Ethiopian Democratic League

The Ethiopian Democratic League ( Amharic የኢትዮጵያ ዴሞክራሲያዊ ሊግ , transcribed YeItyopya Démokrasiawi Lig ; English Ethiopian Democratic League , abbreviation EDL ) is an opposition political party in Ethiopia .

During the national elections to the Ethiopian legislative parliament , the general elections in Ethiopia on May 15, 2005 , the party was one of the member parties within the electoral alliance alongside the United Ethiopian Democratic Party - Medhin Party and the party Rainbow Ethiopia: Movement for Democracy and Social Justice the coalition for unity and democracy , which emerged as the strongest opposition alliance together with a total of 109 of the 527 parliamentary seats in the House of Representatives . Of these 109 seats, the Ethiopian Democratic League won a total of 2 seats, one of which was given to a woman and one to a man.

At the end of September 2005, the Coalition for Unity and Democracy announced that it would be merging into a single party, the Unity for Democracy and Justice .
