The series 1064 is an electric shunting locomotive (Austrian shunting locomotive ) of the ÖBB . It is the bigger sister of the ÖBB 1063 series . It was specially procured for the tough Rollberg use in the large shunting stations in Vienna-Kledering and in Villach-Süd Gvbf .

history

The locomotives of the 1063 series were mainly used to shift the route and were not suitable for rolling hills due to their weaker starting tractive effort. Therefore the ÖBB decided to order ten six-axle pressure locomotives specially designed for this purpose from the local industry. The 1064s were procured between 1984 and 1990. With the help of these locomotives, train formation and disbandment should be accelerated. SGP Graz and BBC supplied the mechanical part, Siemens the electronic part.

In 2019 the ÖBB decided to convert the 10 built locomotives into hybrid locomotives by installing batteries for catenary-free sections. The machines will also be equipped with ETCS. With the conversion, the locomotives were given the class designation 1264.

mechanical construction

The mechanical part essentially corresponds to its little sister ÖBB 1063 , but the 1064 has six axes and is therefore a little longer. The vehicle construction is almost identical (derailment protection was also attached). The arrangement of the units in the front end has changed slightly because of the greater length: As with the 1063 series, they contain all essential electronic equipment such as traction converter, brake tower with fan, externally ventilated core transformer, smoothing chokes and other parts. All assemblies are accessible via the hinged doors on the side of the front end. The front end and driver's cab of the first eight locomotives are painted blood orange, while the frame and bogies are painted black. 1064.001 to 003 were repainted in 2004 traffic red and without warning stripes. The vehicle bodies of the last two locomotives were painted traffic red with light gray contrasting surfaces on the front - the frame is light and umbra gray.

Electric Construction

The 1064 series is a three-phase current locomotive . The roof equipment corresponds to that of the 1063 series, but a type VII single-arm pantograph was sometimes used. The main transformer, drive principle, braking system and the six traction motors correspond to the types used in the 1063 series. In addition, there is a radio remote control, which enables the wagons to be pushed down on the main rolling hill without the driver having to do anything. From 2001, all locomotives also received a Stabeg shunting coupling .
