action

Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki are Shinigami , warriors with the power to purify the souls of the deceased and to promote them to the spirit world - the Soul Society - and to fight against hollows - lost souls who attack both spirits and humans. After Kurosaki and Kuchiki defeat a hollow in a local park, unidentified, ghost-like souls appear, who are defeated by the mysterious Shinigami Senna. Ichigo and Rukia confront the mysterious Shinigami, but she refuses to answer her questions and leaves the scene of the fight against the unknown beings. While Rukia returns to the Soul Society to investigate, Ichigo remains in the human world and pursues Senna. He finds out that, unlike the other Shinigami, Senna has memories of her previous life, which Kisuke describes as atypical.

While pursuing Senna, Ichigo encounters emissaries from the Soul Society who have come into the human world to investigate mysterious reflections of the earth seen in the Soul Society. They find out that the spirit-like beings are so-called blanks , souls that have been lost in the space between the world of the living and the soul society and whose collected memories have produced a being, a Shinenju. In the intermediate world, the blanks form what is known as a valley of screams , which is known as a natural phenomenon because it usually disintegrates on its own after a short time. However, this formed valley of screams threatens to collide with the world of the living and soul society. The Shinigami in the Soul Society conclude that someone is related to usurping the Shinenju and they decide to look for the Shinenju separately.

In the world of the living, Senna is attacked by an unknown group in the cemetery, but they are routed by Ichigo. Senna looked there for her family's grave. When Senna and Ichigo bring two lost souls together the following day, the admirals of the Soul Society appear and explain that Senna is the Shinenju and ask Ichigo to hand Senna over to her. Ichigo refuses the surrender that he sees in her a living person. At this moment, the unknown group from the previous evening, who reveal themselves as Dark One , appear and capture Senna. Your goal is to take revenge on the Soul Society, as they were banished by the Soul Society to the Valley of Screams a hundred years ago. The Dark Ones bring Senna to the Valley of Screams and use her as a lure to collapse the valley with the help of the blanks. This would lead to a collision between the world of the living and the soul society and thus their destruction.

Rukia returns to the Soul Society to ask for help, but the Chief Admiral - who wants to destroy the Valley of Screams beforehand - refuses to initiate a rescue mission, as only one hour remains until the interdimensional valley collapses. Ichigo, who has meanwhile made his way to the Valley of Screams to free Senna, fails with his attempt against the large collection of blanks and the dark ones present, but is saved by the arriving Shinigami. In the meantime, the Chief Admiral of the Soul Society orders the Kidō cannon to be charged to delay the collapse of the Valley of Screams and buy time for the Shinigami in combat. They manage to quickly defeat the Dark Ones while Ichigo defeats their leader Ganryū. Together with the freed Senna, the Shinigami manage to escape from the intermediate dimension. Nevertheless, the collapse of the intermediate world continues, so that Senna decides to sacrifice herself and to bring both worlds back to their original positions. Senna, weakened from her efforts to halt the collapse of the Valley of Screams, asks Ichigo to take her to her family grave so she can see her tombstone - a memory of a previous life of a Blank. Ichigo tells her a lie that her name is on the grave. Believing him, she shows satisfaction that she had previous life before she faded. Rukia explains to Ichigo that once the power of the blanks is gone, no one will remember Senna.

After the credits, Ichigo is seen walking along a bridge when a red hair band that he gave Senna flies towards him. At the same moment, a girl who looks like Senna walks past him. Happy he keeps memories of her alive.

reception

Bradley Meek from THEM Anime Reviews initially expected not to like the film, but in retrospect he was quite taken with Bleach: Memories of Nobody . While he criticized some of the early scenes as confusing and incoherent, he described the character Senna as a cute character. He wrote that the film was made entirely to please fans of the manga and anime series, which it should achieve. Carl Kimlinger of the Anime News Network agreed with Meek, writing that the film was made for fans of the series and will confuse newcomers. He wrote in his review that the film works according to the basic formula of theatrical adaptations for lengthy Shōnen series and tries to cram too much action in such a short time. Still, he liked the film. Carlo Santos, also a critic on Anime News Network , described Bleach: Memories of Nobody as an extended filler episode in which new and interchangeable characters were added. However, the film is also a compilation of all shikai, bankai and other fighting techniques that have made the anime series so dynamic. Beth Accomando from KPBS praised the artistic content of the film and the complex mix of themes and idealisms presented in the plot. According to Accomando, the concept of the blanks conveys a deep spiritual sadness that gives the film, which is known as a supernatural action thriller, an undreamt-of depth. Chris Beveridge from Mania.com wrote that the movie lived up to his expectations with high production costs, a solid script and nice characters. However, he described the film's lack of relevance to the main series and the lack of character growth as the film's weakness. The German magazine Animania calls the film not only an “absolute must” for Bleach fans, but also suitable for newcomers, as it tells a story that is independent of the series. The booklet included with the DVD offers the necessary prior knowledge for beginners. The German dubbed version with the proven voices from the television series is praised.

In the Internet Movie Database , Bleach: Memories of Nobody received a score of 7.3 out of ten based on just over 3,000 reviews.

Trivia
