Ágnes Bánfai (born June 8, 1947 in Budapest ; † August 20, 2020 in Kismaros) was a Hungarian gymnast .

Career

Bánfai, who started for the Budapesti Spartacus SC , made her international debut at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City . After a 14th place in the overall individual ranking, she reached fifth overall with the team. Two years later she started at the World Gymnastics Championships in 1970 in Ljubljana , Yugoslavia , where she and the team reached sixth of eight places in the team ranking. In the all-around competition she finished in a shared 27th place. At the 1974 World Gymnastics Championships in Varna , she and Mónika Császár , Krisztina Medveczky , Monika Nagy , Márta Egervári and Zsuzsa Matulai won the bronze medal in the team standings behind the teams from the Soviet Union and the GDR. In the all-around competition she finished 31st, only one place in the back field.

After the end of her active sports career, Bánfai worked as a trainer at the Baross Imre Artistaképző Szakközépiskola Art School in Budapest .

Bánfai was married to the Hungarian saber fencer Tibor Pézsa .
