Karl Gauti Hjaltason

Karl Gauti Hjaltason (born May 31, 1959 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic Center Party politician who belonged to the Flokkur fólksins party until the end of November 2018 .

Life

Karl Gauti Hjaltason is a lawyer (Cand. Juris of the University of Iceland 1989) and was admitted to the local court in 1996 (héraðsdómslögmaður) . In 2007 he graduated from the University of Iceland's EHÍ Continuing Education Institute and the State Police School with a degree in Management . Among other things, he was police chief ( sýslumaður ) on Vestmannaeyjar from 1998 to 2014 .

In 1979 Karl Gauti founded the Karate Club Þórshamar and was its chairman until 1985, and from 1985 to 1998 chairman of the Icelandic Karate Association. He is also a chess player and was on the board of the Icelandic Chess Federation from 2006 to 2008. He is also the founder and first chairman (2012–2014) of the Astronomical Society of Vestmannaeyjar.

In the parliamentary election on October 28, 2017 , Karl Gauti was elected as a candidate by Flokkur fólksins for the southern constituency in the Icelandic parliament Althing . At the end of November 2018, he and Ólafur Ísleifsson were expelled from their party as a result of the Klaustur affair . They initially remained in parliament as non-party and joined the Center Party at the end of February 2019.

As of March 2019, Karl Gauti Hjaltason is a member of the parliamentary committee for the environment and communication.
