The 1163 series is a four-axle, electric shunting locomotive ( shunting locomotive ) of the Austrian Federal Railways . It represents a further development of the 1063 series and is considered a "whisper locomotive".
history
The delivery of the 1063 series ended in autumn 1991. During its almost nine-year delivery period, semiconductor technology gained even more dominance in locomotive construction, and the progress made during this period was incorporated into the design of the successor series. In 1992 the ÖBB ordered twenty shunting locomotives of the new design, which were given the series designation 1163, from SGP (mechanical part) and ABB (electrical part).
construction
Mechanical part
The basic concept comes from the previous series 1063. The locomotive frame extends over the entire length. In contrast to the previous series, the two stems are much lower and narrower than the previous series. In between is the outwardly "arched" driver's cab, which, like the two rows 1063 and 2068, has four control panels, but has an improved all-round view. Slider platforms are attached on both sides in front of the stems. Two two-axle bogies carry the locomotive frame. The transformer is located under the driver's cab, the traction motors are in the bogies. The traction and braking force is transmitted on the deep pivot pin. The colors traffic red, umbra gray and light gray were used for the paintwork.
Electrical part
The roof carries a single-arm pantograph (type VIII) with main switch and roof cables. A horizontal transformer with oil cooling feeds the current to the line converter, which consists of two four-quadrant converters in GTO technology connected in parallel on the output side . The DC voltage intermediate circuit is 2500 V, the resonance frequency of the suction circuit 33.3 Hz. The drive inverter consists of three identical GTO phase modules that are connected in parallel to the intermediate circuit and each supply one phase for the traction motors. The four motors and the drive concept correspond to the 1063 series, as does the brake system, which also has a recuperation brake. The locomotives also have Sifa and Indusi .
commitment
The 1163 series locomotives are divided between the Salzburg Hbf and Villach Hbf locations . They are used between the Salzkammergut and the Pinzgau as well as in the Villach area and in Upper Carinthia in shunting services and light goods transport.
