Ángel Manrique

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ángel Manrique O.Cist. (* February 28, 1577 in Burgos ; † February 28, 1649 in Badajoz ) was a Cistercian monk , historian and bishop .

He worked in annalistic form to describe the history of the Cistercian order from the "founding year" 1098 through all times to the 17th century, sometimes decade after decade. This schematic representation of the history of the order was common in the early modern period. Manrique's work can be compared with the Cistercian religious researchers of his time ( Chrysostomus Henriquez , Karl de Visch and Gaspar Jongelinus ).

From 1645 to 1649 he was Bishop of Badajoz; prior to that, a scientific activity at the Colegio de San Bernardo and the cathedral school in Salamanca is documented.
