Bleach (original spelling:BLEACH（ブ リ ー チ）, Burīchi ; dt. "bleach") is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Tite Kubo , which was also implemented as an anime .

In the world of Bleach there are other parallel dimensions besides the world of humans. In one of these live the Shinigami (dt. "Death Gods"), which are organized as a military-run training center. The world itself is called Soul Society (尸 魂 界（ソ ウ ル ・ ソ サ エ テ ィ）, Sōru Sosaeti , dt. " World of corpses"), in the center of which is the Seireitei ( 瀞 霊 廷 ), the training center. There the young recruits are trained as Shinigami, who are the Hollows (虚（ホ ロ ウ）, Horō , dt. "Emptiness") should keep people from robbing people of their souls. At the same time, they are supposed to bring the souls of the deceased to the Soul Society, where they will continue their lives outside the gates of the Seiretei. Seiretei is administered by the commanders of the 13 Hofgarden and the headquarters of the 46; the commander in chief of the 13 court guards is the commander of the first unit. The Hollows, meanwhile, come from a third world known as Hueco Mundo (虚 圏（ウ ェ コ ム ン ド）, Weko Mundo , German “empty sphere”). Characteristic for a hollow, no matter what shape it has ultimately assumed, is a hole somewhere in its body (mostly in its chest), which clearly distinguishes it from the rest of the characters. In addition, the shape of Hollows is often based on certain animals. In addition to the hollows, so-called arrancar (破 面（ア ラ ン カ ル）, Arankaru , dt. "Broken Mask") on: modified hollows , which get shinigami powers by breaking their hollow mask. An arrancar also gets a more human look than it had as a hollow. The hollow forces that still exist are sealed in his zanpakutō and can be released by issuing a certain command. At the release, called Resurrección (帰 刃（レ ス レ ク シ オ ン）, Resurekushion , Eng . "Returning Blade"), the shape of the Arrancar changes and resembles its original hollow shape and its spiritual power increases enormously. The Resurrección can be seen as a counterpart to the Shinigami Bankai. In addition to ordinary people there are also the so-called Quincy (滅 却 師（ク イ ン シ ー）, Kuinshī , dt. "Master of Destruction"), a people of people who are able to control spiritual particles, which was founded by the King of the Quincy, Yhwach. 1000 years before the start of the main storyline, Yhwach and his Quincy people tried to wipe out the Shinigami, but failed and instead the Quincy were exterminated, at least it seems so. Yhwach was the only Quincy who survived and, with the help of spiritual energy, created his own dimension in which the Quincy king was preparing for a revenge, which he called Vandenreich (見 え ざ る 帝国（ヴ ァ ン デ ン ラ イ ヒ）, Vandenraihi , dt. "Invisible Empire"). So that Yhwax's plan was not recognized, Yhwach created this dimension within the Seireitei, which must be imagined as a parallel dimension.

The Shinigami are souls of deceased people who have acquired supernatural powers. They are invisible to normal people and, like the Hollows, can only be perceived by people who themselves have spiritual energy and abilities. They appear to them in human form. All Shinigami carry a weapon specially tailored to them, the zanpakutō ( 斬 魄 d , dt. "Soul-headed sword") is called. Constant training with the weapon that reflects parts of their soul enables them to learn the name of their weapon, which enables them to elicit additional capabilities from their weapon. The first level of this skill is called Shikai ( 始 解 , dt. "Initial solution"). When a certain command is called out, the sword changes into a different shape that better suits the character of the Shinigami. A second form of transformation is called Bankai ( 卍 解 ). This skill can only be used by a few Shinigami, which is acquired through years of training and is actually a necessary prerequisite for being elevated to the rank of commander. In addition to handling their weapons and their special skills, the Shinigami are also able to use Kidō ( 鬼 道 , dt. "Path of the Demon"), a form of magic. There are two types of Kidō, Bakudō ( 縛 道 , dt. "Path of fetters"), and hadō ( 破 道 , dt. "Path of destruction"). Each of these types supposedly belong to 99 spells, all of which differ from one another and are used for various purposes.

Overview of the events

15-year-old student Ichigo Kurosaki has had the ability to see ghosts since childhood . One day he meets the Shinigami Rukia Kuchiki who is hunting a hollow. As she is seriously injured during the fight, she is forced to transfer her powers to Ichigo so that Ichigo can defeat the hollow in her place. Until Rukia recovers, Ichigo has to do the work of a shinigami. Rukia registers at Ichigo's school and moves into his closet. Over time, the two become friends.

Since Rukia Kuchiki has exceeded her stay in the human world, Rukia is forcibly returned to the Soul Society by her stepbrother, the commander of the 6th Division of the 13 Protection Units of the Soul Society Byakuya Kuchiki and the vice-commander of the 6th Division Renji Abarai , where everyone departed souls, including the Shinigami. Because of the transfer of her Shinigami powers to a person, which is a grave offense, she is sentenced to the annihilation of her soul. Manga

Bleach was published in Japan from August 20, 2001 to August 22, 2016 in 686 individual chapters in the weekly manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump by Shueisha- Verlag. These individual chapters were regularly summarized in anthologies, which were concluded with Volume 74.

The German offshoot of Tokyopop brought out the manga series in German from April 2006 to August 2017. Tokyopop Germany had sold over 800,000 copies of the manga by August 2017. An art book with the title Bleach: All Color But The Black was published for the manga . This was published in October 2008 by Tokyopop in Germany.

The manga appeared in Italy, France and the USA, among others.

Anime

Studio Pierrot (including Saber Rider and the Star-Sheriffs , Naruto ) produced an anime series with 366 episodes for the manga, directed by Noriyuki Abe . The series was broadcast weekly on the Japanese television station TV Tokyo from October 5, 2004 to March 27, 2012 , with the days of the week changing in the meantime. It last ran every Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. Japanese time. Studio Pierrot also wrote the two 30-minute Bleach - OVA episodes Memories in the Rain and The Sealed Sword Frenzy .

Panini licensed the anime for Germany in March 2008. Panini commissioned SPV to distribute the series. In 2009, SPV released five DVDs at monthly intervals that dubbed the first 20 episodes of the anime and contained them in the original sound. After the insolvency of SPV, Panini commissioned the distributor Nipponart to distribute the DVDs. They only used the DVDs that had been released so far. Episodes 21 to 53 had already been dubbed by Panini, but Panini saw a TV evaluation (up to episode 52) but no longer a DVD evaluation. In early 2017 it became known that Kazé Germany had licensed the series. So far, 131 episodes have been confirmed. Since July 2017, 63 episodes have been released on 3 DVD boxes. DVD boxes 4 to 6 are planned for February 2018.

From July 19, 2009, the German branch of Animax broadcast episodes 1 to 52 as a German TV premiere. It aired two episodes a week. Since October 27, 2017, the station ProSieben Maxx Bleach has been broadcasting as part of its Anime Night. This is wrongly advertised by ProSieben Maxx as a German TV premiere, which is factually wrong, as episodes 1 to 52 were already running on the German Animax offshoot on German pay TV. Thus, episodes 1 to 52 are in fact only German free TV premieres and not German TV premieres. Only the broadcast from episode 53 would be a German TV premiere.

The Weekly Shonen Jump announced in March 2020 that the anime would continue. The "Quincy Blood War" arc of the manga is to be adapted. The one-shot manga Burn the Witch should also be adapted in autumn 2020.

Anime films

On December 16, 2006, the movie Bleach: Memories of Nobody was released in Japan . The film was due to be shown in American cinemas in June 2008.

The first Bleach film was released on September 24, 2010 by Kazé Germany in German-speaking countries. All of the German voice actors in the series were adopted for their roles in the film. On June 24, 2011, the film was released under the title Bleach Movie 1 - Memories of Nobody by Kazé on Blu-ray Disc .

On December 22, 2007, the second film Gekijōban Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion - Mō Hitotsu no Hyōrinmaru ( 劇場版 BLEACH The DiamondDust Rebellion も う 一 つ の 氷輪 丸 ) in Japanese cinemas.

Kazé Germany released the second Bleach film on August 26, 2011 in German-speaking countries simultaneously on DVD and Blu-ray Disc under the name Bleach Movie 2 - The DiamondDust Rebellion .

On December 13, 2008, the third feature film was released in Japanese cinemas. The title is Gekijōban Bleach: Fade to Black - Kimi no Na o Yobu .

On December 4, 2010, the fourth film with the title Gekijōban Bleach: Jigoku-hen (Chapter of Hell) came in Japanese cinemas.

The German synchronization of episodes 1 to 53 was still commissioned by Panini. Panini commissioned the synchronization studio G&G Studios at the time .

Since episode 54, the German dubbing has been done on behalf of Kazé Germany. Kazé was able to win almost all of the old cast members for the dubbing.

Live action movie

The real film Bleach was released in Japanese cinemas on July 20, 2018 . Sota Fukushi played the leading role of Ichigo Kurosaki. Shinsuke Sato directed it.

musical

Musicals were performed, of which there are now five. The musicals are directed by Takuya Hiramitsu and the script was written by Naoshi Okumura. The music was written by Shoichi Tama and is not the same as the anime. The premiere of the first musical, Rock Musical BLEACH, was on August 17, 2005 in the Zero Tokyo Center in Shinjuku . Several video games have been developed based on the manga. Sony Computer Entertainment developed nine games, four for PlayStation 2 and five for PlayStation Portable . Sega released a total of six games for various Nintendo consoles . Of these, Bleach - Shattered Blade for the Nintendo Wii and Sega Bleach - The Blade of Fate , Bleach - Dark Souls and a strategy-related game The 3rd Phantom appeared for the Nintendo DS in Germany. Bleach: Soul Ignition for the PlayStation 3 followed on June 23, 2011, and was also released in Europe on September 16, 2011 under the title Bleach: Soul Resurrección .

Effects on other media

The character Orihime is partly known not only to the fans of the series, since she became the leading actress in an Internet flash cartoon " Loituma Girl " that spreads like a virus . The cartoon consists of a short, repetitive animation in which Orihime swings a leek stick around to which the interlude of the Ievan Polkka is played continuously in an endless loop . As a result, Loituma's Ievan Polkka achieved a certain cult status and sales of the album were greatly boosted.

Awards

Tite Kubo was awarded the 50th Shogakukan Manga Prize in the Shōnen category for Bleach in 2004 .
