Edouard Legille

Édouard Legille (* 1926 ; † January 28, 2015 in Luxembourg ) was a Luxembourgish engineer , inventor and manager .

Life

Legille initially worked and learned in his father's parents' agricultural machinery company in Bürmeringen . In 1971 Legille became general director of the plant manufacturer Paul Wurth, founded in 1870. In the 1970s and 1980s, he pushed through the internationalization of the company, which until then had focused on the Luxembourg steel market. From 1986 to 1995 he chaired the board of directors . In the same year he was made honorary president of the company. Legille was a member of the Rotary Club of Luxembourg.

Act

In the 1970s he developed the bell-less top hatch seal - a process that significantly changed blast furnace technology. After a test run in a test facility in Hollerich (Luxembourg) in autumn 1971, the process was first used commercially in the August Thyssen-Hütte in Duisburg . The sketches for the invention were allegedly made in 1970 out of boredom during a rainy holiday in Spain. The patent was followed by over 40 other patents in the field of steel production and machining.
