Ólafur Ísleifsson

Ólafur Ísleifsson (born February 10, 1955 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic Center Party politician who belonged to the Flokkur fólksins party until the end of November 2018 .

Life

Ólafur Ísleifsson is an economist (M.Sc. from the London School of Economics and Political Science 1980, PhD from the University of Iceland in 2013). Among other things, he was managing director of the international department of the Icelandic Central Bank from 1991 to 2003 . Before his election to parliament, he was last lecturer at the University of Bifröst from 2014 to 2017 and was in charge of quality assurance at this university.

In the parliamentary elections on October 28, 2017 , Ólafur was elected as a candidate by Flokkur fólksins for the constituency of Reykjavík North in the Icelandic parliament Althing .

At the end of November 2018, he and Karl Gauti Hjaltason were expelled from their party as a result of the Klaustur affair . They initially remained in parliament as non-party and joined the Center Party at the end of February 2019.

From 2017 until the expulsion from the party in 2018, Ólafur Ísleifsson was party leader of Flokkur fólksins. He was also a member of the Budget Committee from 2017 to 2018 and was a member of the Icelandic delegation to the Nordic Council . As of June 2019, Ólafur Ísleifsson is a member of the parliamentary committee for business affairs.
