Ui-te-Rangiora

Ui-te-Rangiora is a male legendary figure from Polynesia who is said to have lived around the year 650 . Ui-te-Rangiora is said to have undertaken several voyages of discovery in the Pacific , including Hawaii and the Society Islands . It is also reported that he was the first seafarer to discover sub-Antarctic islands and the southern polar sea , which he thought were "covered in white flakes". The legend of Ui-te-Rangiora was originally based on oral tradition from the inhabitants of the island of Rarotonga .
