The Çatalan Dam ( Turkish Çatalan Barajı ) is located on the Seyhan 30 km north of the provincial capital Adana in the southern Turkish province of the same name .
The Çatalan dam was built on behalf of the state water authority DSİ in the years 1982–1997 as an earth embankment dam . The dam is used to generate energy , regulate runoff , supply drinking water and provide irrigation . The dam is 70 m high and has a volume of 14.5 million m³. The associated reservoir has a water surface of 69.25 km² and a storage volume of 1629 million m³. The dam is used to irrigate an area of 1870 hectares. The Çatalan dam's hydropower plant has an installed capacity of 169 megawatts . The standard work capacity is 596 GWh per year. Downstream is the Seyhan dam , upstream the Menteş barrage .
