Eric Pichon

Éric Pichon (born March 30, 1966 in Saint-Chamond , France , † August 31, 2012 ) was a French cyclist .

Athletic career

Pichon appeared in the result lists of the French amateur road races from 1987 on. In 1988 he celebrated his first victory in a major race after his stage win at the Tour du Lyonais et des monts Pilat. His international breakthrough among amateurs came in 1989 when he won the Czechoslovak stage race Ytong Bohemia Tour. The highlight of his amateur career was the second place in the individual race of the road world championship in the same year .

With this recommendation, Pichon signed a contract as a professional rider with the French cycling team Castorama at the beginning of the 1990 cycling season . There he drove together with the winner of the Giro d'Italia 1989 Laurent Fignon . Pichon achieved his best result in his first year as a professional at the French road championships with tenth place. In races with international participation, he did best in the one-day race Chateauroux – Limoges with 13th place. He started less successfully in the races Paris – Brussels (133rd) and Paris – Tours (48th). Only at the Tour du Limousin did he achieve a podium worth mentioning in 1990 with a place in the third stage. Pichon finished the 1990 racing year with 651th place in the UCI world rankings . In 1991 only 17th place was registered in the Tour de Romandie , but in the world rankings he rose to 617th place.

In 1992 Pichon moved to the French team VC Lyon. At the French championships he reached rank 10, a podium place he reached with second place in the criterion in Saint-Chamond . After he had finished the 1992 season with 767th place in the UCI world rankings, Pichon ended his career as a professional driver.
