Árpád Szendy
Árpád Szendy [ ˈaːrpaːd ˈsɛndi ] (born August 11, 1863 in Szarvas , † September 10, 1922 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian pianist , composer and music teacher .
Szendy (the family name was originally Golnhofer ) was the son of a high school teacher, among others, pupil of Henri Gobbi , Franz Liszt and Hans Koessler at the Budapest Music Academy . From 1888 he worked there as a piano teacher and was active as a full professor from 1890 to 1911. After the fall of the Hungarian Soviet Republic , he was appointed director of the National Conservatory at the beginning of 1920, but resigned from this office a year later for health reasons.
He composed two orchestral pieces, a piano concerto , a concert fantasy for piano and orchestra, the opera "Maria", two string quartets , piano pieces and songs . His edition of Czerny 's "School of Fluency" became part of the standard pedagogical literature in Hungary.
