
In Mennonite Low German, some verbs inflect into two moods: Indicative and Imperative. For the verb 'jäwen'-to give,for example, the Imperative form is 'jefs'.
* Takashi Kondō

D-Roy is the weakest of his group of arrancar. This has been the case since his days as a hollow, wherein part of his mask was eaten by Grimmjow Jeagerjaques and his growth was brought to an end. His hollow mask remains are bulky and similar in shape to a hammerhead shark. The right-hand side of his mask is wrapped in bandages, which obscures his right eye and cover the damage he received from Grimmjow. Despite his history with Grimmjow, D-Roy worked for him when he became an Espada and in his service is killed by Rukia Kuchiki. He dies before he has a chance to release his zanpakutō, or even draw it.
There are 26 verb affixes.

Nakim
* Taketora

is a fat, silent arrancar, his only significant speech being an answer to a question shortly before his death. The remains of his hollow mask cover the entire right side of his face. Before becoming arrancar, Nakim and Shawlong Koufang were members of a group led by Grimmjow Jeagerjaques that scoured Hueco Mundo in search of power. They worked for Grimmjow once he became an Espada, and in his service Nakim is killed by Rangiku Matsumoto. Very little of his battle is seen; at one point he is shown to have grown large enough to crush Matsumoto under his foot, though it is unclear if this was an effect of his zanpakutō.

Wonderweiss Margera is an Espada-level arrancar. Wonderweiss is small, thin, and somewhat child-like. What is left of his hollow mask remains on top of his head, and resembles a tiara or small crown. Wonderweiss's personality is also child-like and even autistic; when sent on a mission to kill, he instead plays around with a dragonfly. He shows some hostility during this instance, firing a retaliatory bala energy blast toward Urahara at one point, but quickly reverts back to his regular state after doing so. He isn't able to speak clearly, only saying a few syllables at a time. Kaname Tōsen says that Wonderweiss, like himself, is a pure being (though he makes a point of wondering whether he is pure good or evil). He follows Tōsen everywhere when possible and is hostile to what he perceives as Tōsen's enemies The name and released state of Wonderweiss's zanpakutō have not been revealed.

Pesche Guatiche is a fairly harmless, humanoid arrancar whose body is covered in a sort of light armor, complete with a mask resembling an insectoid head with a large pair of mandibles. His hollow hole is positioned near his stomach. He was once Nel Tu's Fracción, but after his mask fragment was forcefully removed by Nnoitra Jiruga and Nel received amnesia, he accompanied her around Hueco Mundo to keep her safe. Years later, when Nel accompanies a group of humans, Pesche follows her into Las Noches. He starts following Uryū Ishida, having mistaken him for Ichigo Kurosaki, which upsets him because Uryū's appearance leads him to believe that he is the weakest of the group. Pesche possesses an ability he calls , in which he sprays his saliva at an object, severely reducing its friction. Contrary to its name, it is of limited supply, "Finite Slick" having been an uninteresting name. He carries an energy sword he calls inside his loincloth, but it is unclear if it is his zanpakutō.
Writing system
Low German is written using the Latin alphabet. There is no true standard orthography, only several locally more or less accepted orthographic guidelines, those in the Netherlands mostly based on Dutch orthography, and those in Germany mostly based on German orthography. This diversity—being the result of centuries of official neglect and suppression—has a very fragmenting and thus weakening effect on the language as a whole, since it has created barriers that do not exist on the spoken level. Interregional and international communication is severely hampered by this. Most of these systems aim at representing the phonetic (allophonic) output rather than underlying (phonemic) representations. Furthermore, many writers follow guidelines only roughly. This adds numerous idiosyncratic and often inconsistent ways of spelling to the already existing great orthographic diversity.

Dondochakka Bilstin is a large, spotted humanoid arrancar with a tiki mask and compound eyes. Despite his menacing appearance, he is prone to tear-filled outbursts at the slightest provocation, usually when he's worried about something. He frequently inserts the phrase "don'tcha know" in his speech. He was once Nel Tu's Fracción, but after his mask fragment was forcefully removed by Nnoitra Jiruga and Nel received amnesia, he accompanied her around Hueco Mundo to keep her safe. Dondochakka possesses numerous insect spirits within his stomach (one being Bawabawa). He can spit these spirits out at will as allies in combat. In addition, he carries a kanabō inside his stomach, but it is unclear if this is his zanpakutō.

Tesla is the sole Fracción of Nnoitra Jiruga. He seems to idolize Nnoitra to some degree, shielding him from an attack despite receiving criticism for doing so. Tesla even wears an eyepatch over his right eye in honor of Nnoitra. The remains of his hollow mask appear to be a thin upper jaw which forms a circlet around his forehead. Tesla's zanpakutō, , is released with the command "crush". In its sealed state a chakram is embedded above the hilt, which can be solidified to act as a shield. When released, Tesla becomes a large, warthog-like creature. His eyepatch disappears in this form, revealing a large scar over his right eye. His released state gives him superhuman strength but is apparently lacking in any sort of defense, as Kenpachi Zaraki delivers him a mortal blow in this state with no effort at all.

Organizations:
Charlotte Cuuhlhourne considers himself Barragan's best fracción. Charlotte's mannerisms and dress border on those of a stereotypical drag queen. He has long, wavy black hair and wears clothes with feminine motifs. His mask is the shape of a tiara with horns. Charlotte believes beauty is derived from a person's heart and personality, leading the first part of his battle with Yumichika Ayasegawa to be little more than the two shouting insults at each other. Charlotte's zanpakutō is named . Its release command is "sparkle". ====Abirama Redder====
If your organisation isn't listed here, feel free to add it.
Abirama Redder is another of Barragan's fracción; he is the one sent to deal with Izuru Kira. His overall appearance is reminiscent of a Native American Brave, having long black hair and tattoos which cover his upper body, and sleeves that cover his arms up to his elbows in place of the regular Arrancar outfit; the remnants of his mask form a bird-like helmet atop his head. He is extremely violent and impatient, with a personality similar to that of Kenpachi Zaraki. Before he engages his opponent he performs a "ritual" in which he screams all the things he is going to do to his opponent at the top of his lungs. He takes this very seriously and becomes infuriated when Kira refuses to participate. Abirama's zanpakutō is named . Its release command is "scalp". When in released form, Abirama's head becomes similar to that of an eagle, his hands and feet become talons, and two wings appear on his back which constantly hurl large quantities of feathers at the enemy. These feathers are made of steel, allowing them to easily crush targets on which they fall, and regenerate rapidly after being tossed. He has an additional ability to split his wings into two pairs for increased maneuverability, triggered by slicing along his chest tattoos with his claws. Abirama's abilites prove to be a double-edged sword: his heavy wings are very susceptible to Izuru Kira's zanpakutō. Unable to move, he is beheaded by Kira.

Findor Carias
Writers:
Findor Carias is the thinnest of Barragan's fracción, and is sent to deal with Shūhei Hisagi. The remains of his hollow mask resemble a helmet, covering the entire top half of his head down to his nose, as well as his covering his chin with its lower jaw. He can use his mask to perform a seemingly unique technique: by chiseling off pieces of the mask, he is able to increase his strength. According to Findor himself, the strength increase he gains with each successive chiseling is roughly equal to the difference in power between the seats of a Soul Reaper division. With his mask unchiseled, he fights at the level of a fifth seat. Findor's zanpakutō is named and is released by the command "engrave the surface of the water". It takes the form of claws (one large and one small) on his arms, resembling a fiddler crab in appearance, as well as armor that covers the right side of his body. In this form, Findor can emit powerful pressurized water streams from his larger claw. Findor attempts to flee after Shūhei destroys his larger claw but is killed.

Pō
Musicians:
Pō is the largest of Barragan's fracción, towering over even Sajin Komamura, the tallest Soul Reaper in the 13 Court Guards. The remains of Pō's mask form a two pronged chin piece that resembles a beard, and he has green triangular markings on either of his cheeks. He initially appears quiet and reverent, but becomes much more arrogant and defiant after beating Ikkaku Madarame to a pulp. He not only defeated Ikkaku, but also destroyed one of the four towers that supported the fake Karakura. Pō's zanpakutō appears to be similar to a kodachi or tantō, although its actual length is difficult to discern due to Pō's own massive size. It is called and is released with the command "breathe". When released, Pō's entire body begins to swell, and he balloons into a massive creature with the overall shape and structure of a blue whale, including blue whale grooves in his arms. He claims the true power of his already-strong punches is manifested in this form, though he becomes extremely lazy and overconfident when he uses it. After failing to smash his enemies, he attempts to launch a cero at them from out of his mouth, but, before he can finish, he is crushed beneath the massive sword of Captain Komamura's bankai.

Revision as of 01:11, 10 October 2008

Template:AM-in-universe This is a list of characters in the anime and manga series Bleach who are hollows (虚(ホロウ), horō).

Hollows crave other human souls, living or dead, to fill their empty hearts and ease their pain, starting with the persons it loved the most in its past life.[1] They reside in Hueco Mundo when they're not scouring the human world for souls to consume. They will continue to search for and consume souls until they are slain by a Soul Reaper, at which point their souls are purified and they are allowed to pass on to Soul Society.

Some hollows have an unusually strong thirst for souls which leads them to consume other hollows. These hollows gather naturally, fighting to the death, and finally merging with one another, evolving into stronger and more intelligent forms known as menos (メノス, menosu, Spanish for "minus" or "less"). Within the menos, there are three levels of evolution. The first of these is the gillian (最下大虚(ギリアン), girian, Japanese for "least of the great hollows"), large and powerful but possessing very low intelligence and no individuality, the result of the merging of hundreds of hollows. In the rare case a gillian retains its consciousness, it can continue to consume other gillians and eventually evolve into an adjuchas (中級大虚(アジューカス), ajūkasu, Japanese for "intermediate great hollow"), gaining a smaller body and superior strength, speed and intelligence, compared to their previous form. From there, some adjuchas have the potential to evolve into a vasto lorde (最上大虚(ヴァストローデ), vasuto rōde, Spanish for "enormous king"). Vasto lorde are more humanoid in size and appearance and possess battle strength comparable or superior to a Soul Reaper captain, to the point where captain Tōshirō Hitsugaya speculates that Soul Society would be doomed if Sōsuke Aizen managed to get ten vasto lorde under his command.[2][3][4][5]

As hollows evolve they gain access to unique skills and abilities, fueled by the souls they have consumed. The most basic of these abilities is Cero (虚閃(セロ), Sero, Japanese for "hollow flash," Spanish for "zero", labeled as "Doom Blast" in the Viz manga), high-powered energy blasts that can be fired from various body parts, such as the mouth or hand. There are at least two additional variants of the cero, which are more powerful and faster than normal ceros, though less commonly used.

Hollows

Almost all antagonists in Bleach are, by definition, categorized as hollows. The following are those hollows that have not attained the further classification of arrancar. Many of the hollows shown in the series have few, if any, speaking lines and are killed shortly after their introduction.

Bawabawa

Bawabawa (バワバワ) is a giant, eel-like hollow whose mask consists of a simple plate on his head with a pair of horns. Dondochakka later reveals that Bawabawa is stored inside his stomach along with other combat-based insects.[6] Despite his fearsome appearance, Bawabawa is actually rather emotional and not evil, but will fight if necessary.

Arrancar

Arrancar (アランカル, arankaru, Spanish for "to rip off") are hollows that have had their masks almost completely removed and have gained the powers of a Soul Reaper. In the process they gain a human appearance and strength, speed and intelligence beyond the level of a simple hollow as well as hierro (鋼皮(イエロ), iero, Japanese for ”steel skin,” Spanish for ”iron”), skin so hard they can fight swords bare-handed. Arrancar become major antagonists during the second half of the series as they start being led by Sōsuke Aizen who uses the Hōgyoku to create and perfect the arrancars. According to Tite Kubo, many of the arrancar are named after real life architects and designers.[7]

Like Soul Reapers, arrancar possess zanpakutō (斬魄刀, lit. soul-cutting sword). Unlike Soul Reapers, whose zanpakutō are manifestations of their owner's soul, arrancar's zanpakutō are manifestations of their former hollow selves. With occasional exceptions, an arrancar's zanpakutō resembles a regular sword in its sealed state. When released through a process called resurrección (帰刃(レスレクシオン), resurekushion, Japanese for "returning blade," Spanish for "resurrection"), part of their original hollow form is restored, changing their appearance, giving them greater strength, and granting them access to their original abilities.

Espada

The Espada.
Top row: Nnoitra, Barragan, Grimmjow, Aaroniero, Halibel.
Bottom row: Yammy, Stark, Ulquiorra, Szayel Aporro, Zommari.

The Espada (十刃(エスパーダ), Esupāda, Japanese for "ten blades," Spanish for "sword") are the ten strongest arrancar in Sōsuke Aizen's army. They are ranked in order of their strength. The members are listed according to their known rank. The first three hold the top three ranks although their specific ranks haven't been revealed.

Stark

 • Voiced by: Rikiya Koyama

Stark (スターク, Sutāku) appears to be very lazy; he is seen sleeping when the Espada learn of Aaroniero Arruruerie's death, and does not appear overly concerned by the news. Lilinette (リリネット, Ririnetto), his young female Fracción, typically shows the concern that Stark does not.[8] When he is shown to be serious, however, his personality changes completely; he comes off as reluctant but nonetheless willing to do what needs to be done to complete the task at hand. He almost seems to be the Espada equivalent of Captain Kyoraku. The remains of Stark's hollow mask consist of a bottom jaw that is positioned like a necklace. His hollow hole is on his sternum, right below the tip of his mask. While his combat abilities have not been shown, he is at the least very fast, as he manages to kidnap Orihime Inoue while Kenpachi Zaraki and Ichigo Kurosaki are only a few feet away.[9]

Halibel

 • Voiced by: Megumi Ogata

Halibel (ハリベル, Hariberu) is the only current female Espada. She is very calm and rarely speaks, and when she does it's fairly serious, such as when she tells her three female Fracción Apache (アパッチ, Apacchi), Mila Rose (ミラ・ローズ, Mira Rōzu), and Sun-Sun (スンスン, Sunsun) that being afraid of an Espada's released form is a natural reaction.

Barragan Luisenbarn

 • Voiced by: Shōzō Iizuka

Barragan Luisenbarn (バラガン・ルイゼンバーン, Baragan Ruizenbān) is a stout, older, and grumpy arrancar. The remnant of his mask takes the form of a five-pointed crown. He bears large visible scars on the left side of his chin and across his right eye, and wears a large rope-like sash with a sun-crested buckler attached to it in addition to the regular obi sash. He appears to hold a position of power over the other Espada, or at the very least thinks somewhat highly of himself, as he begins giving orders from a skull-adorned throne once Aizen is trapped, instructing Halibel "not to underestimate him." [10] He has six Fracción: Charlotte Cuuhlhourne, Abirama Redder, Findor Carias, Pō, and two who have yet to be named.

Neliel Tu Oderschvank

File:NellTu.jpg
Nel in her child and adult forms.

 • Voiced by: Tomoko Kaneda

Neliel Tu Oderschvank (ネリエル・トゥ・オーデルシュヴァンク, Nerieru Tu Ōderushuvanku), commonly known as Nel Tu (ネル・トゥ, Neru Tu),[11] is a good-natured, child-like arrancar when first introduced. A large "3" tattooed on her back indicates that she was previously the third Espada.[12] Tired of her superiority over him, Nnoitra Jiruga snuck up on and attacked Nel in the past, causing her to turn into her child-form, giving her amnesia, and allowing him to expel her from the Espada.

In her child-state, Nel's vomit (which she believes to be saliva) acts as a rather weak, but useful, healing agent. In both her child and adult form, she can swallow cero attacks and fire them back. In her adult form, she can also add her own cero to this blast, doubling its power. Nel's zanpakutō, which manifests when she transforms, is named Gamuza (羚騎士(ガミューサ), Gamyūsa, Spanish for "chamois," Japanese for "antelope knight"). Its release command is "declare" (謳え, utae).[13] Her released form is that of a ibex-like centaur with longer curved horns, a thick tail, and armor over her shoulders and hands.

Ulquiorra Schiffer

 • Voiced by: Daisuke Namikawa

Ulquiorra Schiffer (ウルキオラ・シファー, Urukiora Shifā) is the fourth Espada, signified by the "4" tattooed to his chest. His name stems from that of a furniture designer named Patricia Urquiola.[7] He has a largely stoic appearance, rarely even changing his facial expression, and does not allow the actions of others to impede the tasks set to him by Sōsuke Aizen. He will attack his comrades to get them to pay attention to him, and deems anyone he does not find of particular interest to be "trash" and therefore expendable.[14] The remainder of Ulquiorra's hollow mask forms a broken helmet with a curved horn and rests on the left half of his head. His hollow hole has moved since his first appearance; when first introduced it is at the base of his neck,[15] but in later appearances it has been moved onto his chest.[16]

Though Ulquiorra has yet to fight with his full power, he has displayed a number of unique tendencies. He usually keeps his hands in his pockets when in a combat situation, only bringing them out to deflect attacks. Grimmjow Jeagerjaques notes that he tends to stab opponents in the chest, the same location as his hollow hole, whenever he is particularly interested in a battle, though it is unclear if Ulquiorra is conscious of this habit.[17] He is very analytical; he almost accurately theorizes the means behind Orihime Inoue's abilities, and recognizes that Ichigo Kurosaki's power constantly fluctuates between comparatively very weak and far stronger than his own.[18] He also seems to refrain from killing a person unless necessary, twice sparing Ichigo and proclaiming he would not harm Orihime because he had not been ordered to. He can replay events he has seen to others by removing and crushing his left eye, which then turns into dust and flows around those Ulquiorra is relaying information to.[19] Ulquiorra is a firm believer in absolute materialism and has stated that what his eye cannot see does not exist. The name and released state of Ulquiorra's zanpakutō have not been revealed. Aizen leaves Ulquiorra command over Las Noches when he invades the false Karakura Town [20]

Nnoitra Jiruga

 • Voiced by: Nobutoshi Canna

Nnoitra Jiruga (ノイトラ・ジルガ, Noitora Jiruga) is the fifth Espada, signified by the "5" tattooed to his tongue. Nnoitra longs to be able to prove his strength as the strongest Espada, and takes advantage of any weakness to achieve this end; however, he generally does not bother attacking opponents who appear unconscious or incapacitated.[21] He does this so that he can experience the artificial high of near death experiences more often; saying the only time he feels alive is when he's gurgling on his own blood. [22] In flashback conversation with Nel Tu, it is revealed that he feels indebted to Aizen for giving him the ability to push himself to his limits, referring to Aizen's ability to artificially create arrancar using the Orb of Distortion.

Having the self-proclaimed toughest skin of any Espada, Nnoitra can deflect powerful attacks without any sign of injury.[23] He also has the ability to track and measure sources of spiritual power by touching his fingertip to the ground.[24][25] His zanpakutō, Santa Teresa (聖哭螳螂(サンタテレサ), Spanish alternative name for Mantis religiosa, Japanese for "sacred crying mantis"), takes the form of a giant ax-like weapon bearing two crescent moon blades fused together at their backs. Its release command is "pray" (祈れ, inore). When released, Nnoitra gains two additional sets of arms, and each of his hands gains an identical scythe-like weapon.[26] He grows a pair of horns on his head, one longer on one side than the other, mimicking the crescent shape of his sealed zanpakutō. Nnoitra's wounds heal almost instantly in his released state, and he can also regenerate severed limbs.[27]

Grimmjow Jeagerjaques

 • Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe

Grimmjow Jeagerjaques (グリムジョー・ジャガージャック, Gurimujō Jagājakku) is the sixth Espada, signified by the "6" tattooed to his back. His name stems from that of an architect named Nicholas Grimshaw.[7] Grimmjow is very disrespectful, never using honorifics and having little respect for authority figures. He is often openly insulting to such people save for Sōsuke Aizen, and even this respect is quickly abandoned when Aizen is out of earshot. Grimmjow has an overly violent lust for battle, always seeking out the strongest opponent in a given area. He is confident in his abilities, believing himself to be equal, or even stronger than the fourth Espada, Ulquiorra Schiffer.[28] Though he shows little regard for his allies or anyone who would get in his way, Grimmjow has some sense of honor; he rescues Orihime from two arrancar torturing her in return for healing his arm, and first has Ichigo's wounds healed before their final rematch.[29] Grimmjow hates being looked down on, becoming infuriated beyond consolation when he feels that someone does so and has stated that he will readily crush anyone who looks down on him, be it friend or foe. The remains of his hollow mask consist of the right jawbone, and his hollow hole is located on his abdomen.

When his zanpakutō, Pantera (豹王(パンテラ), Spanish for "panther," Japanese for "panther king") is released with the command "grind" (軋れ, kishire), he regains some of his former panther appearance.[30] He takes on more animal-like features such as jagged teeth, feline ears, clawed hands, and a tail that can be used as a powerful whip.[31] This state augments his speed drastically and gives him animal-like agility and movements to match. His roar can create shockwaves in the air, and he can also fire a large number of "darts" from his elbows and create energy claws called Desgarrón (豹王の爪(デスガロン), Spanish for "laceration," Japanese for "panther king's claw") from his fingertips.

Luppi

 • Voiced by: Daisuke Kishio

Luppi (ルピ, Rupi)[32] temporarily replaces Grimmjow Jeagerjaques as the sixth Espada, signified by the "6" tattooed to his right hip. He has a youthful and feminine appearance, and tends to be rather demeaning to opponents or those of lower ranks. The remains of his hollow mask (a top row of teeth) rests on the left side of his head. Luppi's zanpakutō, Trepadora (蔦嬢(トレパドーラ), Torepadōra, Spanish for "climber," Japanese for "ivy girl"), is released with the command "strangle" (縊れ, kubire).[33] In his released state eight tendrils sprout from a carapace mounted on Luppi's back, which he can control independently to combat a group. The tentacles can also grow spikes to cause additional damage. After Grimmjow's arm is restored, the reason for his demotion, he promptly kills Luppi to regain his rank.

Zommari Leroux

 • Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki

Zommari Leroux (ゾマリ・ルルー, Zomari Rurū) is the seventh Espada. He is a quiet, reverent figure that praises Sōsuke Aizen and despises Soul Reapers for arbitrarily judging hollows. The remnants of his hollow mask take the form of a necklace made out of teeth and a ridge of spikes running down the center of his forehead. Zommari has the self-proclaimed fastest sonído among the Espada, referred to as Gemelos Sonído (双児響転 (ヘメロス・ソニード), Hemerosu Sonīdo, Spanish for "sound twins"). He can leave up to five afterimages in his stead when using it. His zanpakutō, Brujería (呪眼僧伽(ブルヘリア), Buruheria, Spanish for "witchcraft," Japanese for "sangha of bewitching eyes"), is released with the command "suppress" (鎮まれ, shizumare). In his released state he gains a total of fifty eyes, each of which can be used to gain complete control of whatever or whoever they look upon; this technique is called Amor (愛 (アモル), Amoru, Spanish and Japanese for "Love").

 • Voiced by: Kōsuke Toriumi

Szayel Aporro Grantz (ザエルアポロ・グランツ, Zaeruaporo Gurantsu) is the eighth Espada.

Szayel's zanpakutō, Fornicarás (邪淫妃(フォルニカラス), Forunikarasu, Spanish for "You will fornicate," Japanese for "Lewd concubine"), is released with the command "sip" (啜れ, susure).[34] In his released state, Szayel grows a pair of wings, his lower body transforms into a flock of long tentacles, and a blood-like liquid drips from all over his body. The last of his many abilities, known as Gabriel (受胎告知(ガブリエール), Gaburiēru), allows him to be reborn if he is injured beyond repair by impregnating an enemy. He then devours his way out of their body, killing them in the process.

This poison greatly increases his reaction time to the point where one second seems like a century to him.[35] With his physical body unable to compensate for his over-enhanced mental state, Szayel is effectively paralyzed. Mayuri stabs him through his hand and heart and breaks the blade off, leaving Szayel to suffer for what seems as an eternity to him, while begging for a quick death.

Aaroniero Arruruerie

 • Voiced by: Toshihiko Seki

Aaroniero Arruruerie (アーロニーロ・アルルエリ, Āronīro Arurueri)[36] is the ninth Espada, signified by the "9" tattooed to his two faces. He is the last of the first-generation Espada.[37] Aaroniero possesses the ability to broadcast information of whatever he is currently seeing or experiencing to other arrancar,[38] which he does prior to his death at the hands of Rukia Kuchiki.

Aaroniero is unique in that he can absorb other hollows in their entirety, not only giving him their power but their unique abilities and memories as well. Once a hollow is absorbed in this fashion, Aaroniero can manifest any aspect of them at will, including their physical form.[39] Through an unusual series of events, he also absorbs the Soul Reaper abilities of Kaien Shiba. The weakness of this power is sunlight, which nullifies it on contact and reveals Aaroniero's true form.[40] Aaroniero's zanpakutō, Glotonería (喰虚(グロトネリア), Gurotoneria, Spanish for "gluttony," Japanese for "eating hollow"), is released with the command "devour" (喰い尽くせ, kuitsukuse).[41] It is unclear what its sealed form is, but Aaroniero seems to imply that it is a deformed tentacle-ridden appendage that replaces his left arm. In his released state the lower half of his body turns into a huge, purple, octopus-like mass with dozens of tentacles and cartoonish mouth-like mask pieces. With Glotonería released, Aaroniero can access the full range of his abilities at will, as opposed to the single ability limit imposed on him when it is sealed.[42] While he is initially able to trick Rukia by assuming Kaien's form to break her sword, she uses her Third Dance to regenerate it through his head, shattering the glass and killing him.

Yammy

 • Voiced by: Kenji Nomura

Yammy (ヤミー, Yamī)[43] is the tenth Espada, signified by the "10" tattooed to his left shoulder. Aside from his fighting abilities, Yammy can suck the souls from living humans en masse using gonzui (魂吸(ゴンズイ), Japanese for "soul suction"). It affects a wide area, but any individual with even slight spiritual power is able to resist it to some degree.

Privaron Espada

File:Privaronespada.JPG
Gantenbainne (left), Dordonii (top), and Cirucci (bottom).

The Privaron Espada (十刃落ち(プリバロン・エスパーダ), Puribaron Esupāda, Japanese for "lacking ten blades," Spanish for "deprived sword") were once Espada, though after Aizen acquired the Hōgyoku they were demoted in favor of his own artificially-created arrancar.

Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio

 • Voiced by: Kōji Ishii

Dordonii Alessandro Del Socacchio (ドルドーニ・アレッサンドロ・デル・ソカッチオ, Dorudōni Aressandoro Deru Sokacchio) is more goofy when compared to other Espada, being similar to Don Kanonji. Dordonii's zanpakutō, Giralda (暴風男爵(ヒラルダ), Hiraruda, referring to Giralda, Japanese for "storm baron"), is released with the command "whirl" (旋れ, maware).

Cirucci Thunderwitch

 • Voiced by: Hōko Kuwashima

Cirucci Thunderwitch (チルッチ・サンダーウィッチ, Chiruchi Sandāwicchi) has an unusual sense of style; her outfit consists of a frilly dress, large poofy sleeves that cut off at her shoulder, short purple-colored hair, teardrop markings on each cheek, and knee-high boots. Cirucci's zanpakutō, Golondrina (車輪鉄燕(ゴロンドリーナ), Gorondorīna, Spanish for "swallow", Japanese for "wheeled steel swallow"), takes the form of a whip with a large, spinning, Yo-Yo like disk looped into it. When released with the command "rip off" (掻っ切れ, kakkire), Cirucci sprouts large wings with ten moon-shaped blades in place of feathers.

Gantenbainne Mosqueda

 • Voiced by: Masato Funaki

Gantenbainne Mosqueda (ガンテンバイン・モスケーダ, Gantenbain Mosukēda) has an afro-style haircut with thick sideburns and a goatee. Gantenbainne's zanpakutō, Dragra (龍拳(ドラグラ), Doragura, Japanese for "dragon fist"), takes the form of a pair of two-pronged punching daggers attached to Gantenbainne's wrists by hinges.

Other

The following are those arrancar that have never received a position as an Espada. Most are Números (数字持ち(ヌメロス), Numerosu, Japanese for "number holders," Spanish for "numbers"), foot soldiers sent to do Aizen's bidding or to fight alongside the Espada. Others are Fracción (従属官(フラシオン), Furashion, Japanese for "subordinate officers," Spanish for "fraction"), subordinates that directly serve a specific Espada.

Grand Fisher

 • Voiced by: Chafūrin (Japanese); Paul St. Peter (English)

Grand Fisher (グランドフィッシャー, Gurando Fisshā) is, when first introduced, a hollow that has evaded the Soul Reapers for over fifty years.

Rudobōn

 • Voiced by: Taro Yamaguchi

Rudobōn (ルドボーン) is the leader of the Exequias (葬討部隊(エクセキアス), Ekusekiasu, Japanese for "funerary attacking force," Spanish for "funeral rites"), a group responsible for dealing with rebels and intruders in Las Noches.

Shawlong Qufang

From left to right: Edorad, Nakim (top), Ilforte (bottom), Shawlong, and D-Roy.
 • Voiced by: Hideyuki Tanaka

Shawlong Qufang (シャウロン・クーファン, Shauron Kūfan) is an intellectual, or at least an analyst, able to confidently state the nature of his opponent's powers. Shawlong's zanpakutō, Tijereta (五鋏蟲(ティヘレタ), Tihereta, Spanish for "earwig," Japanese for "five-pincered insect"), is released with the command "snip" (裁て, tate). When released, Shawlong grows armor covering his arms and upper chest with his hands transforming into long claws, his mask extends down to cover the left side of his face and his queue becomes a tail with claws.

Edorad Leones

 • Voiced by: Taiten Kusunoki

Edorad Leones (エドラド・リオネス, Edorado Rionesu) has a high amount of pride as an arrancar, as he is ashamed to draw his zanpakutō against an enemy. Edorad's zanpakutō, Volcánica (火山獣(ボルカニカ), Borukanika, Spanish for "volcanic," Japanese for "volcanic beast"), is released with the command "erupt" (熾きろ, okiro). When Volcanica is released, his mask disappears and his arms are covered in what looks like volcanic rock, becoming much longer and wider in the process. An exhaust spout is located on each shoulder. He is able to shoot fire from his fists in this form.

Ilfort Grantz

 • Voiced by: Kōichi Tōchika

Ilfort Grantz (イールフォルト・グランツ, Īruforuto Gurantsu) is the sarcastic, effeminate older brother of Szayel Aporro Grantz. Ilforte's zanpakutō, Del Toro (蒼角王子(デルトロ), Derutoro, Spanish for "of the bull," Japanese for "pale-horned prince"), is released with the command "skewer" (突き砕け, tsukikudake). When Del Toro is released, Ilfort's upper body enlarges and is covered in bull-like armor, while his mask seems to completely regenerate, giving him horns. In this form, he walks on four legs and uses his horns to skewer opponents.

D-Roy

 • Voiced by: Takashi Kondō

D-Roy (ディ・ロイ, Di Roi) is the weakest of his group of arrancar.

Nakim

 • Voiced by: Taketora

Nakim (ナキーム, Nakīmu) is a fat, silent arrancar, his only significant speech being an answer to a question shortly before his death.

Wonderweiss Margera

 • Voiced by: Hisayoshi Suganuma

Wonderweiss Margera (ワンダーワイス・マルジェラ, Wandāwaisu Marujera) is an Espada-level arrancar.[44] Wonderweiss is small, thin, and somewhat child-like. He follows Tōsen everywhere when possible and is hostile to what he perceives as Tōsen's enemies[45] The name and released state of Wonderweiss's zanpakutō have not been revealed.

Pesche Guatiche

 • Voiced by: Takehito Koyasu

Pesche Guatiche (ペッシェ・ガティーシェ, Pesshe Gatīshe) is a fairly harmless, humanoid arrancar whose body is covered in a sort of light armor, complete with a mask resembling an insectoid head with a large pair of mandibles. His hollow hole is positioned near his stomach. He was once Nel Tu's Fracción,[46] but after his mask fragment was forcefully removed by Nnoitra Jiruga and Nel received amnesia, he accompanied her around Hueco Mundo to keep her safe. Years later, when Nel accompanies a group of humans, Pesche follows her into Las Noches. He starts following Uryū Ishida, having mistaken him for Ichigo Kurosaki, which upsets him because Uryū's appearance leads him to believe that he is the weakest of the group. Pesche possesses an ability he calls "Infinite Slick" (無限の滑走(インフィナイト・スリック), Infinaito Surikku),[47] in which he sprays his saliva at an object, severely reducing its friction. Contrary to its name, it is of limited supply, "Finite Slick" having been an uninteresting name. He carries an energy sword he calls Ultima (究極(ウルティマ), Urutima, Spanish for "final," Japanese for "ultimate") inside his loincloth, but it is unclear if it is his zanpakutō.

Dondochakka Bilstin

 • Voiced by: Daisuke Gōri

Dondochakka Bilstin (ドンドチャッカ・ビルスタン, Dondochakka Birusutan) is a large, spotted humanoid arrancar with a tiki mask and compound eyes. Despite his menacing appearance, he is prone to tear-filled outbursts at the slightest provocation, usually when he's worried about something. He frequently inserts the phrase "don'tcha know" (ヤンス, yansu) in his speech. He was once Nel Tu's Fracción,[48] but after his mask fragment was forcefully removed by Nnoitra Jiruga and Nel received amnesia, he accompanied her around Hueco Mundo to keep her safe. Years later, when Nel accompanies a group of humans, Dondochakka follows her into Las Noches. He starts following Renji Abarai, whom he frequently irritates with his clumsiness and emotional outbursts. Dondochakka possesses numerous insect spirits within his stomach (one being Bawabawa). He can spit these spirits out at will as allies in combat.[6] In addition, he carries a kanabō inside his stomach, but it is unclear if this is his zanpakutō.

Tesla

Tesla (テスラ, Tesura) is the sole Fracción of Nnoitra Jiruga. Tesla's zanpakutō, Verruga (牙鎧士(ベルーガ), Berūga, Spanish for "wart," Japanese for "tusked armored warrior"), is released with the command "crush" (打ち伏せろ, uchifusero).

Charlotte Cuuhlhourne

Charlotte Cuuhlhourne (シャルロッテ・クールホーン, Sharurotte Kūruhōn) considers himself Barragan's best fracción. Charlotte's mannerisms and dress border on those of a stereotypical drag queen. He has long, wavy black hair and wears clothes with feminine motifs. His mask is the shape of a tiara with horns.[49] Charlotte believes beauty is derived from a person's heart and personality, leading the first part of his battle with Yumichika Ayasegawa to be little more than the two shouting insults at each other. Charlotte's zanpakutō is named Reina de Rosas (宮廷薔薇園ノ美女王(レイナ・デ・ロサス), Reina de Rosasu, Spanish for "queen of roses," Japanese for "beautiful queen of the palace rose garden"). Its release command is "sparkle" (煌めけ, kirameke). When released, he has a crown with horns, a buckler in the shape of a heart, underwear and crop-top with pads sticking out and has discs around his ankles and wrists.[50] In his released form, he gains the ability to engulf himself and his opponent in black thorns, and a special attack which is called "Rosa Blanca" (spanish for White Rose) which makes the surrounding area dark and kills the opponent in a white flower where nobody can see them. He is defeated by Yumichika, who drains his energy and spares him.[51]

Abirama Redder

Abirama Redder (アビラマ・レッダー, Abirama Reddā) is another of Barragan's fracción; he is the one sent to deal with Izuru Kira. Abirama's zanpakutō is named Águila (空戦鷲(アギラ), Agira, Spanish for "eagle," Japanese for "sky battle eagle"). Its release command is "scalp" (頂を削れ, itadaki o kezure).[52] When in released form, Abirama's head becomes similar to that of an eagle, his hands and feet become talons, and two wings appear on his back which constantly hurl large quantities of feathers at the enemy. These feathers are made of steel, allowing them to easily crush targets on which they fall, and regenerate rapidly after being tossed.[53] He has an additional ability to split his wings into two pairs for increased maneuverability, triggered by slicing along his chest tattoos with his claws. [54] Abirama's abilites prove to be a double-edged sword: his heavy wings are very susceptible to Izuru Kira's zanpakutō. Unable to move, he is beheaded by Kira.[55]

Findor Carias

Findor Carias (フィンドール・キャリアス, Findōru Kyariasu) is the thinnest of Barragan's fracción, and is sent to deal with Shūhei Hisagi. With his mask unchiseled, he fights at the level of a fifth seat.[56] Findor's zanpakutō is named Pinza Aguda (蟄刀流断(ピンサグーダ), Pinsagūda, Spanish for "sharp pincer," Japanese for "crab sword cutting current") and is released by the command "engrave the surface of the water" (水面に刻め, minamo ni kizame).

(ポウ) is the largest of Barragan's fracción, towering over even Sajin Komamura, the tallest Soul Reaper in the 13 Court Guards. It is called Calderón (巨腕鯨(カルデロン), Karuderon, Spanish for "pilot whale," Japanese for "whale arm.") and is released with the command "breathe" (気吹け, ibuke).
