Général Archinard spent his twilight years in Villiers-le-Bel.

The President of the Republic, Paul Doumer , was visiting a book fair in Paris when he was assassinated by Russian émigré Pavel Gorgulov . After he was hit by several bullets, he was taken to the Hôpital Beaujon in Clichy, where he died on the night of May 7, 1932.
