Éric Geoffroy (born 1956 in Belfort ) is a French religious scholar and Islamic scholar who specializes in Sufism . He is Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Strasbourg . He is a member of the Alawiya Sufi brotherhood of Ahmad al-Alawi (1874-1934), which emerged from the Darqawiyya ( Shadhiliyya ).

Standing in the tradition of early French Sufi studies - in particular with Ivan Aguéli and René Guénon in the 19th and 20th centuries, two French initiated members of Sufism with a typically French cultural identity - Geoffroy examines the numerous influences of Sufism on Western and Eastern Europe European cultural identity.

In particular, he studied the initiation path of the Shadhiliyya , a spiritual school that also became known in the West through René Guénon, among others. He also worked on the emir and freedom fighter Abd el-Kader (1808–1883) and the harmony he wanted to create between spirituality and modernity.
