Émile Auguste Léon Hourst

Émile Auguste Léon Hourst (* 1864 in Marseille ; † 1940 in Paris ) was a French naval officer and explorer .

Life and accomplishments

Émile Auguste Léon Hourst was under the command of General Louis Archinard in French Sudan . He led the Hourst Mission , a hydrographic expedition on the Niger River from 1895 to 1896 . The result of this mission was, among other things, a hydrographic map of the river from Timbuktu to Bussa . From 1901 to 1902 Hourst, also in French service, explored the Yangtze River between Yichang and Yibin . This expedition is known as the Second Mission Hourst .
