History
History
La Salle Institute was founded in 1850 and was originally located in downtown Troy. The school was first charted by the New York State Board of Regents in 1891. In the 1960s a modern facility was constructed on Williams Road near the boundary between the City of Troy and the Town of North Greenbush. The new campus opened in September of 1964. A substantial renovation and expansion was completed in 2001. La Salle Institute is located adjacent to the Hudson Valley Community College campus. La Salle Institute has twice been recognized by the United States Department of Education as a School of Educational Excellence. La Salle Institute is recognized by the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools.

Formed in the late eighties by Wales-born guitarist Haggis (a.k.a. Stephen Harris), who had been a touring bassist for The Cult and member of Zodiac Mindwarp, the Four Horsemen were based out of Hollywood, California, and featured Frank Starr on vocals.
Military
La Salle's cadet battalion was first formed in 1891. Presently, all high school students at La Salle are enrolled in the Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) Program. The goal of the program at the Institute is not to prepare students to be soldiers nor facilitate recruitment, but to motivate the youths to be better citizens. . The JROTC program at La Salle has been distinguished as an "Honor Unit with Distinction" by the United States Department of the Army. This is the highest merit ranking a school can be given. It means that La Salle Institute scored above a 95 on the assessment by the Department of the Army that occurs every 3 years.

Their first release was a self titled four track EP in 1989, which generated enough interest to get them a full album record contract with Def American.

The second album, Nobody Said it Was Easy was produced by Rick Rubin, and was by far their most popular. The album produced the title track as a single and the hit "Rockin' is Ma Business.". However, the band was tied up in legal disputes with Rubin and lead singer Frank Starr also spent some time in jail on a drugs charge, the combination of which put their album on hold for nearly two years. By the time it was finally released in 1991, the music scene was just about to change with the rise of Grunge which in turn led to a rapid downturn in many of the existing hard rock acts. Just as they were getting wider recognition, their market disappeared. Business problems, another stint in jail by Frank Starr and internal fights followed, which prompted Haggis to leave the band.
La Salle Institute competes in men's interscholastic baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, bowling, ice hockey, lacrosse, football, wrestling, soccer, tennis and track (indoor & outdoor). La Salle Institute also has an Alpine ski team and a ski/snowboard Club.

In 1994, the band reconciled their differences and started to put together a third release with Pharaoh replacing Ben on bass. But the first of two tragedies struck on September 27th 1994 when original drummer Dimwit (Ken Montgomery) died from a drug overdose. The band continued with creating the album, dedicating it to Dimwit and including the poignant ballad 'Song for Absent Friends' which is clearly influenced by his death. Dimwit's brother Chuck Biscuits took over on drums.
The LSI varsity basketball team plays in the Big 10 in Class AA. The La Salle Institute 2008 varsity football Team is a favored team to win the Big 10 this season. The head coach is Mr. Al Rapp, his assistants are Gary Lauver, Tim Maloney and Gerald Washington. In 2007 Marquis Terrell broke the La Salle record for most rushing yards in a season.

Then in November 1995, lead singer Frank Starr was hit by a drunk driver while driving his motorcycle down Sunset Strip and was left in a coma suffering from severe head injuries. The band soldiered on, releasing the third album Gettin Pretty Good...At Barely Gettin' By... in 1996 on the Magnetic Air label and embarking on a tour with Ron Young of Little Caesar on vocals, hoping that Starr would come out of the coma, but he eventually died on June 18, 1999, and the band broke up.
The La Salle Institute 2007-2008 varsity indoor track team finished 2nd (of 7) at the Big 10 Championships. First place finishes included David Nicol in the 1,000M, and Denis Hurley in the 3,200M. Other top finishers included Denis Hurley (2nd) in the 1,600M, David Nicol (3rd) in the 1,600M, James Doran (3rd) in the 3,200M, Chris Legare (2nd) in the 55H, Ethan Fleming (2nd) in the High Jump, Kyle Styczynski (2nd) in the Long Jump and Andrew Barada (2nd) in the Shot Put. On Saturday March 10, 2008 the LSI 4x1600m (4xmile) relay team of David Nicol, James Doran, Denis Hurley and Joe Kennedy placed 8th at the National Scholastic Indoor Championships at the New Balance Track and Field Center in New York City. They set a new school record in the event.

In 2007, Haggis and Dave Lizmi assembled as much archive footage of the band as they could, and released a 2 disc retrospective, Left for Dead. Disc one is a DVD featuring the promo videos from Nobody said it was Easy, plus rare interview, live performance and behind the scenes footage. Disc two is a live CD.
The La Salle Institute 2008 varsity baseball team was ranked #1 in the state during their 2008 season. They made it to the state semi-finals where they lost to eventual state champions the Mamaroneck Tigers 7-5 ending their season 27-1.

The Four Horsemen

The Four Horsemen were an American hard rock band that had brief popularity in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Their style was blues influenced heavy rock and their fame was both fleeting and full of tragedy.

History

Formed in the late eighties by Wales-born guitarist Haggis (a.k.a. Stephen Harris), who had been a touring bassist for The Cult and member of Zodiac Mindwarp, the Four Horsemen were based out of Hollywood, California, and featured Frank Starr on vocals.
