history

The church was built after 1086 by Ladislaus I Herman in the early Romanesque style as a votive for the birth of the heir to the throne Boleslaus III. Wrymouth donated. Since Ladislaus I had asked Saint Aegidius for an heir to the throne through gifts to the monastery of Saint-Gilles , the church was named after him. It is one of the oldest preserved churches in Krakow. The church was expanded around 1300 in the brick Gothic style and first handed over to the Benedictines and later to the Dominicans . The interior of the church was baroque in the 17th century in the Baroque style . The church serves, among other things, the English-speaking Catholic community in Krakow.
