Émery Lavigne

Horace-Émery Lavigne (born January 27, 1859 in Montreal , † July 2, 1902 there ) was a Canadian pianist , organist and music teacher .

The younger brothers of Ernest and Arthur Lavigne were pupils of Romain-Octave Pelletier . After a trip to Paris (1877) he was organist at St John's Church in Oswego / New York until 1883 .

After his return to Montreal he worked as a concert pianist and piano accompanist. In 1884 he performed Saint-Saëns ' Rhapsodie d'Auvergne with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra . He has also appeared with the Montreal Philharmonic Society and the Mendelssohn Choir of Montreal, as well as accompanying the violinists Camilla Urso , Sam Franko and Ovide Musin , the cellists Anton Hekking , Jean Gérardy and Joseph Hollman and the singer Sir Charles Santley .

In 1896 he founded the Haydn Trio with Joseph-Jean Goulet and Jean-Baptiste Dubois . From 1892 to 1893 and from 1900 to 1901 he was President of the Académie de musique du Québec . He was awarded the Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the Republic of France . His Gavotte Les Ondes for piano appeared in print in 1887.
