Ángel Valbuena Briones

Ángel Valbuena Briones (born January 11, 1928 in Madrid , † February 5, 2014 in Hockessin ) was an American Romanist and Hispanic student of Spanish origin.

Life

Ángel Julián Valbuena, son of Ángel Valbuena Prat , studied at the University of Murcia (graduated in 1949) and received his doctorate in 1952 from the Complutense University of Madrid . He was a lecturer at Oxford University from 1953 to 1955 , then taught in Madrid, went to the University of Wisconsin as a visiting lecturer in 1956 and was Assistant Professor at Yale University from 1958 to 1960 .

Valbuena was Elias Ahuja Professor of Spanish Literature at the University of Delaware from 1960 to 1999 . In 1963, he acquired US citizenship in Wilmington, Delaware . He published under the name Ángel Valbuena Briones.

Valbuena was known as a connoisseur and editor of the works of Calderón de la Barca .
