Ólöf Nordal

Ólöf Nordal (born December 3, 1966 in Reykjavík ; † February 8, 2017 there ) was an Icelandic politician of the Independence Party and from December 2014 to early January 2017 Iceland's Interior Minister .

Ólöf Nordal was a lawyer and also had an MBA from Reykjavík University . She has been Deputy Chairwoman of the Independence Party since 2015, having held this post from 2010 to 2013.

She was initially a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing from 2007 to 2013 . From 2007 to 2009 she represented the North-Eastern constituency , and since 2009 the Reykjavík-South constituency . On December 4, 2014, she was appointed Minister of the Interior in the Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson cabinet, succeeding the resigned Hanna Birna Kristjánsdóttir . She was re-elected to the Althing in the 2016 general election.

She died of cancer at the age of 50.

Ólöf Nordal's name was found in the Panama Papers .
