The Çelenk ( German : Tschelenk ) was an award that was donated by the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire .
The award consisted of a stylized, centrally arranged flower with leaves and buds and 13 rays directed upwards. The Çelenk was worn on the headgear, in the Ottoman Empire this was a turban . The British Admiral Horatio Nelson received a Çelenk from Sultan Selim III for his victory against the French fleet in the sea battle at Abukir . .
