Command structure
The command structure of the army is organized in three armies - headquarters in Cairo (General Staff and 1st Army), Ismailia (2nd Army) and Suez (3rd Army).
Subordinate to them are a total of four tank divisions , seven mechanized infantry divisions , one infantry division , three airborne brigades and fourteen artillery brigades .
equipment
The army is equipped with a large number of battle tanks for conventional land warfare in the desert. However, many weapon systems, especially those that were still supplied by the USSR , are considered obsolete. The army has been modernizing its equipment with more modern US weapon systems for decades .
The stock of battle tanks consists of 1130 tanks of the modern US type M1 Abrams , 1716 tanks of the M60 type , 34 T-80 tanks , including 20 T-80U and 14 T-80UK, 500 T-62 , 340 T-55 and 425 Ramses II, a combat value upgrade of the T-55 (as of 2012).
Furthermore the army over 412 reconnaissance aircraft, 390 armored personnel carriers (of which stored 220) and 3,560 armored personnel carriers (of which stored 500) and 4,468 pieces of artillery .
Egypt also has short-range missiles ( R-17 , Hwasong-6 ) with a range of 550 km.
