Émile Grosshans
Émile Grosshans (born August 16, 1938 in Stiring-Wendel ; † July 28, 2016 ) was a French football player .
Career
The 170 centimeter tall player started playing football in his hometown at CS Stiring-Wendel . He remained loyal to this for many years, was mostly used on the offensive and aroused the interest of several professional clubs. Ultimately, it was a first division team with Stade Rennes that prevailed and signed him in 1961. On August 20, 1961, the then 23-year-old ran up against the Stade Français for the first time in the top French division. In the following months he was intended as a striker , but could not assert himself in this way and therefore made a change of position to the defensive player .
In the defense chain consisting of three professionals, he became a regular player, with Yves Boutet at his side in the unofficial leadership role in the defense. The defensive was relatively weak, however, and after it had been enough for a midfield position in 1963, relegation was barely avoided in the following year. In 1964, the league rival RC Strasbourg made him an offer that met with his personal approval. The club, however, refused to release, Grosshans lost his good reputation with the club's management and had to stay in Rennes during the 1964/65 season without being on the pitch again. Accordingly, he was only a spectator and not involved in the success when the team won the national cup competition in 1965. In the summer of the same year he was able to leave the club after 84 first division games with four goals.
He then went to AS Strasbourg , which, unlike city rivals RC, only competed in the amateur field. At the same time, he started working as a manager at adidas and worked for the company for more than a decade before opening his own wholesale sportswear business in 1977.
